When I first met my husband he would sing this song. Eventually, I would harmonize on the chorus. I always found this song so heartbreaking yet beautiful. I lost my husband unexpectedly four years ago 💔. Hearing this song again, I am so grateful for the love we got to share.

First time I heard this song was at Rodney's Nottingham (UK) Rock City concert when he was touring The Houston Kid with Will Kimborough. You realise on first listen what a fascinating and beguiling number it is. The perfect way to round off the album. Those are killer opening words: 'So I'm an orphan now, out here on my own.' Looking forward to the Chinaberry Sidewalks tour coming to England.

I sang this song at the funeral of my Dad, Arnold MacEachern (1934-2022 ) last week;I sang for my Mom 7 years ago. I might have sang "Things I Wish I'd Said", but I don't think my Dad and I ever had a harsh word.

A lovely song. For a few years Rodney would close his show with this song. I never wanted a Rodney show to end. Thank you for sharing.

one of his loveliest songs. Rodney is one of our greatest songwriters because he brings his life into his songs, and they resonate with truth and grace. great post!

I grew up on Telephone road Just a few miles from where Rodney did. He is 10 years older so I never knew him but it is amazing to me how similar our lives were. That is except for his musical talent. I play alot of his songs which is easy. He wrote so many beautiful compositions that he will always be my favorite.

I grew up off of Canal St in the Second Ward of Houston and my elementary school was on Telephone Rd. I later lived and worked very close to Wayside Dr. My life growing up was also similar to Rodney’s, an alcoholic father, lower middle class with never enough money but my parents somehow scraped by. What a beautiful song, one of his best.

If by 20 you meant ever I coud not agree more. If you grew up in Houston in the 60s and do not have this CD you should have to move to Dallas
