There's a better way to transform SS Hot Rod's legs. 1. Separate the legs from the the spoiler. 2. Raise the spoiler. 3. Make the legs do the splits. 4. Unravel the red from the legs. 5. Fold the legs out. 6. Collapse the red in. Finally, swing them in and rotate the waist. In regards of the qc issues, I'm pretty sure you just got a bad copy. I feel Kingdom Rodimus falls victim to the same MP44 treatment, a very amazing figure with added crap to artificially inflate the price. The main figure is amazing for a mainline figure almost being a literal masterpiece, moreso than the other figures because of added articulation: double elbow and knee joints, opening/closing hands with separate index fingers, and an opening matrix compartment. I cant say Ive had alot fun with the ranges of articulation this figure has. If this was a standalone leader class, I wouldn't be disappointed with the price. But then without his "trailer" we wouldn't have his signature alt mode. Thats where I have my gripes, if they had made him leader clase, they could've made some compromises with the trailer similar to ER/KD optimus. In fact a smaller trailer would've been better for me because sometimes I see the trailer as being too big.

you are WAY too hard on ss86 hot rod, to the point it makes you look biased against him for whatever strange reasons.... Yes, I know you gave him a 3 of 5 ratings, but look at the amount of nitpicking you did on him... For example, things like the butterfly joints on the shoulders don't really affect his ability to pose, yet you counted it as one of his flaws. Same thing as the Matrix Chamber. Hotrod never put the matrix into his chest in the movie. He only gained that ability after he became Rodimus. Hell, you even had an issue with his crotch area's design and compare it to a diaper when it's actually one of the most well-engineered crotch Hotrod had in a long time. and you are being way too forgiving on the PotP Rodimus. It was a pretty decent figure at its release, but it's horribly dated now... No, being a combiner doesn't excuse dated design, and lack of articulation. His shoulders after becoming Rodimus are HORRIBLE, but dude it almost became a strength to you..... Who cares how high you can rotate the shoulders if it's connected to a stick? I know this is your opinion and it's fine that you like PotP Rodimus more... but man I was expecting a more objective review.....

Secondly, the trailer becomes a part of the actual robot and I LOVE that. I have always had a problems with TRAILERS HIDING IN OTHER DIMENSIONS AND THEN JUST SHOWING UP OR VANISHING AS THE ANIMATION CREATORS SEES FIT! Ehrm. So, for me the POTP version does everything right. Except crappy stickers. And paint mismatchings. And a few things about the trailer. But overall, much better than Kingdom. I still have mine next to my Takara Powermaster Optimus from that Combiner Wars mold on my Headmaster shelf. I kinda look at it as a sort of Powermaster Rodimus, like as if Hot Rod wanted to be more powerful like he was when he was leader and I think it works there. SS86 Hot Rod though I think is a marvel of engineering in many respects. There are issues, such as a big yellow hinge in the roof, unpainted rear rims and some peoples copies having tolerance issues, but to me, not as many issues as you had with this one. True he isn't as fun to transform but the level of engineering they put into a figure that size still amazes me. Kingdom Rodimus though I totally agree with you on that. I'm not into the painted wing and I will be painting the rims silver but everything else is really great.I even like the trailer if not those segmented side pipes Here's hoping for a 3rd Party pipe fix, a color molded yellow spoiler and maybe a replacement face, lol.

Also the trailer is doing what the original trailer did, and with the already mentioned secret compartments means it does more than before too. I think people just whine because they can't buy him due to price. Rodimus needs the trailer to complete the look, you can't get away from it.

This video was great. I never got the POTP Rodimus because I just could NEVER find it/Same with the Kingdom figure. I don't like the stuff from SS86 Jazz, but I love SS86 Hotrod. Weird, I know. I cannot wait for that new rumored Transformers Legacy line where we'll get new figures based on fan-favorites from all the different eras like Prime Arcee. GOD, I love Prime Arcee SO MUCH.

I don’t really understand a lot of your issues with SS86. Personally I’d say apart from the shoulders and stuff not clicking in in vehicle mode, it’s a fantastic figure. It’s certainly not perfect but I feel like you were a bit too harsh on the little guy, especially regarding the transformation and the legs thing. It reminds me with how people would get upset over the chestpeice on Combiner wars Magnus getting stuck and complaining about having to force It out when if you turn the leg sections 50 something degrees, it comes out much more easily.

