I've been absent from fishing for 40 odd years(life got in the way). Retired now, and I needed someone to explain the new gear (no such thing as braid or fluorocarbon in those days!) and the science of reading a beach and fishing in general. Went to Ocean Beach near Strahan, Tas. followed your tips and caught some nice sized salmon! I'm pretty sure they're the biggest fish I've ever caught ... so thank you, Roger, for all your input . I feel much more capable now.

Thank you Roger. You have a very much think-ahead approach, I do the same, ...planning ahead makes a day,s fishing more pleasant! I tie all my bait already on hooks, freeze the hook and bait. This approach stems from that I have determined exactly what fish species I am going to target, as well as where I am going to fish, with our south-easterly, easterly fishing wind in mind. Louis

Hi Roger. Great informative video. You mentioned that big swells and high winds are not great times. Could you please comment on specific numbers for too high swell in metres and too windy times in knots for good ok and dont bother fishing times? I am also on the AUS east coast. I do a bit of fishing but am trying to be more consistent in catching fish :-) thanks
@RogerOsborneFishing5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brendon, I prefer swell of around 1 metre and not bigger than 2 metres although when the swell is large you can often find somewhere protected near the corner of the beach or in the shelter of a headland. I prefer no wind or up to about 10 knots (18.5 km per hour ). Kind Regards Roger

I am from coral island named Kalpeni, Lakshadweep in Arabian sea. Kalpeni is located about 120 miles west of Kochi, India. While growing up fishing around the lagoon of Kalpeni and I am feel blessed while I am at it. 5 years back I shifted to mainland India. Hear beaches are flat with few structures there is, are littered with abandoned fishing nets. Just like you I have a deep urge to fish through out the year. Lately I understood that beach fishing is the way to go. Unlike in my island i am unable to have instincts of when and where to catch fish on flat beaches of mainland. Your video helped me to get a better understanding of how stuff work on any beach around the world. I wish you could elaborate on few points and how to identify them through out the year. 1. How do I come to know the spawning season to better target a species. 2. Rig 3. How seasons affect the time for fishing. 4. Time for fishing when there are no sand bars or structures. 5. Types of fishing like jigging etc and time of the year to employ them. 6. How to Identify what the fish are feeding on. 7. Tide, sun and moon relation. 8. Off season fishing ( times when fish are few). You sound like my uncle back home and I enjoyed watching your video. I felt like you squeezed a lot of information in a short span of time and I have watched the video many times over. I wonder if it is the best time for me to fish all day long as everything around hear is closed for Corona pandemic. Keep up your good work. Thanks.

Thank-you Sir...your insights are very welcome! I recently fished an open section of the Kingscliff beach area...winds were Northerly and strong...a lot of weed in the water and strong currents...not ideal for fishing I know! But my young son and I were camping and didnt have much opportunity to move far...we were lucky that a gutter existed just in front of our camp, however it didnt have an obvious outlet to the sea...we got one 32cm whiting closer to shore but that was it! No good bites...Was it just like you said, "sometimes you just are wasting your time?" I also often wonder about how much weight I should be using...I like to fish light but the swell and under currents can be horrendous near Kingscliff...Could you please provide some guidance as to lead/sinkers ?? Also I am struggling to catch a beach worm, even with your guidance...when you were first starting out...was it frustrating and felt difficult or am I just completely using the wrong technique??? Kind regards and thank-you!
