The incredible thing is that Ally X beats Deck not only at same TDP but even at higher TDP, in AAA games Ally X at 17W gets 3hr while Deck at 15W 2hr, and at 15W Ally X performance is about 40% better than Deck Oled

@@neogenesus debloating, changing some settings around and adding a custom fan curve I was able to get an extra 10-20 frames on every single game on the original Ally. I’m kinda upset everyone has just released benchmarks from an Ally X straight out the box and no one posted benchmarks with some optimization done to their device. I’ve seen some people install windows 10 and get even better results.

First of probably the easiest thing to do is either install bazzite or windows 10 like I said, it automatically changes a whole bunch of settings and over all OS but I don’t mind windows 11 at all so instead I followed all the steps I saw in this video called “the ultimate rog ally tuning guide increase over all performance…..” by a channel called cppc tek. After that I just kept watching more and more similar videos and they all kinda cover the same things but they all have 1 or 2 tips that other don’t so you kinda gotta watch the videos the whole way thru so you don’t miss nothing cuz a lot of things are small things that don’t make that much a difference but they can quickly stack up. Also a lot of people don’t realize how much a difference it can make having a custom fan curve in armoury crate, you really miss out a lot of performance just using the stock operating modes.

I can't believe we're at the point where a premium product runs at 3 hours for modern games. And I'm sure when the Nintendo Switch 2 comes around its probably still going to run normal games at around 3 hours each. I'm not sure how long I usually game for, it's probably less than an hour, but If I'm still using a handheld and I have to plug it in every few hours that's a bit annoying.

@@marumisu9560 well thats just how much these games take these days, Remember even gaming laptops which are physically much lager still only play a few hours Its all down to how much power the games require and how the battery technology is Also remember a gaming desktop doesn’t run a a battery and they have power supplies running in the multiple 100s of watts cuz they run directly off the wall outlet of your house You can even buy power supply’s that output over 1000watts but just fitting a mobile 80watt battery into the rog ally x was hard enough So don’t expect much more for battery life in handhelds anytime soon

Instead of making the battery bigger, they should just do what deck oled did, make the chip more efficient Definitely will give more battery life than just a battery increase, as it lowers the power usage, which is way more valuable than increasing the battery, and it does better even in less intensive games, not just intense ones

I don't see them ever making a dedicated linux os, considering they're puttin their resources towards the armoury crate and windows. If you really want to, you can get Bazzite (basically SteamOS) on your rog ally and use it instead of windows, or alongside windows.

Im not gonna lie if the legion go had an oled and a vrr screen and 80w battery id be looking at that direction. That screen is huge but im loving my ally x. I dont miss my steam deck since im dual booting to bazzite. From time to time though i am phantomly reaching for the track pad. That's a missed opportunity from asus

@barozzbaro3283 yeah but the missing vrr was a deall breaker for me. I did read somewhere that lenovo might add a vrr screen in the legion go 2. Apparently the screen manufacturer did not have any screens in that size with vrr and to make it we'd probably wouldn't have seen it's release till early 2025 so lenovo didn't want to wait going against asus and valve

Thank you so much for taking that insane amount of your time to give us this quality battery test, it is the best one i have seen so far, i would only have maybe prefered to have at the end the tdp be 15w on all, so change the 17 of the X to manual 15w, as to have result that are base on same tdp, but that is nit picking ^^, I would love to see same testing done bu about the performance avg fps, 1% low and so on. 43fps for the steam deck, you are brain dead or just full on coping if you think you are getting more than 80fps. Show gameplay of it on your channel then, maybe you got a sneak peak of the next RDNA4 igpus, because nobody gets those fps with a rog ally.

Steam deck is still the only one that has battery grip from jsaux - I literally have three 74wh batteries with quick grip for the back of the steam deck effectively netting me 50wh+74wh*0.74*3=214wh battery - and the deck itself is more efficient than the ally, giving me more hours of play from the same capacity xD

The Deck and Deck OLED have the distinct advantage of having bespoke custom APUs specifically optimized for low voltage usage compared to everyone else. I feel like it's something both ASUS and Lenovo could pursue for future handhelds.

Meanwhile ROG Ally is using windows which is catered for a broader spectrum of devices. Steam deck also has a OLED screen which is eneegy efficient than LCD. Steam deck's processor is also optimized for its usecase. ROG Ally meanwhile uses a processor made for netbooks/ultrabooks.

Not all ROG Ally X users will want to run games at 720p, sure. But the truly battery conscious would probably do so in the interest of increasing battery life compared to running everything @ 1080p.

Impressive showing by the Ally X! On my Steam Deck OLED, I've always opted to use 10W, 11W or 12W for AAA games such as Cyberpunk 2077, mainly for the battery life improvement. For me personally, the performance drop from not using 15W is not significant, as anything(non competitive at least) running at a stable 30-45FPS is playable for me on these devices.

At this point no need to compare them just buy the best one on the market when you got the cash. Because they are all going to be replaced again after 12 months. Other thing people don't know it or talked about it , before steam deck exit there's older pc handheld stronger than ally x and lenovo go and they was exit in 2020-2021 with corei7 and 90w bettery , valve said steam deck used to be with oled & with bigger bettery life in the first place but if the device had powerful technology the price will be too much for people, or why steam deck become famous even though it's looks weak device for ayayneo and onexplayer ,but they used Nintendo switch ( the device didn't need to be stronger than ps5 or Xbox) but it's only need to be owned by most of people and trust it

It is on battery department but the bigger screen is great now the og ally is absolute garbage on battery and on the number of all other issues a complete waste of tech. I think the oled deck is the better one since it took asus to remake the ally to make it better if lenovo gives us a refresh on the go it can also deliver no doubt
