Many years ago I was at a country meeting place in Nashville. It was a house where musicians hung out. I was with my Uncle, Fred Foster, who was a legend in the Country Music world. Roger Miller came in and sat down and started talking. He said “I have recorded a song today and if this is not a hit I will quit this business and go back to Oklahoma”. Someone said sing it! He went out to his car, got his guitar, came back in and sung “King of the Road”. Everyone stood and applauded. It was his greatest hit ever. Will never forget that.

I was going through my Father's Albums and saw Roger Milllers great hits. Wow, talk about memories. My Dad was an alcoholic ditch digger. Then he got sober when I was 4. Became a great man, passed away living on a golf course in OC. I did'nt realize until today, Roger Miller songs were his story.

Roger is one of my favorite country/western/folkish songwriters. Nothing he wrote didn't sound like he hadn't lived it, from this to King of the Road to England Swings. He made a story of every song, with heart, humor, and a certain homey eloquence. To me, that's the heart and soul of what this music is about.

I can never get enough of Roger Miller! He was the greatest! I remember hearing "Dang Me!" when it first was played on AM radio (ca. 1964). Went to the record store and bought it! My mother thought I was crazy, but my dad loved it! Good ole dad bought me my first guitar so I could (hopefully) perform and sing like Roger Miller! Still trying after 57 years.

This was the first song that I listened to in 1964 just after my best friend and I had a fist fight and parted ways ..we were the same age and had known each other since we were 2 years old ...we have not spoken to each other for 55 years now .. what a shame ...

I remember my older half brother getting a 45 lp of this song in 1964 & playing it on a portable table-top record-player with 4 speeds, 16/33/45 & 78 with vacuum tubes & my father would laugh himself silly at the chorus when Roger would sing "dang me, dang me"!!!! Funny how I remember that all these years!!!!!!

I was 15 years-old when this song first played on the radio and it took everyone by storm! It hit like lightening! We teenage boys loved it and so did the older guys. He spoke the truth back then when you didn't hear too much of that on the radio. The sounds he made during the song, and it's content back in 1964 caught us all by surprise and we loved it! We had never heard anything like it.

My uncle, Johnny Bishop, was Roger’s commanding officer in the Army Special Services entertainment unit. Other unit members, all of whom regularly travelled together, were Star Trek’s Leonard Nimoy, Mayberry RFD and F- Troop’s Ken Berry. Most of them stayed in touch after their Army years.

I bought the box set King of the road, The Genius of Roger Miller many years ago. Before listening to that I had incorrectly pegged him as a novelty singer. After listening to all 3 discs I realized he was a great Country singer and songwriter. The song "Less & Less" really got me. I had never heard it before and I was just blown away. Simple words combined in a way that just floored me. Roger has so many songs like that.

I used to listen to Roger Miller as a kid. “Dang Me”, “You Can’t Roller Skate In Buffalo Herd”, and “England Swings” come to mind. It really gets me down that you can’t hear Roger Miller on country music and pop radio stations anymore. Maybe on Sirius Radio. Name one other artist who took home six Grammys one year and five Grammys the next year. You can’t. It’s impossible. Roger Miller was somebody who comes along just once in a blue moon. Kind of like Elvis Presley.

Was doing the tourist thing in Hollywood about 1977, came up to a stop sign and told my wire "I think that's Roger Miller" next to us. He was riding a moped. She said that no, it couldn't be, Roger Miller wouldn't be riding a moped. we came up to another stop sign and I said I really think it is Roger Miller. She said I don't think so. Pulled up to a 3rd stop sign and I told her to roll the window down and say hi. She did and Roger turned, smiled and said "Hidy", in that unmistakable Roger Miller voice. We both immediately said, yep, that's Roger Miller!
