After the lawmakers banned safe novelty consumer fireworks in 2010 Hawaii residents all started buying fireworks from the black market, but the black market specializes in professional grade fireworks so this is the result. And every year since the ban the number of illegal fireworks increases.

Looks like fun and games but 4 people died in two separate incidents on Oahu and several others were seriously injured, including at least two children 5 and under with serious burns. Not to mention those aerials are all illegal. Tradition only goes so far.
