Roger Penrose - Bridging Consciousness, Quantum Physics & The Universe
Subscribe to Science Time: / sciencetime24
Roger Penrose is a renowned mathematician and physicist who has made significant contributions to the fields of quantum physics, cosmology, and the study of the mind. In his lecture titled "Bridging Consciousness, Quantum Physics & The Universe," Penrose discusses the intersection of these three fields and proposes a new theory of consciousness that is grounded in the principles of quantum mechanics.
At the heart of Penrose's theory is the idea that consciousness arises from the collapse of quantum wave functions in the brain. According to Penrose, this collapse creates a fundamental connection between the macroscopic world of human experience and the microscopic world of quantum physics. He argues that this connection is responsible for the emergence of consciousness as we know it.
Throughout his lecture, Roger Penrose draws on examples from mathematics, physics, and neuroscience to support his arguments. He also delves into the concept of the "unconscious mind" and how it relates to his theory of consciousness.
Overall, Roger Penrose's lecture provides a thought-provoking exploration of the nature of consciousness and its relationship to the quantum world and the universe at large. His ideas challenge traditional assumptions about the mind and offer a new perspective on the mysteries of human experience.

The neuronal structure of the brain, with its filaments, pathways, connecting nuerons, reminds me of the cosmic web connecting the galaxies of the universe! We have yet to discover what that really is, how it actually works. The quantum physics world might well give us great insight into how consciousness comes into being, the ideas of Roger Penrose are incredibly interesting! Researching AI might enable us to make new, groundbreaking, scientific discoveries, in the field of neuroscience, and also cosmology.

My cerebellum was nicked while undergoing brain 🧠 surgery 😳 Prior to this medical emergency, my personality was "frozen" for lack of a better description. I was an unconscious workaholic. I never had a sense of humor. Following recovery from brain surgery, my personality changed. Was it the anesthesia or the nicked cerebellum that brought me out of a delusional (?) state of being? After waking up 6 - 8 weeks later, I could laugh for seemingly the first time in my life. The laughter was inflated in the beginning, yet over time ⏲️ it normalized. Now, I own the capacity to giggle and laugh easily. ❤ Tell me why, please.

It sounds as if your understanding of consciousness is different than my understanding. Consciousness to most is knowing they are alive, able to think. Yet others have another understanding based on depth psychology. These divergent views create gross miscommunication, 😝 slowing down all related research. One group needs to remove themselves so work can progress, instead of being locked 🔒 in divergent thought - which is the current state of the proxy war Unraveling in Ukraine. This is very old research (1990s) - whilst I really love the idea of Orch-OR, Max Tegmark showed the flaws in the quantum theory, and Penrose accepted that the Penrose-Hameroff model of Orch-OR was not valid. However, we would be idiots to assume that the human body does not interact with the universe at a quantum level. Our eyes, for example, can detect a single photon, which in itself is a quantum package. It has been shown that our noses use quantum probability to detect and identify smells - so why _shouldn't_ consciousness be a product of quantum physics? And why shouldn't we interact with the universe at a quantum level?

I'm sure that further research has addressed these flaws. Like I said before, I like the idea of Orch-OR, and it would be foolish to ignore that our brains can function at quantum-physical levels. Virtual particles aren’t real, they were a fiction to make the mathematics work for Feynman diagrams and permutations in particle physics, look into how working more geometrically through discovery of geometric structures such as the amplituhedron remove the need for virtual particles and suggest there is an underlying structure behind quantum mechanics and spacetime from which these phenomena emerges, what this structure is that is more fundamental is yet to be determined! 😊 this relates to twistor theory which Penrose himself came up with! What if the universe were better explained by four unimensions rather than three dimensions? Unimensions could be arranged tetrahedrally to describe all of space. Time is no longer needed to describe a space/time continuum. Time could be our perception of space as a result of quantum consciousness. We would have only to accept that there is no moving back and forth in space, but that space could be adequately described in terms moving continually forward.

Brain - Mind ----- Our brain works on a dualistic basis: usually consciousness and rarely subconsciousness. ------ 1 - Consciousness of the brain works on various electromagnetic energy fields (alpha, beta, . . . etc.) An electroencephalogram (EEG) can record this ''normal logical'' electrical activity of the brain (brain works as computer - "Turing Machine") 2 - Subconsciousness is process on micro-quantum-level (brain suddenly takes a new decision / action - "eureka") The reason of unconscious process is quantum particle . Suggestion: According to the Pauli Exclusion Principle, only one (1) electron can manage an atom, molecule, cell, brain. ----- a) Quantum process appears when all atoms of brain are in Bose-Einstein state (superfluidity). b) Then the electron gains strength to ''superconductivity'' and can change the old brain's program to a new decision - "eureka". New decision is result of - a "Self-quantum particle". c) After a short moment- "eureka" the brain again works like a computer. (but according to a new program) =====. ''The laws of quantum mechanics itself cannot be formulated ... without recourse to the concept of consciousness.'' - Eugene Wigner # Book: ‘'The Holographic Universe’' ''Contrary to what everyone knows it is so, it may not be the brain that produce consciousness, but rather consciousness that creates the appearance of the brain'' / page 160, by Michael Talbot / # “… Indeed an understanding of psi phenomena and of consciousness must provide the basis of an improved understanding of quantum mechanics. ” / Evan Walker / ======.

