Rows and floes of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere Looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and they snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way that you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show And you leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take and still somehow It's love's illusions that I recall I really don't know love I really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud To say, "I love you, " right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way Oh, but now old friends, they're acting strange And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed Well, something's lost, but something's gained In living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all It's life's illusions that I recall I really don't know life I really don't know life at all

This man and Karen Carpenter. Two humans, one for each gender, with the most amazing, velvety, perfect voices. I’ve always thought of them as so similar. Both sang (at least somewhat similar) style of music Both sang in low register. Both voices were smooth as butter, soft as velvet, sooo easy on the ears, almost angelic Very similar vocal quality How amazing do you think a duet could have been between those two? And can we acknowledge what a beautiful SPEAKING voice this man has? My God. Not just because he has an “accent” but he has one of the most BEAUTIFUL accents I’ve ever heard, and his quality is just as velvety as it is when he sings.

From the moment you first hear his voice, you are not only stunned by his most gorgeous velvet tones, but also the way in which Roger Whittaker some how manages to enhance a song even further still. P.s a note to the musicians/artists of today, this is how you do it. Back to basics & using your true talent. Lol, what am I thinking, there is no talent anymore. Proper music died long ago 😢 God bless ya & RIP Roger W. Another true legend departs the stage for the final time 😢😪

Went on a venture scout camp in the early 90s. Us boys were fully trenched in the grunge era. Nirvana was at their height, we were too cool for anything else. One of the drivers to our destination was an older gentlemen, I believe he was a train engineer. He put on a greatest hits tape of Roger Whittaker. It was the most terrible thing for us 14, 15 year old boys. But we slowly settled in and opened our ears. After our 3 hour trip, we were all fully converted. Everyone wanted to ride in his car for the trip home, and were fighting for the tape if we weren't. Have been a huge fan ever since.

I've loved his music during my very young life aswell - between 6 and 12. My late father Jon was a great fan of his and had his album "New World in the Morning". I've got that album again on CD - and was amazed to see Roger looked quite uncannily like Jon (or vice versa) on that cover; could almost say Jon was Roger's doppelganger. Like Roger, Jon was a gentle soul and whistled a lot (though not in Roger's "flute" style!)

@davidfirelight62607 жыл бұрын
Roger Whittaker he sings it so well...so lovely and peaceful ..the heart on the right place. His feeling for the lyric and the melody are there where they belong. His soft warm voice let this tune be one of the best reflections about life ever . Today lots of performers bring the song "Both Sides Now" ....."too slow , too uneventful, too dull and too boring". And when not... then the risk of "overacting", of "hamming with too much of decoration" is everywhere. And of course there're some exceptional artists who gives priority to the expression of the aimed feelings and (for example ...Unni Wilhelmsen... perhaps...!) But maybe we 're arrived in another time-segment...just like that time right after the renaissance.. in Italy... The time of mannerism. it was a time where every artistic "form giving" that could be achieved has been already achieved. And they get into a time of competition and competitive spirit.... and It was such a time of using characteristic distortion and exaggerations. And nobody of us can say that "El Greco, Bronzino, Tintoretto, Cellini... aren't great artists...And so was it in the music at that time we know what happens in the music.. a time of contrapuntally polyphonic music... But there was more up in the society ... there was more going on outside.... as just this deformations in the artistic style.. and so it is in our time now. Personally I like the old school the most... Judy Collins (at the piano in 1987), Joni Mitchell herself (in that album of 2000), Julio Bernardo Euson (1971), even Bing Crosby did it very well..... and a man like Roger can take place in the row of great performers. A man like Roger never gives himself away...
