Rodecaster DUO setup - with the PLAYSTATION 5

All that Playstation 5 and Rodecaster duo squeltching stuff can be fixed but unfortunatly for now you have to put something in between the duo and the Playstation 5 hope this helps.

I just wish Rode would fix the USB issue, I know it can work with the PS5, I heard the audio coming thru the mixer and it sounds very clear, just that bit-crushing sound issue that keeps showing up every few minutes and lasting for a few seconds, most likely a firmware bug with the Duo and Pro 2. Please Rode, fix this.

Sounds like it might be a bit rate conversion issue.

@-B.C- unfortunately i have tried all the different settings on the duo and ps5 with it still coming through,.....so it is what it is at this point until something changes between the 2 devices then the work arounds will just have to be the way

@@G.E.T 🫰I remember where/when I’ve heard the sound you’re all describing. I used to get the same sound out of my old Logitech Z5500 when I first plugged it into my PS5. Every 5 minutes or so. It was a Dolby/dts standard compatibility issue I was never able to resolve. Have you tried connecting the rodecaster duo to a ps4 via usb to see if the old standard still works? This should help determine if this is a ps5 issue and not a rodecaster issue. I’m thinking about purchasing a rodecaster duo. I think I will be able to use my sound blaster AE9 as an optical input then control the ps5 audio through the rodecaster.

If I wanted to go the cheapest route and just get rid of the distortion, what would you recommend? I just need sound from my ps5, it doesn’t need to be the highest quality

Cheapest route i would say use remote play to bring in your sound,…..and/or you could get a audio card from amazon maybe the gs4 for like 25$

He, everything works as described.. Only one question as a streamer myself. The audio from the PS5 comes into my headset but how do i get it to the mixer itself? So the audience can hear it?

how does it work with the steel series dac? you can only monitor either usb c 1 or two on the game gen dac individually. I can see if it would be able to monitor both - because then you could route digitally to the input of the usbc of the rodecaster duo.

i bought the gen 2 gamedac gen 2 and it only monitors each usb source individually. maybe it is different with the gen 1?

So when i use the dac 2 or the original i will actually plug in my headset to the console so i have no latency sound for the console and the headphone jack 1 on the back or the front of the rodecaster duo will be plugged into the input of the steel series dac

Alright so I’m back after trying the usb sound card method with the 1/8 to 1/4 TRS connection. It’s possible to hear PlayStation audio (Home Screen music & system sounds) & Game audio with this method. If you connect one end of your TRS cable (1/8) to the headphone port on your usb sound card that’s connected to your ps5 and the other end of the TRS cable (1/4) to whatever audio interface you’re using, you can hear your PlayStations audio. Here’s the issue; Your XLR mic will not be picked up at all. I believe that’s because the ps5 is only registering the connection as a headset not a microphone. You also will not be able to hear party chat audio, if you are it will be extremely low.

Yeah,…..the a50s have the same input output in the back as the steel series dac

@@G.E.T yeah got one the base station needs a trrs cable when i got trrs to trrs to the duo in front it works with static noice need a isolator but they don’t exist for trrs cables only Trs cables. I think i may need to splitter one on each end and some isolator in between.

So I bought the duo after watching your original video thinking the setup would be plug and play with no issues but I'm getting the same distortion you mention here.. I'm not looking to use a capture card for streaming or anything if I don't need to, I just want to be able to use my xlr microphone and wired headphones to be able to hear and send audio to my PC and PS5 without having to move cable/change inputs. Can you recommend which fix I should use? My end goal is just be able to use my xlr mic (plugged into RCD) to chat on the ps5 or my PC and have the audio from the ps5 come back the duo for my headphones that are plugged in. Is this possible without the distortion?

