I own the go and im very happy with it, very glad I did not buy the other two, the screen size is so much better. Some cut scenes in games make the picture alot smaller on my go, id hate to imagine how small it must look on the ally x. Once you enable loss less or amfm2 etc, or just set the device to auto/performance mode, everything runs buttery smooth, diablo 4 i can get a good 80 to 100fps easy. gta 5 runs smooth as, everything is good.

Steam Deck OLED is my single fave piece of tech I've ever owned. 1 thing that not nearly enough people focus on in these videos, is that people LOVE playing older games! SD OLED has completely reignited my love for gaming with the ability to emulate all the classic consoles and play legendary PC games that I never got to, or haven't played in years on the go, with a gorgeous OLED display, and insane battery life (on older games and low power stuff, the SD OLED really shows it's insane efficiency, I played through almost the entirety of Half Life 2 on a 6 hour train ride the other day without charging). The few times that I have played new-ish games on it, I've been really surprised at what it can handle! It's extremely capable for everything BUT the absolute newest and most GPU demanding games (Which IMO make no sense to play on a handheld anyways). So unless you're specifically buying a handheld to play 2024 AAA games or you don't own any other more powerful console or device, and if you have ANY interest in classic, retro or indie gaming, I think the SD OLED is an easy winner. Obviously if you're rich, and don't mind doing a bunch of tinkering/customizing on windows/setting up dual booting with bazzite, etc.. then go for an Ally X, but otherwise the SD OLED is still my fave console/gaming hardware of all time

Honestly the people who have problems with both Ally and Legion are people who are downloading drivers not in Armory crate or legion space. If you go stock front end then you never have issues. I have all 3 handhelds and legion is by far my favorite for the screen.

