I just recently ordered the Videomic NTG. I am so wanting the NTG 5, but well, money. You know how that goes. Thank you for doing this video. It gave me a peace of mind knowing I can’t go wrong with the videomic on my budget. The dual comparison you did was great. Although I truly couldn’t hear a difference on my phone, I’m sure the NTG 5 was superior. But either way great review.
@PaulFeinberg2 жыл бұрын
They are very close but it just shows you that the difference between more expensive mics is very small for the price. Like the NTG price point it sounds so good. Then you just a little bit more with the NTG5 but the difference isn’t double the difference. Both sound amazing, that’s why I wanted to do this video. Thank you!

I’ve had the Videomic NTG for a bit over a year now. Love it. Use it with the USBC connection to my Mac for call centre work and for internal WEBEX calls…. use Rode Connect with it as well as that allow the virtual channels and mix minus for the incoming callers… as well as a MUTE function. I also use it with the USBC to Lightning cable for videos on the iPhone… this little mic has great sound and really is the ducks nuts for versatility.

NTG5 is an upgrade for sure. Depends on needs.
@HopeProphecy2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this info! I am looking to upgrade my audio from a Rode Lavalier GO Lapel Mic. I create talking-head KZbin videos in a fairly well-treated room and plan to upgrade to a boom mic above my head. I would like to find the best mic that I can plug straight into camera (Fuji XT3), so I don’t have to sync audio in post. I’m considering the Rode VideoMic NTG and the Sennheiser MKE 600. Which of these mics do you think would be better for my application? I have heard the MKE 600 has better audio quality (Although I would not be powering the MKE 600 via XLR), but I wonder if the difference would justify getting that over the Rode- which has a power system that I can more easily charge, is cheaper, and seems to sound great. The Rode also has a gain knob on the mic so I could avoid using the camera’s gain. My KZbin channel is called Hope Through Prophecy in case you would like to see my current setup. Thanks for any help!
@PaulFeinberg2 жыл бұрын
Alright so I am little confused….the MKE-600 is an XLR microphone. It couldn’t plug into your camera. My friend has that microphone and it sounds good. Sounds like the Rode Videomic NTG will work best for what you want. Plug it straight into your camera so you don’t have to sync audio. Also the nice thing about that mic is you can use it in studio boomed over your head with a 1/8” extension cable, and then you can use it on the go on top of your camera, and you can hook it up USB to your computer as well.
@HopeProphecy2 жыл бұрын
@@PaulFeinberg Thanks for the reply. Great points. So, the MKE-600 can be plugged straight into camera an XLR to 3.5mm adaptor. With this in mind, would the NTG still be your choice?

@@HopeProphecy I thought the MKE-600 would require phantom power to power the microphone which the camera can’t provide.

@@HopeProphecy ohhh so it has a AA battery…..hmmmmm. Well If you want to use it outside and on the go the NTG videomic would be a better option. What camera are you using? You would need good mic pre-amps since there is no volume control on the MKE-600. If your camera has decent preamps then I would say the MKE-600 is a great option and would probably give you better talking head studio quality than NTG videomic.

First of all, I have been following you for a long time, you are doing great. What would you recommend for KZbin video shooting and interior shots that keeps the sound clear and full and keeps as much noise as possible? I bought MKE600, but there is a lot of noise, I am not satisfied at all.
@PaulFeinberg10 ай бұрын
Wow, thanks so much bud! Appreciate your support. What camera are you shooting on? Lots of noise from a shotgun mic odd. They are usually very directional. My friend Originialdobo uses a MKE600 in his studio talking headshots and gets great results. If you had a Sony camera with the digital hotshoe I would much rather have the ECM-M1 mic that is out of your budget, or if you wanted to keep the budget down a little more the ECM-B10. I use them ECM-B1M on the go and in portable studio settings because that Auto-mode is just so dang good. Then if you want to up your audio drop it in adobe podcast ai and it makes things sound very good. I need to do a video on that actually.....Love to help you DM me on instagram for more help/questions.

Hey Paul thanks for your video! I am doing client interviews. I use DJIs wireless mics and also plug in lavier go from rode. I am not that happy with all the sound so I am thinking of getting the NTG5. Since I own a FX3 the XLR should be nice. But I am not sure wether its my settings or the setup that limits. One time a had the shirt of the client rubbing on the lavaier for instance....the sound was unsusable. If it didnt rub it was fine. I cant be sure that no shirt rubs on it I assume. I am also unsure wether to connect the NTG5 to the DJI transmitter and just skip the XLR ....would appreciate your thoughts :)
@PaulFeinberg Жыл бұрын
You mean plug the NTG videomic into the DJI? I mean if it was me and it was for client shoots, I would for sure go with the Rode NTG5. If it was just for KZbin the NTG videomic sounds great, but I like the professional XLR plug, if someone trips over it, its not coming out. The NTG Videomic into the DJI, you could get drops outs or interference. I would do that for KZbin for less cable and such but not risking it with client work. NTG5 sounds slightly better to my ears. I also need to re-due this test and do NTG videomic straight into the camera, in this demo it went into the K3M and I wonder if that helps it at all (probably not overall, but would be another good video). Hope this helps!

I mean I bought it for this and relate all mistakes more to the hardware than the send signal. That might be wrong dont know. I also dont know If I can do the following: Put a Mic on the Client (Lavalier into DJI Tranmitter) send it to the reciever which sits on my FX3 Plug the transmitter into the FX3 (or into the FX3 Handel? Input 3? is there a difference? So I get the sound from the client over the lavalier plus: Lets say I will get the Rode NTG5 and put it straight to the client plugged into my xlr in my FX3. Can I record multiple? I could do this while disconecting the DJI form the FX3 but than I need to always need to hit recored separatedly. And need to synchronice. But I am lost how to set like: Save this audio channel there, this one here and so on. So different questions :) But again: Is there a big difference between lavalier und shotgun straight ? Maybe there is a video you recommend? Story is: When I wanted to buy a shotgun last time I got the DJI Mic since I thought its even better. It worked fine so far btw.
