@nicholasmaxwell98993 жыл бұрын
@@AA-sn9lz Disclaimer: MASSIVE fan of both Roger Waters and Bob Dylan. I can see why you would consider Waters and Dylan better. But these are different styles you're comparing. Waters and Dylan wrote about more heavy, serious topics, MASTERFULLY, but they couldn't write pop rock songs nearly as well as Lennon or McCartney. So it's apples and oranges. The Beatles INTENDED for their music to be more simple and light hearted, because that's what they liked. And there is no denying they were the most brilliant at writing for their style. Bob and Roger are more like poets. That might make you like their writing better, but that doesn't make it inherently better. I believe Lennon and McCartney were both so skilled with the pen that they could have pulled off any style. But it so happens they decided to point their talents toward writing catchy pop rock numbers like their heroes (Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, etc..) And they did it better than anyone BY FAR. Think of it like comparing Da Vinci to Van Gogh. Da Vinci had all these profound, realistic paintings that looked elegant and meaningful, while Van Gogh painted simple moments of life with super bright swirling colors. Was Da Vinci better? I don't think so. Van Gogh wasn't aiming for the same thing. They were both artistic geniuses in very different ways. Lennon and McCartney were AT LEAST as good at what they did as Waters and Dylan were at what they did. Sorry for typing a novel.

Actually, when the record companies ruled there was a lot more political music. It was a whole genre unto itself. Wow. Only someone as stubborn, perfectionist, and deliciously arrogant as Waters would be completely undeterred by the fact that Michael Kamen is now (very sadly) dead, and go out and find someone who can provide that rich orchestral backing to his music that gives it more character than anything else. The sound effects are there, Roger is doing that scream again, things are exploding...Smell the Roses was like something cut out of Animals, this is something cut (lol) from The Final Cut. Phenomenal stuff.

Okay this is amazing, I love everything about it. The vulnerability in Roger's voice when he shouts, and the lyrics are so beautiful and make the song extremely powerful. I also love how the song itself is pretty much deja vu as it sounds like "Mother" and "Pings on the Wing" not just melodically, but like "Mother" literally starts with Pink asking his mom if the army is gonna drop the bomb, and in "Deja Vu" Roger literally imagines himself as a drone, it's deja vu because after all these years he's still having the same fears and thoughts. very amazing and the last verse is one of the most beautiful musical moments I've had this year

According to Roger Waters, there are two verses in the song that the director Nigel Godrich removed on the final cut to make the record fit the run time of 54 minutes. Otherwise, the album would have run over 60 minutes which according to Roger would be a disaster. The Two verses were suppose to be in the last part of the song and they go like this: {Verse 4} And if I were a Muslim And you were a Jew If I were a Mennonite And you were an Hindu Would we exchange The weight of these chains Chains of belief And the carnage on the trains to turn over a new leaf {Verse 5} If I had been god I would not have chosen anyone I would have laid an even hand On all my children everyone Would have been content To forgo Ramadan and Lent Time better spent In the company of friends Breaking bread and mending nets

If these are indeed the missing lyrics I wish they had been included. Roger himself said he is a "radical atheist" and I wish he could get this message across, much as he did with the brilliant Amused to Death. Roger is a rationalist and believes that religious faith and god-worship builds walls around people, causes needles strife, repression and death.

You can find this part of the song with 4&5 verse at the end of the US & Them concert film

I'm 50 and have been a fan of Pink Floyd since I was 10. It's been 25 years since Roger's last studio album, Amused to Death, which is literally half my lifetime. A whole new generation has been born since then and it is amazing to think that there are people out there waiting for this who were not alive when the last one came out.

i was a huge pink floyd fan when i was about 11 years old, going through my classic rock phase. I'm 15 years old now, and I expected this to be a so-so dad rock song, but this song is amazing. I'm thoroughly impressed.

¿ Y Ernesto ?, creo que tanto la música como la letra son tremendamente emotivas, creo sinceramente que Waters ha vuelto a dar en el clavo, es mi sincera opinión, a años luz de los demás.
