In my opinion they have never miscast anyone in fools and horses, When the great Leonard Fenton died, they cast Buster Merryfield and he fitted in really well as their uncle. When they decided to introduce love interests for Del and Rodney the brought in Tessa and Gwyneth and again they fitted right in, It really was one of those shows that just clicked with everything they did.

It's funny you should say that because David Jason (White) was 3rd choice for Del boy. Even when he was picked some people weren't happy about it, because he wasn't really wanted. And look how well he done! It's the guys most memorable character.
@albaproductions960210 жыл бұрын
Liam Berry You're right, John Sullivan actually wanted the actor who went on to play Slater, it was one of the producers Ray Butts I think who saw a re-run of Open All Hours and convinced John that David was right for the part. Some how I couldn't see Jim Broadbent as Del Boy. It's funny you should mention about David not wanted by those upstairs when he was eventually picked maybe because he wasn't the luvvy type of actor.

It gets a bit ropey from season 7 onwards. It becomes very soap like and a lot more politically correct and predictable. There's still some decent episodes. But I prefer the more realistic and gritty feel of the earlier episodes. The jokes were a lot more original and refreshing back then, when nothing about it was slapstick and over the top.

There will always be good comedy about, just as there will always be good music. The difference being that whereas music is uncensored, comedy now is. Doubt this? Comedians who want to perform before students at SOAS, for example, have to agree, before going on stage, not to make jokes about a list of topics. Sadly, the list is so exhaustive that unless your jokes are about white, heterosexual, Christian Tories, (or their WASP equivalent in the US), then you don't have act. If this is 'progress' then it only of the type that would be praised in North Korea. Comedians should be able to offend everyone, not just the white straight in the suit. If that is all humour amounts to, you are giving it the Last Rights.
@theplayer22864 жыл бұрын
@brownwings00 I appreciate that he is not censored as far as you are concerned. All of his humour is targeted in the same one-sided direction. There is nothing wrong in that at all. He is a very talented guy. The problem is humour is ONLY allowed to be channelled in the same direction as that of Frankie Boyle. There is no 'reaction' because it is not allowed. No choice means no liberty. If you would open up your mind, just a tad, you would see that this is another form of censorship. In fact, the worst form of censorship in many ways because it lives under the delusion that it is type of 'freedom.'
