On March 20, 1973, the Baseball Writers' Association of America held a special election for the Baseball Hall of Fame. They voted to waive the waiting period for Roberto Clemente, due to the circumstances of his death, and posthumously elected him for induction into the Hall of Fame, giving him 393 out of 424 available votes, for 92.7% of the votes. 31 were against it. Pete Rose NEVER confessed his sins. He's saying what he thinks MLB wants to hear so he can be in the HOF. I say put him in the HOF. But.... keep the lifetime ban from participating in anything. Including his HOF induction. If he wants to fully come clean, then do his part to talk to young players every spring training about gambling and be the spokesperson for what NOT to do? Then maybe let him back "in". He still feels like he did nothing wrong. It's like a dude who's sorry for cheating on his wife. He's sorry he got caught. Not sorry that he did it. I think the part the irritates me most about the complete sociopathic athlete users - the Lance Armstrongs, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens- is the extent to which they’ll throw under the bus the trainers/ suppliers who gave them steroids or HGH. Brian McNamee supplied Clemens and he supplied Andy Pettitte for the very brief time he used (on Clemenses recommendation) to recover from injury. Rocket has been telling himself this lie so long now. Thing he is, to get in now he would need to convince a committee of HOFers and his chances were much better with the sportswriters. People don't have a clue about drugs in athletics. I think people would be absolutely shocked if they actually knew who took what and how often. People need to remember, this is about money. When money is on the line, corruption is e everywhere. Just look at the 1997 & 1998 home run totals. You got chipper Jones hitting more than he ever has and a huge drop off after two seasons. Regardless of Roger's situation, The Hall of Fame is a joke. The voters have their own agendas, just like awards in any other field. To merely become a major league baseball player is the pinnacle of playing the game. Anything after is just icing on the cake. Examples of how the Hall is joke: 1) the all time hits leader is not in 2) the all time home run leader (also most MVPs all time) is not in 3) pitcher with most Cy Young awards is not in Ok, yes, these players are believed to have cheated, so they're not in. But it's still strange, right?!?! How about some more legit reasons why the Hall is stupid 4) Harold Baines is in 5) Mariano Rivera is the only player unanimously voted in. This is not to say he didn't deserve this honor. I'm just pointing out that somehow at least one voter left off their ballot the likes of Cal Ripken Jr, Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr, Rickey Henderson, Nolan Ryan, Tony Gwynn, Greg Maddux, and so many more. How dare these players not be voted in unanimously! 6) Lou Whitaker is not in, but Alan Trammell is??? Not only did they play their entire careers next to each other to form one of the greatest double play duos of all time, but their career stats are eerily similar. Yet, Sweet Lou of left out somehow? 7) Curt Schilling is not in. There is only one other eligible pitcher with over 3,000 K's not in the Hall, and it's Clemens (Verlander, Scherzer, Sabathia will all be in soon enough). Not to mention Schilling is a playoff hero, always stepping up in the biggest games. He is not liked by the press, and that shouldn't matter. His play on the field was top notch and he deserves the credit There's more of course. Add your reasons why the Hall of Fame is a ridiculous thing

Athletes are under pressure and expected to perform at a high level day in and day out. If taking drugs helps by making everyone on the team and especially those in high office happy what's the complaint about? Many Americans take some sort of drug everyday to make them perform their daily tasks which they can not do on their own. Taking drugs is the American way as so much money is invested in it. Just look at TV commercials. Besides fast food, drug commericals are in shown literally in many commercials!

Steroids were not on the banned list when he played.
@stevenmiller77475 ай бұрын
But they were illegal if not obtained from a physician for a legitimate medical reason.
@frozendivots15645 ай бұрын
@@stevenmiller7747 most got them thru Drs and even team staff.
@TwilightxKnight1327 күн бұрын
@@stevenmiller7747 what difference does that make? Driving drunk is also illegal but you don’t get banned from the HoF for doing it. Painkillers, especially opiates are illegal too without a legitimate medical condition but they are abused by a ton of players. The HoF is full of players who committed crimes. The point is, if it was not banned by baseball then it has no bearing on a player’s status.

Roger Clements is one of the greatest competitors and greatest pictures of all time but there’s no doubt he took steroids, but it was a much do about nothing because it made the game better when it needed to have a resurgence for the strike they let it happen because they needed to.

What has this guy actually contributed to the human endeavor on planet earth? Same for any "sportsman" who throws, catches, hits or kicks balls? In ancient Rome, before its demise, the people cared for nothing but "bread and circuses". Clemens (and numerous others) worked in the circuses.

Screw all the cheaters.

If everyone is doing it, it's not cheating. Only a fool would refuse to take steroids when every other star is taking them. That could cost you your job and millions due to underperformance. There are hundreds of pro athletes that would not have made it to the professional level without the use of steroids.

Roger Clemens will never get into the HOF, and even based on his numbers regardless of his rampant roid use, do not justify him being there. He sucked.
