Check out my website and post for more details and before & afters: lifeanddiy.com/rogaine-before-after-photos-hairline-5-months/ I updated it with even better & clearer photos after I posted this video. After posting the video, I decided to continue on with an experiment only using the essential oils mixture. I'll see if the hair has continued to grow by measuring it again in a month. I mentioned microneedling in the video and I wanted to share more details on that. I have done some at-home experiments with microneedling for hairline growth a couple years ago and I saw no results, surprisingly. I know many people find benefits with microneedling for hair growth, especially in combination with other treatments. I did do one microneeding treatment on my face in January during this 5 month experiment and I did the hairline then too. I used a low depth of 0.5mm, and I don't think this had a major impact on my hairline. I just wanted to disclose it, in case anyone is curious. I have seen hair growth in my eyebrows when microneedling in the past, but mostly when I used a depth of 1.0mm to 1.5mm. I've heard that if you're trying to improve hair growth on the scalp, it's better to use a depth of 1.5mm or more. It may be pretty painful though. Let me know if you have any questions!

I think it would be interesting if you first stop with Rogaine and see if the hair falls of and if it don't then stop with the oils to and see if the hair falls of. The best would be if you can take Rogaine for a couple of moths and then get permanent hair growth, maybe it's possible.

A while back, I lost most of my eyelashes, probably due to an autoimmune thing. Being a manly sort of man who eats gravel for breakfast and wrestles bears, I blubbered and bought an eyelash-growth-serum that everyone recommended on Amazon. Real men use eyelash-growth-serum, Holly. Well known fact. OK, lesser-known fact. I may have invented it. But anyways, not only did it work, it gave me eyelashes like a baby cow. I didn't have lashes like that, even when I was a baby cow. I only stopped using it because it was irritating my eyes. I share this story purely because, whatever was in that serum, it worked. And they did an eyebrow version that people also raved about. Given the small areas you are treating, I would imagine the eyebrow serum would last a fair while and, if it worked, you could definitely use it long term without the safety concerns of Rogain. Just a thought. Probably a useless one, but hey ...

Very interesting. Thank you! I’ve been using the Ordinary Hair Density Serum for a couple of years, and not really often. I wash my hair about twice a week, and I’d put it in my hair after I wash it and that’s it. I pulled my shirt over my head the other day and my hair was pulled back. I was stunned to see I had bangs! About 4 inches of a fringe that has grown. I did run it throughout my hair, and my hair dresser commented a few months back my hair is thicker. So I feel it does work for me. I’m interested in adding peppermint oil to try as well!

I've been using paul mitchell tea tree special shampoo for a long time in addition to 5% minoxidil and it works well for additional growth and comfort. It's expensive, so I'll wait for the occasional sale on the 33oz size. A small amount goes a long way and I do a whole scalp approach with it and the minoxidil. I've noticed that although my hair is a salt and pepper color now, new and existing minoxidil reprogrammed hair mostly grows in as healthier original dark hair! As far as hair loss after stopping minixidil goes, I think the loss will progress as slow or as fast as was the original underlying condition, which is different for everyone. A lot of internet noise persists for decades without explanation or newer evidence being accounted for, which is why I truly appreciate your channel and hard work!! My guess is that it would take a long time for you personally to lose any gains after stopping minoxidil.

Tom, thank you for the nice comment and for sharing your experiences! This video took a while to edit, so your words really mean a lot! I totally agree about the internet noise and lack of real information and research. So, that's why I love to experiment with these things. The tea tree shampoo sounds nice and I think I've used it years back. I met the owner of Paul Mitchell many years ago by the way, around 2002. :) He was very friendly! That's a good idea to use it on your whole scalp. I don't like to leave shampoo on my scalp for too long due to scalp issues, but I could do more of a full treatment with my oils prior to the shower or maybe once a week. Good idea. :) That's awesome to hear that your new hair growth is darker! Super interesting!

