I got the Ares 1.0 because they dropped the price to approximately $800 less than the listed price. I know the 2.0 is much more improved, but I can deal with the low row being so close to the ground and how far apart they are for $800 less. I can't be happier with my purchase.

I have a rogue drop in rhino and I asked about if they could do dual stack on the side with the pulleys. All I would need is for them to make the footplate for the rhino with holes to allow the stacks on, they said they were coming out with something along that design soon. Exciting stuff

@@jamiesoncostello wouldn’t be a weight stack loaded rhino, it would be a normal Drop in rhino with a 150lbs weight stack on each side of the rack. REP has been crushing the home gym strength scene for years now. And their new cardio looks innovative too. Rogue is too busy making overpriced bars/plates with nfl stickers. But that doesn't seem to be working since they sold some of their new cable attachments but had to drop their price weeks after launch. Seems desperate.

The FM HR (single stack) is completely irrelevant unless the rhino is very important to the user. It's unnecessarily deep (+22") meanwhile the Twin is comparable to the Ares and is only 5" deeper. If you're going to use the back posts for plate storage, then the Ares and Twin are equal but the single stack sticks out beyond your plate storage. Still waiting on the 4 post twin FT add on to drop. They only have the FM-6 twin add on available. If they have the 4 post twin FT available with the uprights, they should sell it without the uprights as well since some of us can convert our existing racks.

Coop, one aspect of 49" vs 47" that I don't see mentioned often is if you're tall or long-limbed having a wider inside can allow more elbow/knee room for benching and squatting and not hitting the safeties with wider stances/positions. I'm 6ft tall and MUCH prefer a wider interior rack, the small size difference is actually quite noticeable in use.
@billchurch4460
@billchurch4460 3 ай бұрын
I hear ya. I'm not even six foot, have Rogue's RM6 and even with the 49" width I find myself occasionally making contact with my safeties during certain exercises, certain positioning etc. I can't imagine what things might be like with less interior width, even if it's only two inches. Right now, it's a rare occurrence and more of a distraction when it does happen. With two less inches I could see it potentially being a problem.

Considering a purchase of the plate loaded single stack Rogue FM-HR (the half rack functional trainer) but cannot seem to find answers to two questions: (1) can the FM-HR be converted to a full rack later if and when I have more space; and (2) will the drop-in Rhino work on the plate loaded FM-HR or do I have to purchase the full rack? The main reason I am leaning towards the plate loaded version is to ensure the drop in Rhino can be added later but I need to know if it will work on the half rack or if the full rack is required. I am in the middle of building my Rogue 43” Twin Stack Functional Trainer (100” height in Burnt Orange since the rack is next to all of our KTM bikes) and am beyond IMPRESSED with the quality of EVERYTHING - Packaging - perfect, not a single ding or scratch, everything labeled and accounted for; Assembly instructions - while I’m only halfway through, it’s been a flawless assembly so far. We are just going slow because it’s still super hot here (SW UT and no mini split in the garage yet) and we like to MTB or dirt bike in the morning before we start work on our “erector set”; Build quality - again, so amazing. Everything is machined perfectly, fits perfectly, slides when it should slide and stays in place when it shouldn’t slide; Engineering - you can tell some serious thought went into the design of this product and how it all goes together while leaving options for future modifications. Side note: I also ordered a bunch of the “6 Shooter machined grip plates” but they were out of the 45# ones, so I got the Bells of Steel 45# grip plates. While the Bells of Steel plates are very nice and easy to move around, the Rogue 6 Shooter plates are just beautiful and I love them already. But the BoS plates were a lot cheaper so I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for good looking grip plates without breaking the bank.

To add more context, I order the single stack with 300lbs weight stack. I was told the twin stack is the same as the single stack just with two 150lbs stacks* vs a 300lbs stack on the single. With all the talks of a rhino drop in for the FM series, I wonder how that will work with only a 300lbs stack. I was also told the plate loaded has a 800lbs weight limit (the cables being the limiting factor). It seems the best bet would be opt for plate loaded to prepare for the Rhino drop in as this would allow up to 800lbs for a belt squat. I am thinking of changing my single stack to either the plate loaded or dual stack. I plan to call Rogue tomorrow to discuss further. Curious to hear others thoughts. *the two 150lbs stacks came from Rogue customer service on two different occasions.

