Coop, I like your numbering system. A good way to make it a little less arbitrary would be to verbalize improvements that would make up the difference. For instance: "Stability, 9 out of 10, and to reach a 10/10 it would need to have XYZ to get there." This makes your numbering system a little more grounded and gives the companies tangible feedback to work with for improvement, and we all win. Thanks for what you do.

It always seems easy to do something better until you try it. I mean, go for it, but I think that the better bench you'll make will end up costing too much. That seems to be the catch. Build it well, all the features, and make it affordable.

Do it. Make a video and start a gofund me. The key thing for me is that there's great product's out there but there's always seems to be missing 1 or 2 things about it from making it the "best" product out there. I'm always like come on why didn't they just add this or that to it. Why can't we have 1 that blows all of them out the water. 1 that ends the conversation on which is better.

@@deadapostle yes you are right. I'm not attempting it to save money. I know I will end up spending more on the couple of prototypes, and they still might be inferior to Rogue or REP. but just for fun and satisfaction of using my own made bench, I will give it a go. yes that's how the evolution works. we always take the best version of whatever, and start from there.

Thanks for another nice overview of some new offerings. Love the AB 3.0 and 90% of what Rogue does. I have a ton of Rogue equipment, as well as Sorinex in my basement gym. So I’m not shy on spending money - when it’s quality and when there is nothing else out there that meets or beats it. I have to say though, in this instance, the Rogue AB 3.0 “chased” the Rep AB 5200 and is in no way more premium than the 5200. The two rival each other, but the REP 5200 is about $130 less. There is zero added value in my opinion to getting the Rogue AB 3.0. When you compare price points (690-710 range) the REP AB 5000 Zero-gap with its leg attachment and free shipping at $710 allowing for decline work as well and ab work to the SS Rogue AB 3.0 at $695 shipped, the added features and zero gap blow away the AB 3.0. The REP AB -5000 zero gap, also stands upright, but interestingly is beautifully finished on the undersurface too. Almost like it is intended to be viewed from underneath. No staples or trimmed edges to the upholstery like on the Rogue, just a perfect finish to the metal base and seamless upholstery. A Direct comparison of functionality of the REP AB 5000 zero gap would be Rogue’s AB-3, which with shipping is over $1000 compared to the REP at $710, so no contest even there.
@airgordo4
@airgordo4 3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t used this exact bench yet, but IMO the difference between Rogue and Rep benches in the past is just that the Rogue benches typically feel a bit more “solid” and the padding typically feels a little closer to commercial bench in terms of quality and firmness. Now is that worth the extra 100+ dollars, or is it even something you really notice much while using it? That’s the million dollar question. But the price point is likely close enough for those who want to support “Made in America” or have all other Rogue equipment and just want it to match without dropping a thousand bucks to justify buying this over the Rep.. I’m still undecided on a bench myself. IMO the Rogue padding on even my lat pulldown seat feels better than that of a Rep bench, so I like the idea of how firm and commercial like a Rogue bench would feel. I don’t like the slight play in the zero gap personally. So I’m basically considering this and the 5200, and find myself trying to answer that same question. Is it worth spending a little extra or not. I have no brand loyalty. But I do know I prefer the padding on other Rogue benches. If this is the same on this bench then it’s at least a little bit difficult for me to decide between them.

Thomas, Rogue’s build quality is indeed superb, but specifically with REPs AB 5200 and the AB -5000 Zero Gap I can unquestionably say that that is not true. Other pieces, sure. I can attest to also, that Sorinex’s upholstery is top notch too, generally a notch above Rogue’s

For the price , this bench is worth every penny especially since most pieces are USA made. This model design size and width is very similar to the commercial Atlantis B-177 Adjustable Bench I have which retails for $1200 with shipping and tax and this is at a discounted price. The rogue looks much sturdier from the video. I would never again spend over $1000 an a bench. But the Atlantis was the only design I found worked best for me and this design looks like a close replica. I would definitely choose the rogue if I had to pick an adjustable bench again as it's much cheaper. Rogue equipment might seem expensive to some, but it's actually much cheaper than commercial grade equipment and the quality very good. People have no clue how expensive commercial equipment costs lol. Rogue is very reasonably priced. You get commercial quality at a lower cost.

@@TrenbologneSandwich explain how its garbage. My bench has a 700lb weight capacity I'm no were close to benching 500. Does it have gap between seat and backpad yes but who cares. A homegym is about saving space and a adjustable bench that can leg extensions and curls sounds perfect for a homegym.
@TrenbologneSandwich
@TrenbologneSandwich 3 жыл бұрын
@@handcannon11 well first off, a home gym is NOT about saving space. If that was the case you would simply go to a regular gym. A home gym is about having better equipment and more convenience. A low end product is not better equipment. I also guarantee that your 700lb capacity won't hold up for more than 100-150 sessions meaning after 2-3 years having it it's not going to be able to handle that because it's cheap trash. In 4-5 years it will literally be bending when you rack 315. It most likely isn't very stable, has questionable welds, uses a faux leather or similar quality cover over a thin metal and particle board sheet, and probably has an absolute dogshit cushion. The leg extension probably has a low quality foam pad that slips off while you use it and uses 1" plates. The preacher curl probably doesn't even have a rack and is also probably very narrow compared to a real preacher stand. If I'm wrong that's surprising but the fact you literally said it's not the best means you already know it's crap