It is but you’re gonna have to use the ps remote play to get your ps5 audio in. Remote play would be the easiest way to do this if you’re not looking to use a capture card

@@willpenaa I wasn't able to resolve the issue but I set up a workaround. It's slightly complex.. On the PS5 I have a USB A to 3.5mm dongle attached. From the USB A dongle I run a 3.5mm cable with a ground loop isolator attached to it to the back of my PC to the blue "Line-In" port. From there I make sure the Line-In Input is enabled on my pc and volume's set to 100, I also set the format to 2 channel 96000 hz for better quality. For the microphone input I have the USB C cable plugged into the PS5 going to the RCD directly. When I boot up the PS5 I make sure I manually switch which audio inputs/outputs I want to use. For audio Output I use the USB A dongle and for Mic Input I use the RCD. In this setup the PS5 output audio will be blended with your PC audio on the rodecaster Duo (USB1 Main). If you're savvy enough you can go one step further and setup Voicemeeter Banana on your PC. That will allow you to set the Line-In audio to route to a different output source instead of USB1main. I use it to route the Line-In audio to the USB1Chat fader instead. That way I can control the volumes on the PS5 and the PC separately on the Duo.

I appreciate u making this video- I have 3 questions and 1 statement. Statement is, I’d like to see how those first 2 solutions you showed work, because I’m curious if/how they’d work with a pc and capture card involved. Question 1- for the capture card setup you briefly hit on, would I still need to purchase the adapter that plugs into the ps5? Or would I jus hook up my capture card the normal way with hdmi and use the 3.5mm connection from the capture card to the duo? Question 2- would any solution you showed here today work with an internal PCIE capture card like the 4k60? Question 3- where do you plug your headphones in? Your steel series dac, your gaming/streaming pc, the rode duo, or your ps5 controller?

First sorry about the delay in the video,….i wanted to do as much testing as possible to bring all information i could,……answer to question 1 you would not need another external card for the ps5 if you have a capture care with an audio out port,…..you would simply plug that into the cap card and then into the secondary xlr/input port on the back of the duo,…..answer 2 i have the 4k60 internal and aver media pcie cards and you wouldnt need either of these solutions as you could use the hdmi audio of the card for audio out and then just push that through whichever usb port your pcie card is hooked to,…..answer to question 3 for the steel series dac i have this hooked to my gaming pc/ps5 both,……and then a 3.5 mm jack from the front of the duo to the back of the steel series dacs input

I do have follow up questions however- #1 being, if I have an internal capture card but want to capture my ps5 party and game audio how would I set that up with the duo? #2, when I asked where are your headphones plugged into, I meant like your physical pair of headphones, if they’re wired, where do you plug the cord into? More specifically ig I should ask, how to you hear your audio, from which central device is your headset plugged into

@gabriel189 @gabriel189 so for ps5 party chat i wouldnt use the party chat now that the ps5 has native discord support i would use that much easier than having multiple cables here and there just put discord on your streaming pc and use the duo chat track for discord and you’re golden on party chat,….if i am using my playstation for a game it is coming through the steel series dac that is hooked to the ps5 and all other audio (like discord and mic) are pushed through the duo and connected with a 3.5 mm jack from the output port on the front of the duo to the input port on the back of the steel series dac (oh and the arctis nova pro wireless headset is what i am using)

Bc I don’t have a separate streaming pc, I use one pc for everything. It’s a silly question but I just wanna be 100% sure before I start spending money on the necessary equipment

@bmo.5000 that’s a good question,……if you use the headphone jacks in the back you get distortion,…..the headphone jack from the front no so much,……not sure but this is how i have it hooked up at the moment,….unless the newer updates have fixed the issue

The input line in port in the middle of where you would plug in the xlr connector,......this is the only way do do it with the ps5 without distortion side note it will only be mono audio not stereo unless you use both line ins and not xlr mic ,.....unless you use remote play to get the ps5 audio

Yes you can connect the dac to the DAC output to input port on a pc or a sound system,….settings for audio ouput are on the dac,…..but the dac has only one output so if you’re going into multiple sound system’s you’ll have to split/duplicate the audio

@@wilsonrubio5639 ok that’s an easy one connect one headset from the back of your duo to the steel series dac input connect the stereo monitors output on the back of your duo to your sound system,……and plug the steel series dac into your pc using the pc usbc port,……..then you have all 3 and they can be easily muted and fader controlled

@@gomenzki5464 ok so usb to 3.5 mm and then you would have to go from 3.5 mm to 1/4 inch adapter and the quarter inch adapter into the 1/4 inch input jack on the back of the duo that is in the middle of the xlr dual jack
