Two Insinkerator "pro" tips: 1) If you spent the time to clock the drain ring so it looks right in the sink, did you spend the time to apply the serial number label? The model/serial label on these is split in two parts. They understand that the machine may not be installed with it oriented facing forward, so they expect you to rip off half of the label and apply it to the front after it's mounted. Years later, when the customer is calling for warranty support, they'll thank you for not having to use a mirror to find the serial number! 2) The mounting lock ring clicks when it is fully installed! It takes a lot of force to get it to click, so I've seen a lot of these improperly mounted. Anyway, the lock ring has loop holes in it that fit a 1/4" rod perfectly. That's the diameter of a normal #2 phillips driver. Stick your screwdriver into the loop, and you've got a perfect handle to turn the lock ring home.

I came home from work the other day to a busted garbage disposal and a sink full of water. I did not plan on replacing the disposal even though it was loud and annoying. I purchased this very model that you are showing and I am SO happy with it. So quiet, and I didn't realize it turned with a counter-rotation until your video, missed that feature. A 9-year warranty is a great selling feature not just as a homeowner but I a plumber was coming to fix this for me and explained the warranty benefit that would easily upsell me.

I installed the pneumatic switch in an old house I lived it, that did not not previously have a disposal. Depending on your water quality, after time, you may have to disassemble and clean the plunger/ button if it gets wet. I had my disposal stick in the on position because of build up under the button. Cleaned it and worked fine again. Just an FYI.

I just bought a new sink and did a remodel so I have a 1 drain sink now. Everything goes through it. Idk if that's better or worse. But, I clean it a often by taking the rubber out of the drain and sometime using bashing soda and vinegar. Never smells. It was close to$300 if I remember correctly. It's about 15 years old. NO apartment complex disposals have a hex wrench in the kitchen any more. In my experience, the maintenance people will have an 18" piece of broom or plunger handle on the cart. This is the standard tool to get the disposal going again. Guy I knew used it so often that it had a rut around it exactly at the depth of the impeller. Worst for jamming a disposal in the Upper Midwest: watermelon seeds. They bind up between the lugs and the screen. I suppose bones can be worse, but you can actually SEE them looking down into the chamber.

I know this is 2 years old, but what’s your opinion of the Insinkerator Evolution Excel? The 750 is 3/4 hp, is there an advantage to upgrade to the 1 hp or is that overkill?
@Dirty_Bear22 Жыл бұрын
Evolution excel is a significantly better unit. It’s the only unit on the residential market that still has a Capacitor start motor, and a under-cutting grind stage. Do you need the extra performance? I don’t know… As someone who works with appliances I know most most designs since the 1970s or so. Own a fair bit of them as well. Very high end residential units essentially priced the shelves out of the market. Features like cast components have been replaced with stamped steel, and grind designs were simplified…

Roger, are garbage disposals safe for septic tank systems?
@MaMa-qh4dy3 жыл бұрын
I installed one and purposely NEVER use it. Unless you want to be pumping-out your septic on a regular basis according to how much you use your disposal. When the house is sold, people are always looking for a disposal. That is the reason I have one.
@compactc93 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are safe.
@chedisLoL3 жыл бұрын
@@MaMa-qh4dy Dunno what youre talking about. I use my garbage disposal just fine for about a decade without issues with my septic system. Bet your septic system is old? I dunno how a disposal makes a septic system have issues when you rarely have food in your sink; and small pieces of food in a pipe makes it easier to deal with. So maybe youre a little over doing it a bit.
@kenbrown28083 жыл бұрын
you will have to pump out your tank more frequently, even if you get a model with a "septic safe" enzyme bottle. really, wastewater treatment plants aren't fond of them, either, but they have ways to clean out the sludge.

the best feature of the air switch is it is a flip flop controller, so if the electrician was a cheapskate and didn't provide an instahot circuit, you can add an instahot to the other side of the air switch, and they won't both try to run at once - so it won't trip the breaker.

Roger have you seen and/or replaced any that did have odd shredder designs e,g short proximity turntables, rind flippers/ v blades etc? And when were all these more common from your experience? Have you ever seen one with a dual shredder? Like a planetry gearset /dual motor or anything similar? Or have they all been like the new industrial ones and not far off from that, with meatier teeth on them?
@Dirty_Bear22 Жыл бұрын
Short proximity turn tables? Are you referring to the distance between the flywheel and the throat opening? Plenty of units had, and some still do have rind flippers. Only disposal I know having V blender type blade was the wasteking units from around 1970. The features were more common in the mid 1900s, they were cut away on many units due to cost. No unit ever used a gearbox or dual motor. Could be done, but not really practical due to cost. Not sure what you would define a dual shredder as. The higher duty a disposal is expected to perform, the better built the grind chamber, motor, housing is made.
