I was in a cover band years ago. We finished a set and took a break. Before I could get out from behind my drum set a guy started yelling, " hit your snare drum". He wanted a friend to hear how awesome y snare sounded. So I grabbed a stick and hit it several times. The guy was noticeably disappointed. He said " it sounded different, better a few mins ago. The guitarist in my band realized what was going on and said, "do that Roger Taylor thing". So I grabbed both sticks and did the Roger Taylor thing. Roger, as he plays along often eases off the pedal of the hi hat on the upbeat when he hits the snare, adding a "pshhht" type sound to the snare. It's a great trick in case you've never tried it. Roger, great drummer, singer songwriter musician.

Like all the other Queen members, Roger is an outstanding and unique musician in whole rock history! You can always recognize his style even if you don't know he played it! I think, his amazing drumming talent and uniqueness comes from his being a song-writer. Some people think who made Queen the greatest band of all time are Freddie and Brian, believe me gentleman; take Roger out of the Queen, there's no Queen! Or John as well!
@angelagautreauxbarnes48477 жыл бұрын
When I started listening to them, no one knew their individual names, I was downright picked on for liking them! I said it then & I'll say it now...QUEEN is made up of 4 musical geniuses!! They all wrote KILLER songs, they all were awesome musicians, and they all brought out the best in each other! They all would have made it on their own, I think, & am so grateful they did it together! Roger Taylor is the sexiest drummer that ever lived, too! Lol! He got my 12 yr old heart revving, & it's been revving for 42 yrs, now! Lol

He is 'half the sonic volcano' that is the rhythm section of Queen. (Overall, the best LIVE rock band ever. Other criteria may be up for discussion depending on taste, but for live shows, they are simply unmatchable & unbeatable. This, is out of debate.)

Great video, I got so excited that I shrieked a little when Milllionaire Waltz came on (I'm weird, I know....) but it saddened me that this ended before Dragon Attack. Anyone who was lucky enough to see them live in 80 or 82 knows how great Roger and John sounded on it... and the Game album made his drums sound like perfection on every track... He was KILLING it around that time. Great compilation. Thanks!

Roger led me to Bonham so definitely one of my earliest influences and that press roll on Killer Queen still gives me shivers. Also nice little mini solo at the end of Now I'm Here. I dislike drum solos. Moby Dick should have killed the solo off. Glad you included the fills from Killer Queen. They are the one thing that puts him in with the drumming greats like Bonham's crossover triplet on Dazed and Confused. Fills are nice but most people could play them now but those rolls on Killer Queen stand up to intense scrutiny and would sort the wheat from the chaff.

Very underrated drummer but quite honestly I don't think he cares about long protracted drum solos just putting in the right sound, dynamics, subtlety required by the song. He has singing, song writing ability & can knock of decent rhythm guitar aswell, That would get him in any band just for that alone, The Cross where a great band of his own making He is the complete package but my only gripe is the Queen Lambert thing just doesn;t work for me when you only have 2 original members left, that's all.
@harlowrioux57905 жыл бұрын
He talks now and again about his intense dislike for protracted drum solos. "Self-indulgent" is a word he uses to describe it. Also "boring." I love that about him. His thought process is so different from what people assume drummers love to do. Obviously, he'll do a solo, now and again, but they have a specific purpose-such as spotlighting the timpani -the control he has in letting the audience hear such a wide range of sound and emotion coming from them is impressive.

He taught himself when he’s parents bought him a couple of drums. He has said he doesn’t sight read music but he would had to learn to sheet music during his brief stint at the cathedral school in Truro as his was on a choir scholarship so would have knowledge even if he rarely used it and is rusty

Arlitta Rodriguez there is no need to be such a pendant just say thank you or move on. Roger is often described that way by journalists so that’s where the quotes come from.
@heatherqualy91435 жыл бұрын
Chill, smart a$$. There is a big difference between being a musical drummer and a technical drummer. Ringo is also considered a musical drummer. They play by feel, and don’t try to take over the song. They play as much or as little as each song needs. There are other drummers that could blow them out of the water, technically, but their sound is more clinical and sterile sounding.
