if your camera has horrible built in pre amps, just turn them down in the menu settings. when using this rode system, its best to turn the built in audio all the way down, then add 1-2 .. then just do a +10 or +20 boost on the actual rode. that way, you'll get much better sound

Hi, so i bought this rode mic and i connected it to my Nikon d5300. But when i shoot a video and watch it, there's a lot of noise like someone is blowing trough the mic. I also connected this mic with my zoom h2n on Line In. There's no noise. What am i doing wrong with the camera and mic? honestly i dont know the proper settings of the mic....

I enjoyed the thorough information. I notice Rode now has the XLR adapter. How do you pair it quickly using the same receiver? Sometimes I would want to use the XLR adapter with a mic and at other times the lavaliere mic is necessary. I also observe in reading that the lavaliere can also be used with the XLR adapter as well.

Really enjoyed your review. answer every question I had. The only thing I was confused about was towards the end you commented that you wish the kit had a XLR connection. Isn't the snap on XLR connector that can be purchased that connects to the 3.5mm mini jack that connection? It does allow the kit to be plugged into XLR port on a camera?

Hi! I have a question: I am feeding the rode wireless filmmaker kit into the tascam dr60mk ii, and recording straight into the tascam recorder, and one thing I am noticing with the screen display of my wireless receiver is that it shows the audio level but only one bar, I mean as I talk on the mic lavalier, on the tascam recorder I can see my audio levels no problem there, they move according to the input levels of my voice, but on the screen display of my rode wireless receiver the audio input levels stay only on the first bar, it never moves up to the second or third bar. Is that normal?

I really wanted to see a important comparison between Sennheiser and RodeLink for the fact that they both are different as Analog and Digital transmission used respectively. Hence the deal breaker should not be the distance or buttons but the interference. Did you get a chance to check how they behave in a crowded environment with 100 to 200 ft distance like a party site, ball room conference, exhibitions, festival scenarios as that's where we should see many mobile phones really in action. I really wish you post the test results of the transmission issues. Thank you.

Hey great review thanks! Do you have any idea of how it performs in busy streets or any other area of big cities? I've been testing it in Barcelona, Spain, and I keep having dropouts in distances below 40m, we've tried several channels and also 3 different brand new kits. We also tried pointing receiver and transmitter to each other and same result. We even had our phones off during tests and nothing new. We also tried with different type of batteries and different cameras, but we always had some drop outs

Nice work, I am about to get the "Rode-link wireless filmmaker kit" and very impressed about how you reviewed this. I use a Canon XA30 camera which has XLR sockets. Rode have a adapter allowing this cable to be connected XLR sockets, I'm not sure if you have checked how that works. As for connecting a XLR microphone to the system...yes that sounds interesting. Hopefully Rode are working on that as I use NTG4+ microphones and it would be good to be able connect one of them to this from time to time...makes me think...I was also interested on how you connected the zoom H6 to the system. Yeah a very good review well done.

@zy_cheng7 жыл бұрын
+Mate Kava Hi there, to do that you'll need to purchase 2 kits of these. 2 transmitters, 2 receivers. The Saramonic UwMic9 can handle 2 transmitters with one receiver though, I have made a review about it not too long ago
@ashmorevideo9 жыл бұрын
Really happy with the unit, my only complaint is that when you go out of range for a short period of time the TX unit shuts down and does not switch on again when you are back in range, not ideal when you can not get back to the TX unit. e.g. When filming a wedding and the priest is wearing the unit and has started the service and you have no way of getting to him to switch the unit back on.Michael

Great in depth review of this system! Though I have a question. Did you use any noise reduction when you we're testing the system indoors? Especially the sound when you breath in sounds a bit off. When you showed the system outdoors though it seems like you probably didn't use any reduction due to the ambient that could actually represent being outdoors. Looking forward to your answer :)
@zy_cheng9 жыл бұрын
+Bas Huijben You have very good ears! Very observant of you to notice - I have applied a very little bit of noise reduction for the indoor tests, mainly because the fans on my LED lights were showing up pretty loud in the audio.

+ZY Productions I never used wireless microphones so I'm happy someone asked this question. But do you mean that we can't use 1 transmitter for 3 receivers (for example)? So what are the channels you talked about? Btw great review ;-)
@zy_cheng9 жыл бұрын
So far the RodeLink system only supports one-to-one communication between their Rx and Tx units. However the general rule for wireless systems is you can have multiple receivers for a transmitter but not multiple transmitters for one receiver. Think of it as talking, one person cannot hear multiple people speaking to him at the same time, but many people can listen to one person speak. As for the channels, it's for when you have multiple sets of Tx and Rx's. Imagine if many people were to have a conversation in the same room, it would be noisy and hard to hear. Hence operating multiple sets of wireless devices on the same channel will be very unstable as they are subject to a lot of interference. Switching to an empty or unoccupied channel would be like having a conversation in an empty room.

Nice! Can i use same channel with 2 lavs?! Can i put a external mic, example: Rode VideoMic Pro or a Handmic Shure?
@zy_cheng9 жыл бұрын
Samyr Novelli Each set can only transmit one Stereo track. You could get away with 2 tracks if you split the L and R channels. But of course, you'll need some sort of adapter to do that. You can transmit any audio signal with it, as long as you can plug it in.
@samyrnovelli9 жыл бұрын
Oh, yes! For example, i have 2 rodelink kits, but i set 2 in same channel, can i make it without problem?

You shouldn't be using 2 kits on the same channel. And for the adapter, you'll need to get it according to what you intend to use it with.

I just tested this product myself, against a Sennheiser G3 and a Sony UWP-D. In my experience the Rode had a quieter noise floor, but a slightly more boxy sound. What really disappointed was that it didn't have an XLR connector, so I would need to then purchase a 3.5mm to XLR adaptor for each channel. Boo! Other than that it is a very convenient product with less fiddling than the more traditional wireless mics around.