Biggest question I have is regarding the 2:1 ratio on the SINGLE stack Rogue FM for the functional trainer aspect of the machine. If someone is doing a unilateral movement on the functional trainer handles it's my understanding that it will feel like half of the weight stack, but if both sides of the functional trainer at once on a single stack, will the weight on each extremity "feel like" 1/4 of the stack weight. For example, if stack is set to 100# , if I'm using only one of the functional trainer handles then I presume it will feel like 50#. However, if the handles are being used simultaneously (ie chest flies) then the shared "feels like" weight would be 25# on each arm? Anyone able to speak to this with certainty?

I contacted Rogue and they said both side would feel like 50 is the stack is set at 100. This is why the front pulley cable travel is so low compared to the twin stack.

@Noahbdh
@Noahbdh 3 ай бұрын
REP keeping the Ares 2.0 the same price as their 1.0 probably proves they arent increasing their margins. Rogue dropping prices like that, just makes me thing they were over charging for years, and now feel a drop off in volume.
@bobbyhunt3009
@bobbyhunt3009 3 ай бұрын
REP has definitely raised their prices. They have made their name now so look out World we are going to have TWO Rogues from here on out as far as pricing goes. Titan and BOS are the new REP for pricing but their Quality and Fit & Finish does not match REP's. This should open the door for Fringesport to become the Old REP but their pricing is entering the realm of Rogue and New REP so we have 3 very expensive companies who make Nice Equipment or we have 2 lower level pricing companies who make average equipment (Equipment Won't knock your socks off as far as Quality, Fit & Finish) but prices are lower.

@rjm656 3 ай бұрын
I'm not so sure. Look at what Rogue charges for some of their other items like lat pulldown or standalone functional trainer. Way more expensive. When Rogue released these FT attachments, they were more expensive, then they lowered the price a few weeks later. I think Rogue is just trying to compete and didn't get many takers at a premium price point with a product that isn't better than REP's.
@bobbyhunt3009

@@rjm656 You make a Great point!!!!! Rogue has always been so expensive to me that I never buy their stuff. I might've spoken prematurely with this one product that is comparable in price. Rogue charges such high prices, this one competitive price doesn't change who they are, they must offer more and more competitive prices before my statement is true. It does seem that REP, Titan, and BOS have raised their prices on their new stuff but REP and Fringesport are still much lower than Rogue. As far as functional trainers go Fringesport's Dane looks to have the heaviest weight stack due to it's 1:1 Ratio

The commercial gym I go to has some Rogue and Rep Fitness equipment (as well as others). I don't think the Rep Fitness equipment is comparable at all. Rogue equipment is just so much more robust. Honestly some of the Rep Fitness racks that they have seem flimsy in comparison. When I'm ready to purchase a functional trainer it's 100% going to be Rogue 🇺🇸. Sidebar, I split my training between my garage and commercial gym.

