Roger was a natural songwriter with a lot of heart. The fact that he was so popular is a testament to how different the country and the world were back then. The stuff that sells now is heartless and angry. Hopefully that’s changing with younger artists.

@Allen Elman, you are so fortunate to have known Roger. He is one of the few celebrities I wish I could have met and gotten to know. I'd just love to know what made him tick, and hear some late night stories from him. I was lucky enough to meet and have a chat with Kris Kristofferson before a gig a few years ago but I never had the sense to ask him about Roger. One of my few regrets!

I've read some of the funny things he said and I never forget them. Police Officer: Can I see your driver's license? Roger: Sure. Can I play with your gun? Friend: Did you hear? So-and-so was born again. Roger: That must have been hard on his mother Roger: My education was Korea, Clash of ’52 Any thoughts of writing a book about your friendship with Mr. Miller?

Social commentary through lyrics was super intense back then in 68. The reality behind personal pride embodied in the song "Husbands and Wives" and "Mr. Business Man" by Ray Stevens was as strong as anything coming from the Beatles or Dylan.

Find me a talent like Roger Miller in the here and now. You're liable to be looking a while, and you might find that you're looking in vain ... because the man was a one-off and no mistake, as well as being a singular treasure. We miss you, Roger.

I liked the way he fixed his hair after removing his hat; he didn't want a little hat to ruin his image, Roger Miller's good face.

Roger Miller was the definition of a "Stinker"! Well - that made 2 of a Kind right there. Had to be one of the best liked guys in the business - was on everyone's friends list - from Waylon, Wille to Dean and Frank - The man has that "Charles Groden look" (slight smile - eyes and mouth - You just know he's been up to no-good) The very kind of man that I was always attracted to - and BFFs w as well - God Bless those Stinkers - Life would have just stale w/o em! ;-)
@TheKiller-yh3pi5 жыл бұрын
Well they may look similar but Roger’s schtick at its worst was still a lot funnier than Charlie Grodin at his best haha! Seriously though as many times as I’ve seen Grodin on Johnny Carson, he’s not that funny at least insofar as improv type-of stuff goes..decent actor though sure I’ll give him that.

@patriotpatriot4737 жыл бұрын
Surple...The only word I ever heard that rhymed with purple.
@roadkill18117 жыл бұрын
Easy one! It does in-fact mean syrup. I heard this one all the time growing up. My parents, who were young adults when "Dang Me" was released, said it all the time. So did their friends. All of whom had grown up in East Tennessee during the 50's and 60's. Incidentally, Miller was starting his career out of Nashville in the mid 50's, fresh from the Army and Korea. If I had to venture a guess, I'd wager it was a term Miller picked up from his time living in Tennessee
