I’ve been watching tennis since Borg was starting out and I have never seen a match with such power behind every shot. Despite the occasional insane Roger drop shot (including one on a service return) they both were hitting incredibly hard and deep. What separated Federer from Blake was his ability to place the shots exactly where he wanted them, regardless of how powerfully hit, and his total and complete mastery of the geometry of a tennis court. Roger is GOAT imho, no question.

I think that was part of the problem for Blake. The harder and flatter you hit, the better Federer likes it. He can deflect back all the pace and use it against you. The players Federer struggles against tend to be people who can really grind him down and make him work. Great retrievers who can get the ball up high on federer's backhand, push him back with topspin and blunt his game.

What he struggles with is not when his opponents don't give him pace, what he struggles with is: A) Having his forehand side attacked with sharp angles (since 2012,2013) B) High bouncing top spin balls to his backhand. The people who really tend to bother him are those who don't try and overpower him, as Blake did here, but who "blunt" his game. I remember watching this match live, and thinking that Blake would’ve beat anyone else on the tour that night. Roger in his prime was a jaw-droppingly, majestic beast to watch. I’m glad I got to witness it. Like a lot of people, I had no idea who Roger was when Agassi played him in the final, and when Roger went “beast mode” on Agassi to win the match, I was glued to every match Roger played. They beat him in his prime too... 2007 onwards rafa and in 2008 briefly and then from 2010 on regularly nole. What age are rafa and nole now !!?? Did u see the drop in gs counts now !!? In fact they are on rampage now !! There will be a dip in peak in 30s i agree.. it came up a lil bit too early in rogers case.. any idea why !!??