@crestofhonor2349Ай бұрын
I own 4 of them, that being the Ally, Ally X, Deck OLED and Go. If I'm going to be honest the Legion Go's screen is overrated. It's a decent display but it is completely ill suited for a handheld being 2560x1600. I would have forgiven it more if it was 1920x1200 but it's not. The way pixel scaling is handled makes the image either soft or not great. Now while 1280x800 with integer scaling looks good it's not as nice as 1280x800 on the Deck OLED. I also do not care about the screen being 8.8in as it does border on too big as a handheld. The d-pad also is the worst on the Legion Go as well as the triggers. The sticks on the Legion Go also feel like they have less travel and aren't as comfortable as the others as well. The nice thing is that they are hall effect meaning they shouldn't ever suffer from drift like the other sticks. Another negative in the Legion Go is the fans. They are by far the loudest and most annoying of all three. They constantly run and are audible even on lower wattages while also being a bit high pitched making them not very pleasant. If they had a lower woosh sound like the Ally X and Deck OLED it could drown more into the background but it doesn't. The USB ports being on the top and the bottom is a love or hate, I don't really like it as often the bottom usb port isn't being used at all because it ends up getting in the way. It's also not very comfortable in my hands as well just because of the shape of the controllers. I also wish the track pad it had was better as the Steam Deck completely blows the Go's out of the water. The software is also a pain as sometimes it just refuses to work for no good reason and it's missing a lot of features that Asus and Valve have on their respective handhelds. Lenovo's software updates are also so few and far between as well making it feel like it's not very well supported by them. The back buttons are also bad and don't feel very good to press and are positioned badly. Too easy to press and are much too big. Battery life is a bit of a con too with it not being the greatest thanks to that large and bright display being power hungry. The display can also cause issues as it's portrait based and windows in some games sometimes doesn't like that. It's not too common but it can happen with older titles. Where the Legion Go does shine is in the home aspect and control versatility. The legion go is nice at home when you don't have take it places. It's detachable controllers are nice when you don't want to hold it or attach it to an external display. FPS mode is nice for those who want to use it. The dual USB 4 ports are also very useful as you can hook an eGPU up or any other thunderbolt accessory. That's something only the Legion can do as the Ally X only has 1 USB 4 port and the other is USB 3.2. The weight of the Legion Go is also something I do not notice myself. The kick stand on the back is also super useful and very solid so I have no worries of it ever breaking prematurely. Overall the build qualtiy of the Legion Go also feels very sturdy in the hand and feels solid as long as your controllers don't wobble, which sadly one of mine does. The last point is about the quality of the panel, which is extremely nice. The Go's display is wide gamut so in the case where there is content wider than sRGB, the Go can display those colors. Performance is also second best too. Otherwise windows just doesn't clamp the gamut making everything oversaturated which many people really like. While all of this is kind of annoying I do like the Legion Go but it is by far my least favorite. I can fully understand why some love it just for that display but I just don't see that as a big enough benefit to outweigh it's cons. The Original Ally I'd rank right above it. It too has a multitude of issues. The first and biggest issue is the one it's most known for, the infamous SD card reader. The fact that this made it through QA and didn't trigger any red flags is baffling. How do you sell something with a big feature where it is known to fail and sometimes take the storage media with it. This issue should have been spotted a mile away and never should have happened. The sticks are loose on it and while I don't mind it, many others absolutely hate the feel of the sticks on it. The fans can be a bit whiney at higher wattages too making it sound high pitched and annoying. It's not as bad as the Legion especially when under 15w where it is almost silent under load. The back buttons also could have been better too with them being a bit large and not super flush to the body. Battery life has to be the second biggest con about the device as frankly its bad. This bad battery life pushes me to try and stay under 15w on battery simply because 15w gives me 1 hour and 30 minutes on a full charge meaning that I'm constantly checking the battery to see if it's going to die. It and the Legion Go have battery anxiety because of that. Turbo mode is absolutely useless on battery with it giving less than an hour of playtime while also having the fans blasting at the same time. It's just not useful to have such a low playtime on a device that's supposed to be used on the go. The other complaint is it's feel in the hand. Many people find the Ally uncomfortable to hold thanks to it's lack of large grips. I do not mind this but it is a big enough issue for them to have changed it on the X Positives are it's size and buttons. I really like the OG Ally's shoulder buttons, triggers, face buttons, and dpad. They all feel satisfying to press, especially those triggers. Ally has some of my favorite triggers in any device including dedicated controllers, if only they had a way of making them a hair trigger like the upcoming Zotac Zone. The screen is very nice with it covering around 95-100% of sRGB. That is very nice because that means the majority of all content will just look correct as most content is mastered for sRGB only. VRR is also very nice as well too. Software has also had pretty solid support with Asus often listening to the community over requests to be added into Armory Crate. It never really feels like Asus is going to abandon the Ally as they do put out semi regular updates and keep the graphics drivers not too far behind the ones AMD offers on their site. Overall a great handheld with some glaring issues that have plagued it thanks to Asus's warranty issues and the questionable SD card slot that seems to be a lottery whether yours fails or not. Parts are at least readily available and because it's been on the market for a while and has sold well, there are plenty of accessories sold online for the Ally. There are almost as many accessories for the Ally as there are for the Deck which is a good sign of a healthy and bolstering market for it Steam Deck OLED I would place in second place. I don't have much bad to say about the Deck OLED as it's just an overall very solid device and I can understand why it is by far the most popular. My small complaints are stuff like the dpad not being my favorite but still being solid and the feel in my hands. I find myself constantly needing to adjust my hands on the Deck just to get it to sit right. Another con is the Windows situation, so while most people will never put windows on the Deck, Valve could be handling windows so much better on it. Dual booting isn't as easy as the Legion Go or both ROG Ally's and their support isn't the best either with the OLED taking almost a year to get proper drivers for windows. As for it's benefits, the Deck's screen is by far the best for colors. Not only does it have perfect blacks but it also has the widest color gamut of all of them. According to NotebookCheck, the Deck OLED meets 100% of not only sRGB but also AdobeRGB and DisplayP3 as well making it fantastic no matter it's typical SDR content or a good HDR implementation in a game. You know colors will look accurate no matter what. The trackpads have yet to be beaten by any handheld on the market with them not just feeling great but being very useful, especially with it being one of two handhelds on the market with dual trackpads. Sticks feel great too and aren't too loose either. The 4 back buttons feel very nice in the hand with them being flush enough and requiring just a bit more force just so you don't make accidental presses. The battery life is also fantastic with it being the only device ,besides the Ally X, where I don't sit around worrying that I need to plug it in eventually. Over all the Deck OLED is very solid as a device and does deserve it's place as the best selling PC handheld. Ally X is my favorite by far. It fixes much of the worst aspects of the original Ally and does more. Not only is it more efficient as a whole, it also has better and tighter sticks, better face buttons, and improved grips. The battery life improvement is worth it alone with it being more than double the OG Ally's thanks to many power optimizations not just doubling the battery capacity. It's run times are even better than the Deck while I am still able to play higher end games at better frame rates and/or visual settings. It is also the most comfortable device for me to hold. Performance is also top notch with the 24gb of ram being very useful for those games that end up being RAM starved on the other handhelds. The SD card reader has also been fixed as well too meaning no more premature failures and/or frying SD cards. TL;DR: ROG Ally X > Steam Deck OLED > ROG Ally OG >= Legion Go. Get the Legion Go for it's versatility as a handheld and for it's large screen. Get the OG Ally for it's great price to performance ratio as it's often on sale for good prices. Get the Deck OLED for the community and Valve support. Get the X if you just want the overall best handheld in performance and battery life

