You gotta love Blake's efforts. He's giving it his all out there. There was a brief period where he had a good spell of form after all his terrible injuries. Federer was just another level to him - that flick at 4:15 highlights the difference between him and Blake. Federer always had that extra shot to get himself out of jail - whereas many at that time did not.

Such a sick kit Federer was wearing! I'd have no doubt he would have won this tournament if it wasn't for the confirmed mono he had! The freaking GOAT

Still don't think he beats Djokovic. Federer just couldn't see out the leads he had in two of those sets.

@@asdasblrhe definitely was sick in this tournament. He was sweating profusely and looked pale like a ghost. We all saw what happened once he recovered-- he completely dominated Djokovic the following year

Many players seem to have had a more attacking playing style back then. I think Federer definitely shaped modern tennis in the sense that the only way of beating him was adopting a solid baseline and controlled stance, which counter's Roger constant toying of his opponents. It's no coincidence that Djokovic's main improved attributes over the years are his stability and flexibility, which allows him to maintain a high tempo and keep rallies going for longer. In his early years he also had a more attacking style, similar to Blake's here, which fit right into Federer's playground. I think that's what makes interesting some of the current crop of modern players, especially Sinner and Alcaraz. They appear to have the perfect combination of keeping a high tempo and maintaining rally pace, but they also engage in attacking tennis. They were definitely shaped in the image of mid 2000's Roger, while also addressing Djokovic's strong physicality and stability.

This tournament was the start of the end for Federer. He looked vulnerable after Tipsarevic's match and the strange losses in 2007.

Start of the end? He was one of the top players in the world for many many years after 2008 lol
@masters.1000Ай бұрын
@@tommycrowley8668 It was the end of his prime. He was practically unbeatable before that. Tipsarevic was the first player outside the Top 10 who made him play 5 sets since 2001.

In terms of dominance, perhaps. In terms of tennis the 2017 ao fed was amazing and honestly would've challenged prime fed due to improved backhand

If by start of the end, you mean a gradual fall from #1 to #2, whilst still having a 24-3 record in the Slams that year then yeah, sure
