Rogers: The Musical is a Broadway musical based on Steve Rogers, the first Captain America, with music by Marc Shaiman. In 2024, it was produced and shown at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York City. In Hawkeye, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop shoot a few arrows and try to avoid becoming the target themselves. awkeye is an American television miniseries created by Jonathan Igla for the streaming service Disney+, based on Marvel Comics featuring the characters Clint Barton / Hawkeye and Kate Bishop / Hawkeye. It is the fifth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise and taking place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame (2019). It sees Clint Barton as he partners with Kate Bishop to confront enemies from his past in order to be with his family in time for Christmas. Igla served as head writer with Rhys Thomas leading the directing team.

According to smart hulk's confusing time travel explanation, they went "back in time" and created a new reality. Our primary reality and the people in it still had events happen as they played out in the first avengers film (without antman). Time travel in the MCU isn't linear, so ant man can't change that past. It could be said though that by going to a new reality, ant man personally experienced a version of the events of the first avengers film. And maybe that was enough for him to gaslight the world into thinking he actually was there in our primary reality, even though he never was.
@mangamandrew

@@TimManuelMiranda sure, but my point was that by technicality, he was in that battle wether or not it was a new reality or not. And with the context of Ms. Marvel and Loki, it is very possible that the avengers going back in time was always a part of the sacred time line and therefore was apart of the original time line like in Ms. Marvel.

@@TimManuelMiranda ok, but who's to say that the events of our main MCU universe werent altered by another MCU universe doing the same thing? If they put qll the peices back correctly, we wouldnt know the difference? Perhaps thats why captain america is sitting on the bench at the end. Mabey he's just a slightly different cap that wound up in the main MCU after going back in time.

Unfortunately People are idiots . This is a very watchable chapter. New Rockstars did complain about this , but I believe they are at fault for alot of disappointment as they hype up these convoluted theories. Theories that never work , unfortunately it hurts casual fans who don't know any better . Then we have the i hate female characters group who actually take the time to count every time a female character saves a male character. It's creepy . As for this chapter, it's objective was let's get to know Kate Bishop, her personality and morals. Let's introduce her and build this link to the main Avengers . While world building. They achieved them. Every single scene with Kate and Yellena was fantastic and I can't wait to see them interact with Peter, Kamala and Jen they all have this level of charm, geeky goofiness which is just great to see

Don't forget the other theme brought out with the musical or with Clint's watching the musical--Trauma. At the beginning of the series, Clint is horribly traumatized and the musical is triggering. Kate is also traumatized and acting out. Neither one has managed to properly deal with their respective trauma, and the show progresses through their having to confront their trauma and learning to live with and through it. You can also add Yelena and Pizza dog to the trauma list.

I agree with you in regards to its importance to Clint's character. I would add that while Natasha is the deepest wound for Clint, Tony, and Cap are also dead, dead, dead, and Thor's off having space adventures. So maybe Bruce is kicking around somewhere doing something, but for the most part everyone is gone, and Clint is alone with his memories in a crowd of people. And while yes, people don't see him eat and shit and be a normal person, I think he, like Natasha, was never quite comfortable with the superhero title in the first place. He's government black ops. And then he became an assassin. I don't think he's ever really thought of himself as a hero. But he really is a hero. What Kate saw was real. When the city was threatened, Clint fought and saved people. And Clint is phenomenally skilled. He really is everything she trained to be. Her knowledge isn't a lie. It just didn't take into account that he's also a jaded ex-operative. And Clint, who was always the least of the Avengers in the MCU, by exposure to Kate, does come to appreciate that he really is a hero. And that he deserves to be on stage with a God, two Geniuses, a Super Soldier, and the woman who sacrificed everything she ever was or would be to save the universe and give him his family back, a debt he can never ever repay. And supposedly, if there is a Heaven, she won't be there. She's completely gone. Kate has the advantage of providing him with unconditional admiration while not being his kid. So he can be fatherly/mentorly toward her, but in the end, she's also not really his responsibility. He doesn't have to protect her from the truth, though. And I think that's a nice burden to be lifted.

The Hawkeye show is my second-favorite of the Disney+ Marvel shows, behind only WandaVision. It's not groundbreaking or game-changing for the MCU or anything, but what it IS is a fun, festive, comedic adventure my whole family loved. Every episode was an equal level of high quality; there were none I thought were weaker, lesser, or bad. In my opinion, it's also the first of the shows with a REALLY GOOD finale, and one of my happiest memories of last year's holiday season was watching the finale with my family, and laughing our heads off at the Yelena and Kate, LARPers, and Rogers: The Musical scenes (I even got my friend a Rogers: The Musical tee for her birthday). Your talk about Eleanor and the whole perception thing is fascinating because in many ways all of these stories really are about framing. We root for the protagonists/heroes because of the way these stories are framed and how we are shown their perspectives, but I have always believed that for many antagonists like Killmonger or Zemo or Ghost or Vulture or John Walker and more, change the framing ever so slightly and those characters could easily be “the hero” of the story. Perception is a very powerful thing and it colors how we view characters and even how we judge them. I mean, Eleanor is viewed as bad, Kate even gets her arrested because she did bad things, however one could argue that Clint did just as much, if not more bad things, but the story directs our perception in ways to view Clint differently, it even directs Echo’s revenge to someone else. At the end of the day, Clint is allowed to “retire” and keep his dark secrets from the world and never face anything beyond self accountability and remain perceived as a hero. I think there is something to be discussed about how perceptions in the narrative might birth hypocrisies in the MCU that the narrative doesn’t necessarily recognize or really wants to confront.

