Long post coming. I wrote some notes about Glad a while back as I'm writing a study on organised crime and capitalism and Glad has guests that give some insight into various areas of interest, but I always have to note if something came from this channel, because it can not be cited as a source - I have to go and find details of trials and whatnot. Anyway, Glad is a terrible journalist. Journos would kill for that story about the lion, which would be yet more evidence in showing just how gruesome the narcos are. And it would've ended up in another show like Narcos (although off-camera obv). But Glad just skips over it, like it was nothing! An illegally imported lion eating the baby of a maid of a drug queenpin is basically a story that sums up just how sick the players in the drug game are, and how their opulence is directly tied to the most hellish violence imaginable, but Glad can't see it. He's so far removed from reality that he completely glosses over the story of a baby being eaten by a lion! Seriously, the dude just comes across like a privileged kid who has an obsession with criminality and has his little voyeuristic set up because he gets off on the whole thing. I heard that he even interviews people via a screen, like Zoom style - is that true? Because that just adds to it. And didn't he get beaten up by Rick Ross (the fake one) and so has to hire an entourage? Imagine getting a beating from a former CO who made a rap career by stealing the name of an actual drug dealer, who is actually a really smart and interesting guy! Next he'll be getting a beating from DJ Khaled. And before someone comes in with the old "why do you watch his videos then?" - you know the answer already: he gets good guests. Every now and then an interview pops up with someone who is of interest to me, like this guy, given that I'm writing a study on the role of the drug trade and other elements of OC within global capitalism. But Glad just ruins it. Sometimes, you can see the guests actually wanting to punch him (through the screen ofc!). He either pays them well or they do it for the exposure, which is basically payment if they are promoting something. But if his parents didn't get him set up with his decks and equipment and then his studio, and if he had to start from the bottom like the people he has a hard-on for (i.e. people from the streets), he would never have gotten a job as a journalist through talent. This guy clearly owes a lot to luck and I don't care what he or anyone else says. Here are some facts about DJ Vlad, AKA DJ Glad, AKA DJ Val (AKA DJ Gladys): 1) He is obsessed with - and terrified of - Suge Knight. 2) He is obsessed with homosexuality, whether in prisons, or just within gang culture in general, which is the literal embodiment of "curiosity" if you catch my drift. 3) He is incredibly naive. I've heard him actually say "one of my Crip homies..." in a sentence once and actually, physically cringed. He takes people at face value and never calls them out on their BS. Check out that interview he did with the fake mobster. Guy with the moustache - Anthony Raimondo or something, who told a story as if he was the Forrest Gump of the Italian-American Mob. I reckon that guy was playing a character, parodying the wave of mobsters-turned-youtubers and, if so, its a work of genus, but DJ Gladys didn't question a single thing he said. He took every word as gospel. That is the OPPOSITE of proper journalism. 4) He comes from a privileged background but has a hard-on for anything to do with criminality and exploits some of the more negative elements of hip-hop in particular. I'm not a massive hip-hop head. I love some of the music but find so much of it to be full of negativity and just fake: fake gangsters, putting on an image to sell records. It is just branding and marketing. But of course, some of them get big and want to play "gangsta" like Tekashi, the idiot with the rainbow hair. And so the local set "take him in", rinse him for his money, exploit him and live off of him so that he can claim their name/colours/all that stupid BS. But then it gets real and he snitches on everybody and apparently is still walking around. Sadly, this goes back to Tupac, who should never have gotten involved in the actual politics of rival street gangs. He didn't need to, he was making money and he was an intelligent guy - the son of a Black Panther FFS! But he threw that punch and we all know the rest. Eazy E called them out on it all the way back before Tupac even came up: studio gangsters. But the point is, DJ Gladys gets these various rappers on and gets all excited over these little "beefs" - "did you hear that 'Gangsta Rapper A' called out 'Gangsta Rapper B' on Snapchat for some stupid, pointless, phoney gangsta BS?" or "Do you think Suge Knight will ever get out of prison?" or "tell me about the gay stuff you witnessed during your sentence?" like a 12 year old kid, and you can see the guests cringe at him, at least when they themselves are the real deal. But yeah, he gets good guests, and I don't see how he does except for money/exposure.
