Thiem was badly injured and did not play comperively for a long time then Covid of course .I felt so sorry for him because he was a great player in my opinion.

Nah. Fed could hang with Thiem & get to MP, even at 38 y.o. He just couldn't finish the job. He's 2-5 vs Thiem, but he had MPs twice, so it could easily have been 4-3 in Fed's favour. In any case, *Fed's DR = 1.07* despite the H2H, another one of those#onlyfedthings. Note that DT was in the Top 20 in every one of the 7 matches they played.

Roger always had trouble against heavy hitters that were consistent from the back. I remember he had much trouble against Andreev also, always extremely tight matches.

Out of roger's 5 losses against thiem, he had match points in 2 matches and IW 2019 was also a close match...so surely he isnt a nightmare..infact when thiem peaked , roger was 37...things would have been different if thiem played against 2006 roger...even 2012 roger would have handled thiem at ease...

Yeah. "Suddenly" many big-hitting players give Federer trouble when he *checks notes* is one foot into retirement after a painful back injury and knee surgery. Of course if you're healthy enough to step on the court then it's fair game, but still. Top pros play through pain more than the normal person can imagine. 2006 Roger would have 6-0 6-0 Thiem like he did to Gaston Gaudio.