I recommend changing the “Coop Score” system. The numbers are a bit too arbitrary to follow. I recommend a 1-5 scale as follows: 5- industry leading (best in its class at the moment) 4- above average (better than most products in its class) 3- average (good baseline that works. Most people would get by) 2- below average (leaves a lot to to be desired. Maybe a temporary solution) 1- horrible quality (unsafe, lots of obvious corners cut) Just have an explanation and reasons behind the numbers to help companies improve their products. With your following, who knows? The industry might adopt a standardized system. Love the vids Coop.
@GarageGymReviews
@GarageGymReviews 3 жыл бұрын
This is helpful. Am constantly trying to improve the score!
@evotikto
@evotikto 3 жыл бұрын
@@GarageGymReviews Just my opinion -- I honestly disagree because a larger scale allows for more flexibility in the grading due to certain nuances. One product may be nearly identical to another, but edges out very slightly because of a particular non-significant feature. In a /5 grade scale, you would likely score them the exact same or use an arbitrary decimal. In a /10 grade scale, +/- 0.5 is understood as "minor feature advantage/disadvantage" in my mind. I don't think it's a good idea to go with fractions other than 0.5 because it becomes convoluted and you might as well have just gone with a /100 grading scale. I do think Danny's idea of industry leading down to horrible quality is a great idea, but I think Coop has enough insight on all the equipment he's used so far that "industry leading" is almost never going to be chosen. So, I imagine a lot of products will be rated as 3 or 4 which will dilute that pool of product line. Instead, he could then divide those 3's and 4's into 5's through 9's for better ranking based on his opinions and input.
@RuanKiwi
@RuanKiwi 3 жыл бұрын
@@evotikto Excellent point. Adding a decimal system would help but it would be similar to just having a bigger scale as you said. I believe the key takeaway is to categorize certain ranges into tiers to standardize equipment features on a well-explained totem pole. As long as the numbers are objective and well articulated, we should all be happier campers.
@SethBeck
@SethBeck 3 жыл бұрын
@@evotikto As someone who deals with grading standards for flight training, I disagree with a wide scale. We used to have one and it was confusing to instructors and clients/students so a couple of years ago my organization adopted a 4-point scale with clearly defined criteria for assessing performance. The difference between the old system and the new one was startling not just in the delivery of training but also from the data science perspective. Just my two cents from another industry.

Coop! I just ordered several items from Rogue including the Rogue 3.0 Adjustable Bench, 640 lbs of Competition Training Bumper Plates, 3 barbells and some barbell plate clamps. Delivery was dropped outside my garage in my driveway. My wife was home but nobody rang the doorbell. That was a little frustrating since there was rain in the forecast. I got the delivery notice while at work and I'm freaking out because it's starting to rain! I get home in a rush about an hour later and start manhandling these pallets and boxes into my garage in the rain. Saving grace, there was black plastic over top of the boxes that protected 95% of the boxes from the rain. The only setback is that the Rogue 3.0 Adjustable Bench is missing part #7 Seat Support Arm! 🤦🏾‍♂️ I just emailed Rogue today so we will see how quickly this can get resolved.

But that said, do you think when your actually using the bench for presses and it’s 95 degrees in the gym and your sweating and your pushing out those last reps, you’d really know if your laying on this or a 5200? Is that $250 more (todays Rogue price now with shipping) noticeable in the heat of the workout? Will the Rogue bench stay in better shape and condition longer? Love the storage, it folds right next to my weight set in the garage and hardly takes any space. I wish the covering material was a little bit tougher. I have a feeling that in a couple years it'll tear, but the bench is very well priced that I would just buy a new one.3 month usage review. Awesome bench for someone looking for compactness and storage. I did have to drill a couple holes to adjust my preferred seating position and leg bar position but that's only due to my personal preference. It's very sturdy for normal workouts, but for anyone going above 100# dumbbell press it wobbles ever so slightly. I would probably go with a fixed bench if that's the case. That being said i can accomplish 99% of my normal gym workout with this setup. Very happy with the purchase.

So glad you reviewed this. If I had even a slightly bigger room, this would be my choice. I may still have to go with the prx adjustable. If anyone has the 3.0 paired with the prx pro rack, I would like to see how it looks from the profile view. I am curious if the pull-up bar could be used when the bench is in the stowed position. My guess is the bench would be in the way when doing pull-ups, or in the way when doing squats.

While it looks great I personally try to get very light benches for my home gym. I have to move the bench a lot for different exercises - no need to go with a gym grade bench that is designed to be put in front of a mirror not being moved ever..

Coop thanks for listening to your viewers and providing this review! Was really looking forward to this one. Can't wait to see your new facility! Another versatile piece that's been getting some attention is the power tec lever gym. Seems very functional with the pull down/low row and lever arms combo. Interested to hear your opinions.

In addition to all that Coop mentioned, I especially like the narrower foot so I can adjust where to place my blocks for BPs. Also, this will set me back a cool $750 with shipping and tax in Florida for the upgraded, stainless steel model. I may pull the trigger on this in December.

So the question no one seems to be able / willing to answer (including Rogue) is, are there or will there be replacement pads available? As someone who has torn through his fair share of vinyl, this is important, especially when not only does Rep offer replacement pads, but they have normal and wide pad options...