Prime Fitness' prodigy racks are still superior IMO. I just priced out a Rogue FM-HR twin functional trainer to make it look like my prodigy.... and it's pretty much the exact same price. Rep's ares is a bit cheaper.... but it's not the same layout.... well... neither is the Rogue's option but it's closer. And... if you opt for the Prime Prodigy plate loaded rack.... it IS about the same price as the Rep Ares rack... $4850. The prodigy plate loaded rack also uses black magic and allows you to change the pulley ratio on the uprights between 2:1 and 4:1. Don't get me wrong.... I'm thrilled other companies are finally pulling their head out of their ass and making rack-FT hybrid machines. I still think Prime Fitness' option is the best. Not saying one wouldn't be satisfied with a Rep or Rogue option. But I feel like people think those 2 are the only 2 options out there. Prime's prodigy racks are $5500 for the selectorized (stack.... dual 350 lb stacks that is... STANDARD... no upgrading to a heavy stack required) and $4850 for the plate loaded version. Rogue's FM-HR with half rack feet is $4945.... but with 300lb stacks..... not 350lb stacks. Assuming a CHEAP $1/lb.... IF they had a 350lb stack option that rack would be about.... $5050.... at least. The ares 2.0 I priced out to look similar to the prodigy was about $4900 as well. The only thing Rogue and Rep have on Prime is the shipping costs. That's about it. So I can't fault one for going with either of those companies. If I started from scratch though.... I might actually go with the Rogue option. But that's only because I live only like 3 hours away from Columbus... I'd just rent or borrow someone's truck and go pick it up myself. That and Rogue's monster line has a wider selection of rack attachments. That said... Prime is slowly picking up their game in that department.... slowly but surely catering a bit more to the home gym owner. Hell... when I went to prime's website years ago to build out my prodigy rack they didn't even post prices of their equipment on their website... they were one of "those" companies, haha. Not only that but prime is offering more attachments for their racks nowadays too. Stuff they offer I'm not sure Rogue or rep offers is an adjustable stability pad attachment for the functional trainer aspect of their rack. A pad that you can lean against for support while doing something like cable flies/ reverse- rear delt flies... etc. They also have that bench centering device.... assuming you also have their adjustable bench. Their RO-T8 adjustable pull up attachment is fucking phenomenal. All I'm saying is.... if you're in the market for a dual functional trainer-rack setup... don't forget about prime fitness. They're priced in line with Rogue for sure.... and imo Rep as well. Unlike Rep prime actually builds their own shit at their factory in PA. Which might actually be a deterrent for some as they will have a longer lead time... you know.... because they actually fabricate their own shit and just don't have a warehouse full of their Chinese stock. Remember when Coop and this Channel were all about American made products. I do. Those were the good old days. Haha. Now he's a salesman for Rep. I get it. I'm not faulting him for making a solid living. You gotta do what you gotta do. Integrity be damned. And it's not like Rep is a... terrible brand per se. It just... is what it is. Mass produced Chinese equipment. And that's fine. But when that mass produced Chinese stuff is only moderately cheaper than the options from Rogue or Prime.... I'd go with either of the latter two. As for you, Coop. It might sound like I'm digging on you and your channel. Some people have and don't like the way this channel has gone the last 2-3 years. I personally.... think it's incredible what you've done. Having started watching your content out of your garage with the ugly (no offense) plywood walls, haha, reviewing equipment to what this channel is now is impressive as hell. I can't help but congratulate you. That said.... you have become a whore for Rep.... likely because they pay you nowadays. I get it. But I remember when you weren't paid by anybody and when that was the case you were all about American made equipment and specifically Rogue. That's all I'm saying. Only thing I wish this channel would do more of is review a broader range of items. I get your target demo is new home gym owners.... but there's so much more out there than just racks, FTs, benches, bars, plates, dumbells, and cardio equipment. Would love to see more reviews of strength machines... legitimate machines (none of those plate loaded dual leg extension/curl "machines"). I know Rep doesn't make anything like that so you likely won't review many machines to compare it to Rep and then say Rep's version is better.... but this is an equipment review channel.... not a Rep review (marketing) channel.... right?..... RIGHT?! haha

Why doesn’t Rogue sell a twin functional trainer “add-on” option for 4 post monster racks. I messaged Rogue about this and they basically said that I had to convert my rack to a 6 post or buy the entire functional trainer. I had the old Rogue RML-3 (welded), which, as far as I can tell, is not compatible with the new FM line. Before the FM line was released I bought a PR 4000 with the intention of getting an Athena or Aries. Nothing against Rogue but they lost my business to rep by being late to market.

I own the 1.0 and saddened that my 1.0 became obsolete so quickly after I purchased it. Rep is offering previous owners 25% off to buy another ares system but that’s a large expense again. On comparison of these systems, they are similar in price and rogue quality I would say is possibly superior but you also receive REP rewards which allows you to buy more rep equipment.

Sounds like the Ares 2.0 is overall the better option: Heavier weight stack, smaller footprint, easier to use/smoother trolly system, more convenient cable routing on the trolly, dual pulleys add more versatility, low row allows using a bench as an option, and it's a cheaper price. Plus, I think it looks more badass. So extra point for style. Not really seeing a reason to consider Rogue over Rep here unless someone either wants the Rogue model that can be used with the Rhino, or is a stickler for buying products that are made is the US.
