BedStuyGuy I stuck with it for a few months, at that point I couldn’t put up with the weekend guys crap anymore as they are absolutely clueless. It was okay until my first fm quit unexpectedly. They gave me an unsafe and overweight load to carry back to the shipper for correction. The driver who picked up that load suspected it was overweight so he never scaled it. The shipper was at a port so I guess he didn’t want to go back through the whole check in process, waiting for an escort, I assume he didn’t have a TWIC card. Between that and getting inaccurate appointment times for Saturday mornings when the customers were closed for the weekend which sucked. I turned the truck in and went local.

So i am about to turn 20 and i have been considering going into trucking for approx. the past 1.5 to 2 years. while working at UPS i of course like new hires at the time started out unloading and loading trailers but once i hit my 6-8 months there i began there yard shifter and after that i just loved and enjoyed that feeling. I would literally get out of class early bc my supers would call me during class and ask if i could come in 2-3 hours before start time to move trailers and set up the building. So as of the past 2 months i have been studying for when i get my CDL permit that way i will be ready. I have experience with a 10-speed yard tractor, an international, and even a mack. The UPS yard i worked for was a very small yard so it was originally difficult backing a 53' trailer on the wall or even docking in the building. while researching i was looking for companies that will actually provide you with paid CDL training and Roehl was the first company i came across. Im just waiting to turn 21 so i can apply and hopefully they hire me on. i believe the only problem i may have is that im not used to backing a truck that has beds in the back but of course thats what learning is for. Also question, i want to eventually be able to pull doubles/triples, when i get my CDL permit will i also be able to take the written test for that as well or do i have to wait to get my CDL license first?

Hi, are they still training just on manual? As someone who hasnt really ever drove a manual its a bit intimidating. But considering them for training, just worried about the whole 10 gears thing :)

Christopher Rochelle they no longer train in manuals. As far as I know it's all automatics

Christopher Rochelle hey there, if I were you I wouldn’t get your license restricted on automatic it could limit your opportunities. I like you, have never drove a manual before but you will get it, the instructors explain it well and I passed my cdl test on a manual first try. My company requires that you don’t have an automatic restriction so just something to think about

J dog the trucker hi. Thank you for the reply. I actually just completed school and passed my CDL test Saturday. I will have an automatic restriction but the company I am with is all automatic. The school I went to said I can come back anytime and get my manual training for free and they will then test me to get the restriction removed. School was had but I really enjoyed it. Great group of guys. Stay safe out there.

Did you have to bring money with during the training and how much do you recommend a person to bring
@MrCevans10262 жыл бұрын
I did bring money. You need to bring enough to last 3 weeks. You won't get paid until the end of week 3. So think about food,Laudry, and essentials

I'm planning on going to a company to get my CDL within the next couple of months. What tips could you give me to ease my worry because I've never done this before?
@MrCevans10264 жыл бұрын
Do your homework and make sure they fit your life and your family. Once you've decided on a company and you're happy with your decision move forward. And enjoy the ride
