Dogs of War, Terminal Frost, and Sorrow were all good songs. Radio Kaos just sounded overproduced and trying too hard to be trendy in the way it sounded. Even Waters himself said he wasn't satisfied with the album.

Bitching about who is better Waters or Gilmour is pathetic. They both have their unique qualities and thankfully those qualities carry on over to their solo work. When I want something soft and melodic I turn to Gilmour(and Wright) if I want quality lyrics with a kick ass bass I turn to waters. For me whenever one of these geniuses makes a new album it's a win win

LYRICS: There's a mad dog pulling at his chain A hint of danger in his eye Alarm bells raging around his brain And the chimneys poke in the sky Wake up, wake up and smell the roses Close your eyes and pray this wind don't change Because not much screams in the field of dreams Nothing but hope at the end of the rope Nothing but gold in the chimney smoke Come on honey it's real money This is the room where they make the explosives Where they put your name on the bomb Here's where they bury the buts and the ifs And scratch out words like right and wrong Wake up, wake up and smell the phosphorus This is the room we keep the human hair Don't ask don't tell it could mean a lot for us, yeah A little less cash in the stash in the cupboard at the bottom of the stair, money, honey Wake up, wake up and smell the bacon Run your greasy fingers through her hair This is the life that you have taken Just a line in the captains log Just a whine from a rescue dog Another kid didn't make the grade Come on honey it's a fair trade Wake up, wake up and smell the roses Throw her photo on the funeral pyre, yeah Now we can't forget the threat she poses? Hezigrimm I'm a huge Floyd fan but I'll agree that his solo stuff (Gilmour's as well) has been lacking. Best part is he toned down the spoken word approach and is "singing". Also, the lyrics are concise and interesting, not one long ramble. I'm happy for him.

Hezigrimm we can agree to disagree there. Rick was an important part for sure, but it took all the members (maybe less Mason, but for sure the other 3) to make it all work. Of course it's sad they couldn't continue to work together, but we are still getting such music from the main players. Gotta enjoy it.

There's a diff between having "your sound", and a collage of baselines and grooves and guitar phrases and atmospheres taken from your mid-seventies albums and making a new song out of that. Not that it's nec. bad... but that's why some aren't all happy-happy, Joy-joy. Perhaps because they have slightly better discernment, not 'cause they're morons? Now, whether this mishmash is intentionally part of the deal for this song as it's also part of its message or just creative laziness/bottom-of-the-barrel is another thing, and the full album will confirm that. But all are still all ears. And even to those who voice some disappointment with this first, the man has their firm respect. And it'd still be there even if it flops or he didn't put out anything else, ever.

Incredible first song. Even more excited about this album than I was before. Animals and The Wall are the greatest albums of all time as are Pros and Cons and Amused to Death. This has some incredible feel and just enough of the past and future. No artists are doing ANYTHING as relevant and bad ass as this currently. Sit back and witness one of the last great albums that will be released in our lifetimes. Lyrics are so on point. Thank you Mr Waters. You are a special artist that continues to create on a level that is all your own.

Pros & Cons is the worst album ever released in the history of recorded music; to elevate it to the stature of a true masterpiece like Animals is insulting and utterly laughable. A meandering 40 minute song that shamelessly recycles parts of "Mother" and "Don't Leave Me Now" with terrible spoken "singing" and the stupidest concept of any concept album, ever--an unintentional parody of everything that made his/their earlier masterpieces great. Amused To Death is similarly way too wordy, with all the melodies being lost in Roger's attempt to squeeze as many syllables as possible into one couplet, but at least it's listenable and better than his previous two solo albums. This new song absolutely rules though, thanks to Nigel being an Ezrin/Gilmour level collaborator, which Roger has always needed to turn his spare demos into greatness. I love The Final Cut and hate Momentary Lapse (DB & ER are bland and just okay), just adding that piece of info so I don't get mistaken for a "Dave is the true genius" guy. Pros & Cons is SOOOOOOOOOOOO bad, every time I've played it for a hardcore Floyd fan they get angry and demand to have it turned off by "Sexual Revolution." Also, we're in the middle of an outright musical renaissance right now--in no way is this admittedly great new song the most relevant and this won't be one of the last great albums of our lives. Once And Future Band, Thundercat, Flaming Lips, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, D'Angelo, Flying Lotus, Mac Demarco, Tame Impala, The Lemon Twigs, Run The Jewels, DJ Shadow, Radiohead, Gorillaz, Beck, Glass Animals, Morgan Delt, Major Powers & The Lo Fi Symphony, Cornelius and even Bowie pre-death have all released killer albums since last year began or are just about to--crappy global politics make for killer art and music is currently at a peak and it ain't just Roger! It's not pop on the radio, either--you gotta look for it but it's here, everywhere!