I would love to see you test out what happens when you stop taking Rogaine, I wish I could stop since it makes my hair look dry. I'm a man using the 5% version, have been for the last 15 years since by age 21 my hairline had already fallen back and the front thinned... Though I use far more than you, I use 4 dropper amounts each night (1 dropper left top side of scalp/1 on top right side/1 top front-middle/1 back crown area) i've always just rubbed it in with my finger tips no gloves and thankfully no hair growing on my fingers due to it LOL! I wash my hands immediately after. Also I used the much cheaper kirkland version instead of Rogaine because it's literally the same. I used to do this heavy dose treatment twice a day, but in the last year i learned from a youtube channel "More Plates More Dates" that because he started microneedling that the MN helps the rogaine/minoxidil absorb better and he didn't see hair thinning after reducing from twice a day to once a day and now that i'm only doing once a day I don't see hair loss happening due to it, so I plan to avoid ever doing the 2X day schedule. I will say though that your results were much better than mine, 15 years ago when I first started using it I don't recall seeing so much new growth. I did however keep using it daily as a hope to at least keep what I had even if new stuff didn't grow. So perhaps i wouldnt lose anything if I stopped since it didn't cause new to grow to begin with. However I do worry if I stopped that the receding hairline would continue it's path backwards. I also take 1mg finasteride daily which I believe is the main thing preventing my hair loss. Over the years i've used my body as a test subject like you do in your videos, it's so nice to meet a fellow warrior.

I love how thorough your videos are. I stuck with Minoxidil cuz of you, and it's working well. PS: When microneedling with pen device on skin, I have heard that dragging the pen instead of stamping causes damage, in your next microneedling video maybe if you could shed light on this.
@LifeDIY
@LifeDIY 7 ай бұрын
I am so glad it's working well for you! Can I ask you where you heard that about dragging the MN pen? The reason I ask is that I've received endless questions about that over the last month. So, I'm curious if there's a super popular video out there stating that. When I first learned about MN, I learned about it from Penny of Penn Smith Skincare (her KZbin channel) and she said it didn't matter the direction or route of moving the pen. It has not caused me any unintended damage at all. :) I will use it in more of a lifting/stamping motion in areas that are very sensitive to pain (the forehead) if it's hurting pretty badly when doing it and that mostly occurs if the depth is more than 0.5mm. I hope that makes sense!

Very noticeable growth with the Rogaine, Holly! I've heard the horror stories regarding Rogaine/Minoxidil, but as with most things, individual reactions vary...I’d be interested in seeing you continue treatments with the essential oils. As mentioned some time back, I’ve had good results with lavender & peppermint oils for my itchy flaky scalp. Maybe the oils could help some people with hair growth as well.?

My hair started thinning out due to bad health. My mom gifted me a minoxidil treatment after a friend recommended it to her. That friend being someone with a medical background, I was sure she would have told my mom about the side effects. She did not. Not only do I have 2 cats I could have killed (unaware of he fact that minoxidil is toxic for cats and dogs) but I also started to lose all my hair. I've been using minoxidil for a month and my ponytail is only half as thick as it used to be. I was told not to stop or else it wouldn't grow back. I would never use minoxidil again if I could turn back time.

I am so sorry to hear this. Did you apply it all over your head? I know that one month in, wherever I applied it, some of the hair thinned out worse and looked bad. But then it grew back in. I am not sure if that's what's going on or not. I hope yours grows back though.

@LifeDIY Thank you! I am trying not to lose hope. I started alternating between using minoxidil and a caffeine scalp serum after watching your video. I now only use minoxidil in the evening and sleep in a silk cap. I also started oiling my scalp with a sunflower oil (rich in vitamin e) and rosemary essential oil diy mixture on wash days. I wash my hair with ketoconazol shampoo. It's been maybe 5 days since I started losing significantly less hair! I would normally shed a hand full of hair when washing my hair but only lost 1/4 of that on my last wash day 2 days ago. I'll be going back to the hairdresser in a month. Last time she checked my scalp a week ago, I only had one single hair strand growing out of one hair follicle. My hair also appears very fine and fragile. Scalp is looking great though. I am hoping my efforts will help me grow 2-3 hair per follicle. I believe reducing minoxidil use to once a day and alternating between different products really was a game changer for me. Thanks for the advice 🙏

Thank you for the video. i will definitely try the essential oils for hair growth. My entire life, i used only olive oil, coconut oil, mixed oils etc for hair growth and avoided any kind of chemical stuff so i will still stay away with that product you r experimenting 😅 btw, it's not related but i just want to mention my experience with an eyelash growth product which ended up causing me a huge Chalazion on my eyelid which ive been suffering for two weeks now. it's very painful and medication treatments arent working. 😢 So ladies, maybe it's not so common but why to take even a smallest risk?? I would never ever recommend any chemical cosmetic products for any reason for anyone...