I love this review, kudos to you! To mention from an OG Ally owner and someone who travels 1:30hr to university almost everyday who sold it for £400 2tb edition went ahead and got the X for £640 open box last week, OG ALLY internally it just doesn’t feel and gives me longevity vibes with how everything is structured, 2280 NVMe is crap, joysticks and fans etc. Windows uses so much RAM itself so your left with breadcrumbs. I was playing cyberpunk 2077 and Ragnorok and it was suffering and fighting for its life compared to the X where you can have a much much smoother experience and the device didn’t feel it running was on fumes. That battery for those long train days? that’s worth it alone. For me, the £270 difference was steep but at least I’m having way more fun!
@crestofhonor2349Ай бұрын
@@mza2001 I think for the OG Ally you meant 2230 SSD. 2230 is also what the Steam Deck and Legion Go take. Legion Go can also take 2240 SSDs too which are even less common than 2230. Also windows does allocate a lot of ram but it doesn't use a ton unless you have something like 4gb of system RAM

I use my Go around the house for pc gaming, mostly plugged in, and my SD for emulation and travel. The X was just too expensive for what you get for me as I don't value the big battery too much for my use case. For 799 kind of money, I'll wait for next gen. Liked the Ally Extreme but decided to keep the Go for the larger screen. I am a large person so ergonomically it works for me. The Go needs a lot more tinkering. I agree that the Ally is better for most people, just not me.

I've used all 3. They are all great. If you find the 7 inch screen too small, the Go is for you. If not, the X is the best choice, but also the most expensive. The Ally Extreme is a less expensive but similar option with less battery life. If tinkering is not your thing and you just want a plug and play experience, then go with the SD (just know it has less horsepower and can't play everything). If you want the best bang for your buck, an open box or used Ally Extreme is the best value. Note that the next gen of these devices will be here soon and these will all be obsolete.

I like the steam deck but like the video says the Ally X is the best handheld pc right now. Plus I like windows on the Ally X with armory crate. Many would agree that it’s a plus cause of its versatility and those who hate on it either haven’t tried it themselves or are bad with tech. And bazzites always an option. Also, it plays any game out right now at a decent frame rate. I do have to tweak setting each time I bring up a new game, that’s a drag.

I’m so glad for your honest an unbiased review. I watch one review with a KZbinr putting the Ally X up against the Steak Deck OLED and it was su freaking biased. He made the Ally X seem like the worst device ever made. And to top it off he didn’t own the handheld to give a fair comparison smdh.

soon as i saw the ally x coming i nearly lost it as i got an oled early in the year. Now that you mention the Z2 chips coming later i feel relieved

I love the honesty. For example, it bother me so much that a channel like Digital Foundry talk so much shit about the Windows handhelds and don't give it the credit it deserves when it comes to performance and compatibility. Steam is amazing and has done a lot for the PC handheld world, that cannot be denied. Microsoft can be annoying with updates and configuring games but it's no nearly as bad as trying to install a game in SteamOS Desktop.

This comment deserves credit! Windows isn't bad at all. It's not power button and play and pause, but it's absolutely easy. I stopped taking my laptop on 90% of my trips because of these.