The relationship of text, context and metatext is played out all through Phase 4, at least in the D+ series. An overarching theme in all the series is 'how do these heroes fit into society now' with major questions about history, legacy, the law, all being peeled back and examined in different ways. I plan to go back through all of Phase4 and watch again with questions like this in mind, because they want us questioning the nature of this reality and that's cool.

Ooh this was a cool little deep dive! I love how neatly your analysis fits into the tapestry of themes the show was weaving. Now you've got me thinking about this little musical in the context of "The Falcon And The Winter Soldier" because although this musical is supposed to be about Steve's life ... there isn't even an iota of his presence as we've come to know him in it. The musical feels closer to his "dancing monkey" era scripted propaganda set pieces than anything attempting to authentically present Steve. And "TFATWS" does ponder the complexity in the distinction between Steve and Captain American but this idea of different "knowings" and perceptions is a really fascinating framework to examine Steve himself and his story through.

Something that makes me uncomfortable about the Rogers: The Musical scene is albeit a little meta. To those in universe who lived through the battle of New York, watching it play out in that fashion was most likely traumatic. Who watches Broadway productions? Lots of people, but critics are based in NYC. I guarantee they would have had strong feelings about this. I guarantee New Yorkers would not be enjoying that scene in particular despite *only* Clint appearing uncomfortable. I might be taking this too seriously, but I’m a Theatre Education Major…I just think that a GLOBAL INVASION WHICH CULMINATED IN A LARGE BATTLE IN NEW YORK would do well in a production like this. Especially if I’m universe 9-11 actually happened. Given the New World Trade Center seen in shots of New York, leads me to believe that it did. Would you be comfortable watching a comical musical depicting in part the events of that tragic day? I don’t think so. It suspends my disbelief that no one thought that this wasn’t ok.

There are two points I want to bring up here. First is simply that while Hawkeye might see the symbolism in burning the Ronin suit at the end, destroying the suit, the evidence and connection, was his goal for a large portion of the show. So saying he is burning it just because he learned about perception and its power feels forced. Second, is that you failed to mention (for whatever reason), the role of 'Hawkeye' in the song 'Save the City'. "While Hawkeye seems cool, like a really nice guy" "Just how are we to fight them?". Then in the 'fighting' he helps Nat and then gets punched down. He's a footnote and not given any credit in the song or dance. While in his role as a spy that might be for the best, it still has to sting. Both not being credited and being very much misunderstood and misrepresented.

I think it is fair to also see the play as something like a gift for the audience, whether it be a funny thing for casual watchers or a guide into meta story telling, like this video highlights. While more in your face, it’s far from the first. It’s like finding a Pixar Easter egg, or even the concept of Chekhov’s Shotgun. Can it be for the story context specifically? Sometimes when it comes to Chekhov’s shotgun and in turn, the feeling is shared between the character and audience, but sometimes, in order to convey lessons or even levels of fun and enjoyment, doing a little bit of something for just those watching, while in the danger zone of taking you out of the story, can make the story even stronger and more understandable.

Honestly the criticism Hawkeye got, at least the criticism I had of it, was mostly that it had a disappointing and thematically weak finale, especially with how it failed to really utilise Kingpin as a villain. But I really, really loved the first 4 episodes, at least putting it on the level of Loki

Dang, you got so much out of this. I thought the musical was just to set up the public perception of hawkeye, and the end credits scene was just for fun.

I always found the existence of this musical in the MCU to be strange, like the battle of new york was a tragedy that claimed thousands of lives and leveled New York, like how would we feel about a 9/11 musical?

I suggest watching Come From Away. It’s a musical about the airline rerouting to Newfoundland after the airways were closed on 9/11. It’s available for streaming on Apple TV+. This and Rogers are very, very different in tone, though. Come From Away treats 9/11 with due reverence.

The lead singer in the number was from a play that focused on AIDS, rather irreverently at times. Also, you’re focusing on the battle, one number in the whole show, when the point is that they did a musical based on someone they’ve built up into a great hero. Which they absolutely would do. Seriously, dig into musical theater history a bit.

The thing that makes me laugh is that this was a tragic attack on New York where people died, and there’s a musical scene about it. This would be like there being a 9/11 musical in real life.

Pillar of garbage just want to ask a question I heard in the last video you said the Spider-Man no way home video was gonna be negative on the mcu in just curious did you hate no way home because I think it was the best Spider-Man movie because the story was amazing and in reality really just focused on Spider-Man Srry I’m just perseverating but I am curious on your opinion but if you think it’s not a great Spider verse movie I agree it wasn’t really a multiverse movie in my eyes

My basic position is: No Way Home taken in isolation is a good film, a good Spider-Man film, but that it’s very odd when taken within the context of MCU Spider-Man’s journey.

The musical is also commentary on how the MCU has been mythologized by the audience. The "heroes" were actors who got hired for roles and played their roles well (for the most part). The movies are fiction (like the musical) because real people can't save the world by punching everything, yet people want to say they are somehow true or contain truths, or are at least "truthy". Also, in canon, can you imagine Steve Rogers' reaction to this? He grew to heat being part of the propaganda machine, and biographies-as-musicals have to be the worst kind of propaganda.
