Amused To Death is Roger Waters' masterpiece....as quintisencial as Dark Side Of The Moon, and as lyrically biting as Animals, Amused To Death is my favourite album ever, it got me through some tough times and kept me going when i thought i had nothing else to give; this album pulled me back from the brink of suicide....i'm probably living now soley because of this album. I really can't praise it enough, just listen to it, let it grow on you, seep into your veins and enjoy.

@@ryanmartin3248 I agree with you Ryan, Amused To Death is a very highly produced album. Lyrically it's powerful, thought provoking, contemporary and stands the test of time. Musically it's ambience is a mainstay throughout the album creating a somewhat sombre atmoshere with moments of extremely powerful and beautiful music; it captures your heart and mind and whisks you off on a self exploration of morality, empathy and purpose. Everyone has their own interpretation of course, though the album's themes have mass appeal in an unusual melancholic way. Brilliant album 👍

I'm not very much into Roger's solo career except for this album. Pros and Cons... meh... Radio Kaos... good but not excellent. Is this the life... meh again. But ATD...it's perfect. Probably my fav album ever. I bought it 3 times since it came out in 1992 by the fact that I somehow lost the first CD and borrowed to someone else the second who didn't return it to me. It's still absolutely actual almost 30 years after its release. I think that a great part of the quality comes from Pat Leonard.

@@zooropaforever Amused To Death is arguably just as culturaly relevant as it was upon release. It's themes are so on point it could have been written yesterday and no-one would probably notice. An album for all times, and a masterpiece for the ages.

Roger nailed it. What a prescient album! He predicted politics as entertainment and now we have a reality TV President. This album is criminally underappreciated, as good musically, lyrically, and conceptually as anything released under the Pink Floyd brand name.

A true artists artist. A musicians musician. I too am a bassist singer songwriter. And a big improvisational artist. The idea of going into a studio and running tape and whatever comes out is epic and exactly how I play. You have to be at a certain level of craftsmanship on your chosen Instrument of creativity to be able to do this. My way is I find a good drummer first of all. You will only be as good as your drummer. If you have a drummer who can steer the boat into uncharted waters. Well that’s when things get interesting, your able to do stuff on your instrument that makes you play and sound WAY better. So get yourself a GREAT drummer. Music can literally open your heart and bring the jewels of your youth back into your eyes.

I waited for this album in agony from 88 til when it came out in september of 92. Played that cd all the time through that fall and Winter of 92/93. Really the soundtrack of my life in that period because on parallell to playing this album I ate and picked quite a few mushrooms. The smell of shrooms reminds me instantly of this album, even today. I will buy the New Version on cd for the 5.1 and see if it is Worth the effort. Any difference whatsoever and I will notice because I played this album to Death. I am into vinyl but dislike double albums for the sake of inconvenince. Have thousands of LPs and I think I will preorder the Picture disc for sake of owning it. The cd though will be my listening vantage point. Cds done the right way are the best buy. Lots of Music for not too much Money and I read every Version of amused to Death 2015 will be 5.1. People who missed this in 92 really have something to look forward to. That is the best thing about this release. I didn`t miss a thing. Most other People did. I bought the single of what god wants prior to the album in 92 and back then I had the Choice of vinyl or cd for the album and history has proved that I should have bought a hundred copies of the vinyl because it sells for a thousand bucks Sealed. Had them there right in front of me in september 1992 at 20 bucks a piece.

Colin Tench I doubt that many of the current crop of hipster music reviewers online and at magazines will understand the meaning of the lyrics. You see most of them are painfully shallow and stupid people who need for things the be spelled out to them in the simplest way possible, which is why they heap praise on drivel like Hozier''s take me too church and Meghan Trainor's tuneless trash. Anything that speaks at a more intellectual level just goes right over their heads and they complain in their reviews about it being "too complex" or "impenetrable" and then write it off as "pretentious" or "overburdened with themes and ideas that it doesn't make understandable"

mujin70 How is anything worse man? That's such BS. I'm not a big Trump fan, but you do understand that the other primary candidates were just as fake, corrupt and dangerous as he is? The world will always be polluted by a certain amount of hate and ugliness man. That's just the nature of a planet full of societies that each have a different perspective on life. It doesn't make me happy that it exists either, but does it always come down to blaming certain political parties or ideas? It may be true that there are hateful ideas out there, but let's take a look at sectarian violence in the middle east, Assad against his own citizens, inner city violence and black on black crime in America. Left and right wing groups have been responsible for wars and all kinds of bad ideas. I'm not pulling for either, but what I am saying is you do yourself a disservice by believing a president is some evil monster that will destroy mankind. That is silly propaganda spread by bias media. Right wing media did it to Obama, left wing media does it to Trump. Everything is partisan bias now, the truth is seldom what we are being told by both politicians and the out of control free press. It just drives me crazy, Obama was a dangerous dictator that was going to institute Martial Law according to right wing activists. What happened? Nothing. Trump isn't Hitler, he's just a rich old windbag constrained by checks and balances like each president before him.

Apparently this interview was done on February 21, 1992 ? Strange since he talks about the "early 90s" at the beginning, still ongoing really, and also because I remember buying the album in September 1992, didn't remember it being delayed like that? Although as someone pointed out in a comment below it was more or less first announced in late 1987 in Rolling Stone Magazine when they said he'd gone to Nassau to cut "Radio KAOS II"...and then a book came out in 1991 where they mentioned the title "Amused To Death" with a cover of three gentlemen (PF of course) sipping cocktails...

The interviewer got that lyric all wrong. He was not crying to ignore history, what he was saying is that the religious monkey doesn't give a shit about history. It is a criticism to creacionist views and the contradictions of religion, at least those who think "I don't have common ancestry to apes/monkeys". All the monkey has to do in order to wash his sins is to clean his hands in holy writing, and then he can turn his back to the garden (of eden) and go to the nearest town, filled with sins, polution, corruption... The way Roger writes is perfect, the acid critics on religions is superb done in this lyrics.

I believe it's Jim Ladd, an LA dj who toured with Roger, playing the dj on Radio KAOS.

It's funny to see Roger with long hair but all grey. If he dyed or cut his hair, he would be 50x better in the 80's to the 90's.

Half the songs on ATD are great, the other half aren’t very good. Same goes for the Wall. Gilmour did all the guitar parts including the bass on the studio recordings of Animals and The Wall. The great Jeff Beck plays guitar parts on some of the ATD songs.

That's it, Roger hates music videos(when he is doing them) in all.

it's just the idea that a guy who makes music and music videos saying they're bad seems counter-intuitive. I agree completely, though. Some music videos really enhance the song, but for the most part I feel it's better to let the listener conceptualize their own imagery, to interpret the song as it pertains to their life/mood. And specifically to Roger's point, when they're all back to back it's just fluff. Just another product.
