This might seem like a strange post but I wanted to say thank you. My dad was a bricklayer but he has been unwell for years. He manages to teach me simple things that will “save me money” he never got the chance to teach me brick work so watching you has educated me. He had his leg amputated and is worried he won’t be able to get back out to his hut so I wanted to build him a ramp to get him back out to what he loves. I’m confident with all your videos that I will manage. Just shows you how important these videos can be to people’s livelihood. If you could recommend any cheap useful cement mixers I would appreciate it mate (for future projects). Thanks again

Don't bother buying a cement mixer if it's limited to rare use, rental is always a good option and they're always in good nick!

I was looking at the brick ceilings in Ajijic,Mexico and came across your video. I used to live in a brick house in maryland,U.S.A. Built in about 1904 it was all brick, Two bricks wide and soldiers every Five courses. No insulation just plastered walls inside. Two stories 50 feet long and not a crack anywhere.

As non-brick layer but a fan of brick laying, just wonder why your cement always looks like a brown Sandy colour and never a grey cement colour? Maybe a stupid question-apologies in advance.

it's the colour of the sand. This is yellow sand. Looks nice doesn't it.

The colour of the sand from local quarries defines the mortar colour. You can have whatever colour mortar (within reason) by using sand from different quarries nationwide, add dye or have tubs of special coloured mortar.

In our part of the world sand is silvery gray therefore, cement gives its true colour.

Hi Justin. I generally don't trust others to do my footings either, this was the first time where they were actually bang on level! Every other time they have been out. Turned out nice and the customer was made up with the end result 😁👍

If you have a wall like this and one side is 5" tall and the other side is 8.5" tall (sorry for American measurements) then how do you make up for the discrepancy in heights down the line? Do you put less mortar on the short side and more mortar on the high side? Is that how that works? Would it look silly if one side were thin and one were thick?

Hi Rodian, excellent video, very informative. What if my neighbours ground level is 350mm above mine. If I fill up the cavity with lean mix up to near dpc 150mm above neighbour ground floor, that would leave the internal wall uninsulated somewhat…how to prevent that..what wd u do..?