The game changer features for me was the LegionGO controllers that can be detached and use like a windows tablet I bought 2 months ago and love it. I use for work in my clinic, if i have some time i play some game, this versatile is awesome

I bought the steam oled, enjoyed it to a point, but then I needed a bigger screen and something more powerful then came across the legion go, so I sold the oled and bought legion go and it’s a beast of a handheld bruh, it works like a damn monster, I hook it up with my monitor at times and this thing passes fora pc computer which technically it is lol. If you need a bigger screen that’s more powerful and runs every game, don’t think about it get the legion go.

Your videos are exactly what I was looking for when I want to see handled comparisons. I love that you show real life situations comparing the devices like the elden ring Home Screen in the dark. It really gives you an idea of the display difference for each in terms of their advantages and disadvantages. Honestly the only game I am looking forward to play handled is the sims 4 so if you could ever do a video comparing how it runs on each device I would for sure be grateful and I’m sure there’s more people looking for that too! 🫶🏽🫶🏽 I’m subscribing!

For me the X is a super worthwhile upgrade over the regular Ally. I returned my original Ally. I mean I did like it overall but my analog sticks didn't feel smooth and they made a noise, wasn't a fan of the ergonomics, and the battery life just wasn't cutting it compared to my Switch OLED. Also I was a little worried about the SD card slot. The Ally X solved all of this. Yes, it's still got the same chip and the extra RAM probably isnt really worth it in most cases, but I am loving the improvements and don't regret buying mine. As a bonus it's black and I like that it doesn't stand out as much. They nailed it. I really wish it had an OLED screen but oh well, it's got VRR which honestly is more useful on a handheld than even a gaming PC.

Which one would you recommend for emulation
@KITS2JZ21 күн бұрын
Had both and returned the ally x. Legion go if you adjust the settings. You can most definitely play triple A games with the highest resolution. I have no lag or fps issues. Played cyberpunk, war zone etc. And never had any issues. Honestly runs as good as ally x.
@BizNews-bk1lhАй бұрын
Windows OS was not my thing. I ordered a steamdeck instead. Too much tinkering with the legion go. Yes the bigger screen and resolution is nice, but sort of pointless if we can't play games on it and have to downscale to 800p and then the fonts get blurry and such. Well made video!

If I only could have one, ally x with a 2TB drive and dual booted. I’m an enthusiast so I’m lucky to be able to have the deck oled and LEGO. I love them both but they are very different IMO.

I think its one of the best 8.8 lcd's out there (not far off OLED) I don't feel like I'm missing out on my long play sessions, bazzite has been a game changer running ARPG (just started D2 resurected reimaninged mod on my Legion Go and its awesome) - I have big hands too so it works well for me.

Or mini-led, is beautifully similar to oled
@crestofhonor2349Ай бұрын
It's the best and worst aspect of it. They should go for MiniLED next as that could be nice
@blastu2foolАй бұрын
Legion does not need to be Oled, Legion's display is very good and is just as good as the oled, remember Oled tends to have a lot of burning set in over time

One of the most honest videos. I was trying to find exactly such a video, but all the time got dolomitic comparisons where people don't really criticize something but say it's on your preference. You bro criticized what is to be criticized and i was so much inclined to buy legion go but now I'm either gonna wait, or gonna buy old Asus ROG Ally or new Asus Rog Ally X. I know waiting might be good because Intel ultra 2 is launched and msi is working on it's second gen console. Let's see

Cool comparison video, dude. I'm looking to get a ROG Ally X pretty soon as I am currently playing on a Steam Deck LCD, and although I enjoy playing on it, I just feel like someone is missing. Also, nit being able to play certain games because of the anti cheat software is a huge bummer. They and the in ability to use COG, Epic store, or Gamepass. So I'm choosing to go with the ROG. Keep the videos coming, bro, because you got a new subscriber.

Its wild to me that I can hear so many different opinions about armory crate. I know that personally on my Zerphyrus G14 I can't stand armory crate. It crashes both itself and my laptop. (FYI Ghelper is a godsend. Apparently works on the ally too. )

I own a LeGO and a SD. Overall: Steam Deck....If you don't know which one buy a SD OLED. My Legion Go is though the preferred device (with Bazzite installed), it's just the screen. Lenovo 2 hopefully fixes the grips with this one, but it won't be very soon, Lenovo said.
