I agree, it's a good deal, but I still kinda feel it should be priced a bit lower. For $50 less, you get the comparable XCM-50, and only $50 more gets you the XDM-100. It's only a great deal if XLR capability is important to you. (It is to me, bit I'll still wait for a sale or price drop.)
@DarkCornerStudios
@DarkCornerStudios Жыл бұрын
I would say for people that want the dual outs, that $50 does make sense. And you are right, the XCM50 is a great option too, though it is a condenser. That said, I love the sound of it.

I was afraid that one side was going to be favored when it comes to the xlr/usb mics. Most other mics with the same xlr or usb connectivity seem to have favored the usb in my experience leaving the xlr just "ehh". RODE of course never disappoints as that doesn't seem to be the case here. Great video! - Antics

I hated...haaaated the original podmic. It sounds like an absolute soup can. One of my least favored podcast mics of all time. Ive edited thousands of hours of them. Just gross. To me, this version seems to sound waaay better. I wouldn't have known it was a pod mic. Also, personally, i love the black. Nice review.

I have had usb and xlr mics.... honestly, i think xlr and mixers are soooo unnecessary and, especially for the mic, in my opinion the usb connection actually sounds wayyyyyy warmer and clearer! idk why people tend to go for xlr mics with mixers! is it really that much better quality?? from my experience, they are just more work! my shure sm7b, i never really cared for it! there was always this static/hissing in the background no matter what i did! but my rode usb mini did a wayyyy better job with sound quality even though their "built in" pop filter was really not that great!
@hasantomuk
@hasantomuk Күн бұрын
I could not see any difference between the sound quality of USB-C output microphones and the sound quality of XLR microphones. In fact, USB microphones are much better in terms of portability and ease of use. I say this as someone who also does dubbing.

The price should have been $150. An additional $100 for just digital conversion is too much. Not to mention that unlike Rode NT1 5th gen, PodMic USB has just 24-bit flow. Even Rode VideoMic Go II with both analog and digital signals is often sold for cheaper than $100-the price includes both a digital converter and the mic with headphones support. $200 for the PodMic USB is just too much. Rode became greedy and packed older tech as something new. And the fact it tries to sell 24-bit flow for the price just paints the company as one out of touch. It stopped being a company that respects users and became just a hustler that tries to sell crap for high price.

Being a former disc jockey on the radio for years, I like an end-address mic. Right now, I have a Rode NT USB+ (side address) and I really, really like that you can turn on various effects such as Big Bottom using the Rode software. But, I would rather have an end-address mic like this Podmic. BUT, I cannot find a review that confirms that I can save the way I can make it sound using things like Big Bottom to the mic like I can do with the NT USB+. I hear that it can be used with the Rode Central app, but I want to hear that you can use the settings like Big Bottom and Compressor and the Aural Exciter and save it to the PodMic so that it can retain those effects even when just connected with an XLR connector.

currently have the Rhode NT1 4th gen and an Audient Evo 4 as my input. The NT1 is on loan from a studio friend that has offered to sell it to me if I want it but also said I could use it basically for as long as I want. The Audient is mine tho I have been considering either buying the NT1 from him or buying the Original Podmic and then the USB version came up. Over here the usb one is 5500 and the original is 2500 so just over double. and the NT1 4th gen is being offered to me at about 4000 (thats with the premium shock mount and an arm that works well enough for it) I am wondering if I should sell my Audient interface and go rhode podmic usb? Should I stick with the NT1? or stick with my audient and get the original podmic? Mainly I do twitch streaming. I used to do singing which the NT1 would probably be better for. But I stopped a few years ago due to some throat and lung related health issues. So now I just speak and do voice acting. I really would love to be able to A/B test between the NT1 and Podmic but I know nobody that owns one. thoughts?

Still overpriced and it's also, from the sound in the video, kind of flat, almost tinny, without any real bass element. In other words, the mic seems to lack any real depth, or warmth. That may well be KZbin's processing, how the sound was mixed to begin with, or both, but it's still off putting.

Has there been any updates to Unify in last 3 weeks? I ask because I want to buy the Rode XDM-100 but I hear a lot of negative things about unify. Thank you
@DarkCornerStudios

I have no idea...that said...what negative things are being said? Also, this thing works with UNIFY yes, but all its effects are applied through Rode Central

@@DarkCornerStudiosthanks. Say it's glitchy and tricky to set up on the PC and you must always use Unify to direct your sound whether it's your headphones, computer speakers etc. Just curious what you think is better, Unify or Steelseries Sonar software? Thanks again

What do you think between this mic and the Shure MV7X?
@hsjawanda
@hsjawanda Жыл бұрын
How would you compare this to the Rode XDM-100? Both have onboard DSP & work with Rode's software, but the PodMic USB has XLR AND USB and is $50 cheaper... Is it possible to connect via USB to the computer, engage the (say) Noise Gate, then connect via XLR and have the on-board Noise Gate still be active?

I really apreciate your reviews. Thanks for the great work. I want to replace my Blue Yeti, but I can't decide between this Podmic USB and the Shure MV7. What of these twi mics do you recommend as better USB for a person without audio knowledge like me?

Do I have to turn up the gain to +60 to 70 DB to get some sound out of this microphone hooked directly to PC? It just seems not loud enough at 52 DB... other than that I like it...
@DarkCornerStudios
@DarkCornerStudios 10 ай бұрын
Doesn't seem loud enough? Make sure your pc volume is turned up...as well as the mic input on your pc turned up. That said...you probably will need a bit more than 52db of gain. That's generally considered pretty quiet
@omegafile

@DarkCornerStudios ya some were saying 52 and one person said 70..above 55 seems ok..

@omegafile yeah...dont top out...but its OK to use the range of the preamp to get comfortable sound

@@DarkCornerStudios Well I set it at 60 db and there seems to be no difference. I'm wondering if a USBC hub will work... I did not have usbc on my pc I had to use an adapter.. but maybe I need a hub? Update.. works great if I use the rode connect software... but if it's turned off then not enough gain... but if I use the software then I can't hear my screen record lol.. still have to figure it out.

This is a very well presented review. I was originally looking at the Shure, but I'm going with this instead. I'm about to retire and I'll be producing and presenting a show for a local radio station highlighting recordings from the past, highlighting my 78 record collection with items going back to 1898.