All of this. I actually like parts of MLOR & DB (hate ER), but I wouldn't put them anywhere near the classic Waters-era Floyd. And yes, Waters is a brilliant lyricist, but his solo albums are self-indulgent messes sorely in need of an editor. This song, on the other hand, hearkens back to Animals / The Wall. Fingers crossed.

Robert Manthey Also, I'm not sure I'd call three studio albums released between 1984 and 1992 and one opera released in the 25 years since "a whole lot of stuff." He's toured a lot in recent years, but he hasn't had an album in 25 years. Thank goodness he found a collaborator in Nigel Goodrich who would tell him to his face when something sucked and was excellent at fleshing out his embryonic ideas. Roger has always needed a Gilmour or an Ezrin to turn his spare demos into magic. I think we're about to get his first genuinely great solo album. Pros & Cons and KAOS are unlistenable and Amused To Death was overlong but at least mildly okay. The Gilmour-lead Floyd albums are either awful (Momentary Lapse, though it's certainly more listenable than Pros & Cons) or bland and forgettable (DB, ER). Both parties have suffered not working together but I think Nigel just fixed that problem! Viva Nigel!

It's because they're one of "those" Floyd fans. Like most classic rock fans, they have those same dozen overplayed tunes on an endless repeat, and then sit there moaning about how modern music is all awful, and that the classics are still the best. Classic rock radio is a perfect example of this narrow mindedness. You hear the same few tunes over and over again every day, how can you never get bored of that? I see it in other genres too, a rather vocal bunch who make tired comments like "I only like their early work". Sometimes an artist's latest efforts can be just as enjoyable, but if you go in close minded and expect it to be another Dark Side, then of course you're going to be rather disappointed. Listening more than once can make a big difference too.

Alex Paulsen ...good speech ALEX ..probably VERY CLOSE to the truth ( with some) of the NEGATIVE COMMENT PEOPLES.... have the listening variation of the same old top 10. or 20 classic rock albums. The ones everyone knows an agrees are classics....and then gives there valued opinions 👎🏼

How in the world does he only have 300k subs :( if only the younger generations understood this man as the genius he is!!! Years of my Dad listening to Pink Floyd without a doubt directed me in the right direction in terms of music. We studied the Wall in English class...I mean can I say anything more?! Love you Roger Waters, you gave me the ability to understood true art, true music and true PASSION. No one, ever will be able to replace or do what you have done in the industry. LIKE this if this man has meant way more to your life than just the music!!

Hey, you know what this sounds like? Another Great Roger Waters song! Simply Great! Roger Waters is a powerful force to be reckoned with when it comes to relevant social Statements. For those who think it's a rehash of older material...Do you know how hard it is for a musician to put new vocal melodies into an ''old' sound and still make it sound great? Nearly impossible! These are new compositions, written in the key of Roger Waters vocal range. He is Brilliant! Truly the last Dinosaur of the 1960s that still has something important to say. Thanks again Roger for spending your whole life trying to open eyes, and get a human message across to the great unwashed masses in these troubled times.

To me, Floyd was always about innovation (among many other things). Each succeeding album explored, evolved. Amused had strong innovative, creative elements. Even KAOS did, though it could be said it jumped on the wrong sonic bandwagon. Godrich had a real chance here to bring Rog into the 21st century, with all his Radiohead prowess. Alas, I'm hearing a collage of heyday sounds, without much effort to bring something new to the table. On a side note - after Gilmour and Clapton and Beck, how cool would it be to have Knopfler lend some flavor to this..

Just because the year is 2017 shouldn't affect your enjoyment of the song. Anyway, Roger is about message; not sure what Pink Floyd has to do with this. And honestly Gilmour's albums would probably get more attention if they were recorded like this; same performances but Godrich producing. It sound's very 21st century to me. Most new rock artists are employing recording techniques that make it sound like its from the 60s or 70s anyway. We're in the postmodern era, where innovation isn't that important anymore.

That one and a half minute long interlude between the 1:55 mark and 3:15 = pure genius. I know, because at first listen, it (kinda) bugged me. After hearing it again--I like how it splits the 5 min song in twain. The 2nd half, segued into by that nice fluid lap steel(?) guitar (I assume Godrich) flows into some serious post-Floydian trippery. Obviously there will be those who can't stand what they will consider a derivative sound, but for me, I adore that derivative sound, and I think Roger and his crew nail it perfectly, here. So there you have it. I'll be preordering the vinyl LP asap.