@@DrLockdown I mean, I guess I can see some of your points regarding it? Honestly, I agree with the score anyhow simply due to the joints and the entire thing being hinged on a clear plastic windshield makes me scared to transform it into car mode as well as it being too bright a red for me. Then again I never really took notice of the butterfly joint issues since I don’t often get figure with them but come to think of it, the fact that he has them and they don’t properly work is kind of worse than just not having them at all. Granted, I don’t know if they were meant to be butterfly joints but the fact that it was there and an opportunity to make one by editing the chest presented itself and they didn’t take it is saddening to me.

So, this is gonna be a novel. The only Transformers (or collectibles period) that I collect are Hot Rods / Rodimus Primes. I always make sure to get at least two copies of each so I can display bot modes alongside vehicle modes. Sometimes I'll grab a third to have a MISB. As you can see I am pretty fanatical about my Hotrods. He was my first G1 transformer as a kid, but it is more than memories...I legit love his design. Some of my favorites are FT17 (which I think is the best looking bot-mode Hot Rod), Metalverse Rodimus statue, and MP09 - despite being a TERRIBLY engineered and poorly-transforming figure, its Convoy mode is absolute perfection and wonderfully gigantic. In my opinion it is the overall best looking vehicle-mode Rodimus Prime, with MP28 being the best looking vehicle-mode Hot Rod. A few pleasant surprises came in the form of the Mech Fans Toys Flame Commander. Despite being relatively small, he was an incredible value for his cost upon release. He is extremely fun to fiddle around with, has a wide variety of modes and is very detailed and good looking in all of said modes, especially the truck mode and bot standing in trailer battle base. Of course, DX9 has a good offering with Carry. I personally like Carry's convoy mode a lot more than his robot mode, even if it is quite a bit smaller than it should be. So. Here comes Kingdom Rodimus. I adore the robot mode, even if the wing tips are way too blunt, and like the Studio Series 86, he has all these weird deep grooves and mechanical detail lines all over his body. I am okay with this release not being 100% G1 cartoon accurate, even though that is what I prefer in a figure. I love all the cool accessories he comes with. I do not mind the high-ish price tag. I love his many display options. I absolutely hate his vehicle modes. Both of them. I hate the convoy mode especially, because it is around 20% too stretched out, and the back tires of the car do not line up with the middle tires of the trailer, a flaw that sticks out like a sore thumb once you notice it. The problem is that shortening the whole truck wouldn't do any good, because the car sticks out way too far. It is hideous. The Hot Rod car mode has a massive, ugly rear end. Had it not been for the trademark big yellow spoiler and flame paint job I doubt I would have even recognized this vehicle mode as belonging to Hot Rod. Hot Rod is meant to be sleek, wedge shaped, flat, aerodynamic...and while his vehicle does become thicker and more stout in Convoy mode, it is simply unrecognizable in this iteration. I do not like it. I liked Studio Series 86's vehicle mode despite all the weird circuitboard-esque "mechanical detail" lines all over it...as this one and many other WFC bots also have...but I'll be keeping my Kingdom Rodimus in bot mode 100% of the time. Do I still like it? Yeah, and I ordered two. But I am also very disappointed. SS86 turned out great in both forms. It is a huge shame that Kingdom Rodimus looks like such garbage in his vehicle modes. I can only hope when we FINALLY get an update to MP09, the R&D team adopts a different set of design principles than the ones they have been following as of late. I also hope the new MP09 isn't $400 bucks, but it probably will be...if not more.

My Hot Rod lost most of it's tight tolerance issues after the first few times transforming. The weird ports on the pizza cutter are so it can "combine with the Guns when mounted on the vehicle. It doesn't look very good, but it's technically weapon storage...

@DrLockdown This has been the longest I have sat on a Transformers review and it was very satisfactory. I have ONE tiny piece of critique that you could had used in a comparison of the Rodimus/Hot Rod in the transformations, and it was that Studios 86 borrowed the leg transformation from the Titans Return Hot Rod, if not, just took it entirely to the point that their feet are the same. Otherwise, for as long as this review video was, it was surely a very good and fun one.

There is a third answer which after watching your more recent stuff I think you became aware of. MONEY! Budget probably didn’t let them have a matrix chamber and the butterfly joints couldn’t be redesigned once they didn’t work because they weren’t allowed the tooling budget. Money seems to be the answer to everything whenever we talk to retired designers.

Your criticisms of the accuracy to the G1 design isn't very solid. The nature of traditional cell animation means that the design aren't always very consistent. I bet they worked off of many different references for the SS86 hotrod to get a nice amalgamation.
