The drive to compete is an ancient instinct that far predates the evolution of humanity. Cooperation, on the other hand, is a less ancient instinct, and far more special (though not limited to) humanity. We do have some very ancient instincts, but we also have some less ancient ones - ones that allowed us to survive the African Savannah when we were surrounded by Lions, Leopards, Hyena, Hippos, etc. Those instincts were about cooperation, and empathy. It is not human nature to be competitive to the point of destruction. We have that instinct, but we have uniquely human instincts that give us a less destructive option. Humanity is not evil. It must simply rise above the instincts of some of its ancestors, and embrace those things which are uniquely human - cooperation, empathy, compassion.

I'm not sure that competition is an 'instinct' or EVER was an instinct. Neither is cooperation an 'instinct'. They are both learned behaviours. Many societies have no competitive behaviour at all. Music and dance,etc., are not competitive. As children we are taught cooperation LONG before competition, in fact we'd do well if adults would just stay out of it. Power structures get involved and warp ALL those things.

Conflict belongs to the adult. No it's not as simple as a soccer match or a potato. Maturity brings many prizes , one is restraint the next is contemplation. Boxing life in what suits your view is very very easy. Understanding the difference is growth.

Having an opinion and voicing that on a public forum is competition, especially if you believe your view is the only one. Also an incorrect view can be damaging. Maybe not assault with a bat but society is impacted by words from celebs. Just look at what trump did with a few tweets and a few hours on fox.
