ph adjusting makeup exists, but not in the typical way advertised. It adjusts to the ph of human skin, its just not so sensitive that it 'makes everyone a different shade', everyone gets the same color, but since its sheer, it looks different on different colors of skin

The active ingredient is Ci 45410, aka red lake 27 aka red lake 28. It's a staining dye that only gives one color if it isn't mixed with other stains: pink. If the pH is acidic it's pink, if the pH is alkaline it's clear. And if there's no water (no water = no pH) it's clear, which is why companies love using that stain. How much dye is used determines how strong the pink is, but as the youtuber above me already said, it's sheer. So it will look different depending on what colors it is over.

I know.. which sucks because this is one luxury makeup product I’ve always considered splurging on. But L’Oréal has a really good dupe for $12 (and that’s here in Canada, so it’s probably cheaper in the states), I think it’s called “L’Oréal glow paradise lip balm”. I bought it a year ago, I remember really liking it. Looked quite similar (although I’ve never bought the YSL). Oh I just realized that I think you’re a guy lol.. you probably won’t care about my cheap dupe finding.. well, who doesn’t like a dupe😅
