I've always hated this musical but this orchestration is intriguing and almost makes me want to see it.

It did get way too much hate. It’s certainly something; the vocals were stellar and I loved the parts included here and the chemistry between various cast members was so palpable I felt like I was actively intruding on a private moment (the Surrey with the fringe on the top was very VERY racy). But the visceral moments were jarringly unpleasant and the changes to the characters seemed to to make the protagonists more unlikable to the point of leaving the story on a real sour note. I really enjoyed it, but I ‘cain’t’ say I loved it.

Her voice was amazing, and I get the accent is hard, but the charm of her character was the way the way the words are pronounced. Even in the title of the video. Its "Cain't" not can't

The 1943 restoration gets the pronunciations perfectly, better than both movies in my opinion. It's available here on KZbin. It's my favorite version & I've seen dozens

Something is missing! If you like this version of “I Can’t Say No,” than you must hear it sung by Ali Stroker. Ali Stroker was part of the revival cast that brought the show to Broadway a few years ago. She sings from her wheelchair … I don’t know how she gets that much air into her lungs. Both the Georgina Onuorah (West End) and Ali Stroker (Broadway) versions are amazing. But OKLAHOMA (West End) is missing something - that quintessential American Oklahoma twang. Maybe that’d be lost on a UK audience, who knows. It’s that twang that helps ground this musical to the point that it’s almost another character in the show. And when it’s missing … what a difference. Ali Stroker adds that twang to her performance and it’s the better for it. Go here for Ali Stroker and enjoy: Cast Album - kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3zak4mtisZmrLcsi=ragCTCEOzY1ha4Nf Tony Awards - kzbin.info/www/bejne/apOzlKRvYsRsoqssi=PgJ_ZLhpbvMZ0jRF

Look, the songs and story line are exactly the same, nothing is changed except the production is odd. I would say see it but be prepared for odd.

This production is just a bizarre version of a great show. It needs the full orchestration and it needs the actors to understand their characters. London got it right with the Hugh Jackman revival and the Americans screwed it up badly in 2020.

Can't agree; saw it in London a few weeks ago and loved the more authentic musical arrangements ... can't imagine there were many orchestras floating around the prairies at the beginning of the 20th century.

I saw it on Broadway in early 2020 and loved it. Grew up on the traditional version and loved the re-take. This version seems odd - like a comic book.

I'm not a purist by any means but I'm still not 100% sold.on the whole concept of this production. It feels, watered down orchestrally and that's not a good thing for R&H.

But it’s a good thing for a great deal more. If you watch the acceptance speech when they win Best Revival, you’ll start to understand why they did it like this. It says SO much about what’s going on right now and the desperate need for change!

I partially agree. I think the softer folk/country sound works great for "I Cain't Say No"! But, "Oklahoma" was written as such a big rousing song, making the orchestration so paired down makes it depend entirely on the actors to make the song build up to that finale. And you can see the actors are just absolutely killing themselves to try and give this song the energy that it really needs for that ending. But, I still don't think it fills the theater as much as it really should. The rest of the show probably sounds great with that smaller folk sound but, the title song could've benefited from just gradually added in a few more instruments as the song went along so, it literally sounds bigger than any other song in the musical by the time the song ends (which it how that song really should sound in comparison to the rest of the show). Requiring the actors to work that hard to try and create that illusion themselves was just unnecessary (and kinda mean, actually...).

@@SwiftFoxProductions You need to remember that this is the Royal Albert Hall we’re dealing with here! The theatre where the show plays at, Wyndhams’s is much more enclosed, so it’s easier for the sound to fill the whole space there!
