Roger Livesey and Roland Culver perform a scene from the 1974 BBC TV series, The Pallisers. They had both appeared in scenes from Powell & Pressburger's classic film The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp some 30 years ealier.

Of course I can't get enough of Roger Livesey but I am amazed by how much Roland Culver remind me of John Hurt.

Yes, Roland Culver does have a distinctive timbre which is similar to John Hurt's. Perhaps the result of actors' voice training which caused their tones to converge. He also resembles him physically somewhat. Roger Livesey of course had a permanently hoarse voice, which could never be described as beautiful! The actor Cecil Parker had a similar "defect" which he also used to great effect.

We loved watching this on '70s NYC public television, and discussed it at the office next day. I worked for a British South African scientist, who told us "my mother named me Fleur after a character in a book of Galsworthy's."

‘The Drum’ is one of my favorites. ‘Green Grow the Rushed’, and Vice-Versa showed his comic genius.