How bizarre that as humans and with all our knowledge we can create complex things, but nowhere near as complex as something that appeared by chance (our brains). Like imagine if a particle accellerator appeared from nothing, that would be weird and unlikely but its still not as complex as our brains, which were even more unlikely. The process to replicate it seems so simple as well, just a sperm and an egg. Not some precise lab experiment, just something two people can do. Whatever the origins of consciousness and the universe are, they must be so unbelievably strange they're beyond comprehension.
@rocroc
@rocroc Жыл бұрын
A sperm and an egg and 4.54 billion years development since the earth was created and 13.7 billion years since the universe was created. Starting with a plasma flow of about 4 trillion degrees Celsius subsequently producing hydrogen then other lighter element to heavier element through to metals and the heaviest elements. All of those elements coalescing within our brain to form electronic impulses that formulate memory and consciousness. Unfortunately, AI is a tiny fractional development that if left unchecked can presume more than it really is. From my perspective, I don't ever want to subjugate human intelligence to that of mechanical intelligence. It has to work for you and not against you and your children and all of human kind.

It seems to me, this search for a concise definition for consciousness' has turned a simple concept into perhaps an over-thought and over complicated explanation. To me consciousness in the neurological sense is how our brains operate, have experiences and interact with our physiology and thus with the world around us. In short, its a side affect of complex brain functions. To make such a fuss of brain functions we ARE aware of while glossing over all the rest always seemed backwards to me and still does.

Every part of the body Has its own psychology and brain And is a twenty four hour interpreter By changing cellular memory You change the psychology Of the body Memory is not only something that we store in some mysterious way in our brains. Even in our brain a huge percentage of memory is sub-conscious or completely unconscious.only a small percentage of our overall brain memory is conscious,meaning if we make an effort we can remember.it’s is said this conscious part includes not more than 10 percent of our experiences. Seperate from that,another much more important part of our memory is stored in our bodies.Each muscly,each organ,each cell,each molecule,each atom and smaller has its own memory-memory in the sense that certain experiences we go through will have their very specific and own effect and imprint in the bodies biochemistry . Each of our emotions, whether negative or positive, causes the release of a particular composition of hormones,enzymes or other biochemical fluids. Quantum mechanics is more compatible with Leibniz's relational view of the universe than Newton's absolute view of the universe. In Newton's absolute view, space and time are absolute and independent entities that exist on their own, independent of the objects and events that take place within them. This view implies that there is a privileged observer who can observe the universe from a neutral and objective perspective. On the other hand, Leibniz's relational view holds that space and time are not absolute, but are instead relational concepts that are defined by the relationships between objects and events in the universe. This view implies that there is no privileged observer and that observations are always made from a particular point of view. Quantum mechanics is more compatible with the relational view because it emphasizes the role of observers and the context of measurement in determining the properties of particles. In quantum mechanics, the properties of particles are not absolute, but are instead defined by their relationships with other particles and the measuring apparatus. This means that observations are always made from a particular point of view and that there is no neutral and objective perspective. Overall, quantum mechanics suggests that the universe is fundamentally relational rather than absolute, and is therefore more compatible with Leibniz's relational view than Newton's absolute view.

Actually humans aren’t the only ones have consciousness, all animal kingdom has the same consciousness as well. Just for that reason they are able to defend themselves from predators. How usually consciousness works, when brain receives negative force through eyes, by the way all scientists know our eyes are sensors easily we can pick up others negative force from the distance, obviously not all humans have that but the most do to my understanding consciousness is like to be aware of surroundings, just for that reason animals always on high levels of alertness, the main force within each living thing like scavengers looking out for food which is another form of energy. As soon as living beings feel weak looking out for something to increase their energy levels. Like the brain connected to each body cells and it sensing what is happening through out the body, here is where brain start to show ability to remember places or the food they eat to sustain themselves. If you guys noticed all animals do dreams like humans do, usually access foods within stomach effects the brain positively or negatively what dreams we see or animals as well. Consciousness is to be alert for self defense. That is how alien species control humans when they are ready to abduct them they stop energy flows from brain to cells, humans most of time they can see and hear but have no control of their own minds. their brain is blocked from communicating with rest of the body

There is no such thing as "instantaneous momentum[/mass/velocity]" or "instantaneous position[/location]". (Oh, those endlessly bifurcating complementarities.) These are mathematical abstractions invented by we humans for sensory-environmental mapping purposes. The "wave function" is a mathematical device, invented by we "homo sapiens" (I suggest we revise that to the less self-congratulatory and more technically accurate linguistic indicator and index "homo carta") to linguistically encode and share with our fellow species members our sensory-observationally derived 'on-board maps' (a.k.a. "concepts") of what I propose is in fact the pure self-relative motion (a.k.a. "acceleration"; a.k.a. "energy"; a.k.a. "push" -- i.e. what you "feel") of what is otherwise an absolutely continuous and scale-uniform hyper-fluid medium (SUM), which Einstein indirectly identified as "spacetime", and whose overall and most elementary geometry of 'acceleration-flow' is that of a frictionlessly 'self-siphoning' (if you will) horn toroidal fluid vortex (HTV), a.k.a. a "black hole". … Over "time", this 'self-sustaining' geometry has recursively 'self-fractalized' into the architecture of a distributed network of 'particulate' I/O 'devices' that we "see" as particulate mass objects (PMO's). 'Shaped space shapes space' (if you will). "Consciousness" is a feedback loop - and more specifically, a self-organizing (a.k.a. self-configuring; a.k.a. self-constructing) feedback circuit comprised by this network, and mediated by "electromagnetic radiation" (a.k.a. "light") propagating at/as an asymptotic velocity limit of accelerated motion amongst these PMOs. The self-relative "direction" of SUM flow not taken into account as such by our current "standard model" of physics is the point-radial (which we can self-consistently [with our current terminology] describe as the 4th spacetime) "dimension". Take that into account, and the rest falls into place (see what you can do with it). Why are the "universal constants" what they are? Because that's what works. ... 'The more tools I have, the more tools I can build. I build with what I have already built. I am the _process_ of building myself' (again, if you will). Welcome to 'The Graviton'.
