Hey Roger, Was working as a butcher for 7 years. Now at 27 i am just finishing my 2nd week as a first year apprentice in Canada. I am feeling a little overwhelmed at times but its getting better by the day. Precvously had very little experience in trades or even using tools/powertools. Your videos help me out, and really show me how much i have to learn. Day by day.

I started plumbing at 26. Didn't know a damn thing. Guys hated me cuz I didn't know shit. After a few months they saw I was learning. I always jumped into the shitty situations other guys didn't want to do, which made me more valuable to them. I'm starting my 4th year next week. You can dooooo theeeeeeees. What kind of plumber are you? Service, commercial, new construction residential?

This is good advice. I myself started out in electrical and then went over to doing HVAC. The shoo I work in we do HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, and a little bit of plumbing. My goal is to get at least my electrical and HVAC license. I would like to also get my plumbing license as well. Thanks for making the video Roger.

From a combo local . Got both cards and medgas and a certs in stick , tig and little bit of MiG . Like you said , work is been non stop no matter busy or slow. it’s been a trend that more people are interesting to try something different and leaning more and it usually will be rewarded with more work and choice of works .

It seems that it's way more common for plumbers to train to also do HVAC in northern areas that have more residential and light commercial boiler heating systems.

Roofer+Electrician+Solar... would be able to do everything from the solar side... but also know how to do it to keep the roof minimal damage. Or if the panels need to be moved, how to repair the roof so it won't leak. Add in tree removal... the ability to repair a solar-equipped roof following a tree falling on it :)

What trades would you encourage for people who want to know how to make and program things? Currently a sophomore student for a Mechatronic engineering program, (May switch to electrical engineering) but I realize that if I don’t understand how to work with my hands to actually make or repair anything. I’ve heard that IT repair, electrician, instrumentation, millwrights, machinist, mechanical fitters, and welders fit well but I really just need a general direction while I’m in school and still have time to find out.

I think HVAC and Electrical are a great combo. It would help to really know the electrical side of things if you wanted to go into Refrigeration. I think if you wanted to own your own business then Plumbing and HVAC would be good for residential. I am in HVAC and work in commercial/industrial hvac. I like it and thinking of taking electrical courses, my boss does not like it when we take up courses in other trades despite them having people there to train us on it further.... I perfer to have more than one skill so that there is always something to do and that I also have more of a better understanding of the electrical side of things seeing most of our HVAC problems are electrical in nature. I also play around with three-phase so why not go for the electrical courses (and hopefully license)? I dont get why some trade companies hate giving you the opportunity to learn two things which are closely connected anyway. "No you cant do it, it means I have to pay you more and train you more!" LOL. I think HVAC can go with both of these trades as I see alot of residential and commercial companies doing all three of them. Its just crazy they dont encourage their techs to dip into another trade for further learning, if you think about it they can have you doing more work and in turn generating more profits for the company. I see it as a win win situation but maybe they dont see it that way because they might have to pay you more for your labor.
