@Shasi iishi about as useful as saying 'thoughts and prayers'. people who spam this shit on channels that happens to include Russians, which is something they have no control over, only do it to make themselves feel better. cause they just walk away thinking "yep, now everyone will think i stood up against tyranny". when all that happened is the person on the receiving end gets to feel a little worse about being a certain nationality. something they have NO control over.

One of my favorite things about this movie is how everyone of the characters had a different path to the resistance. A reluctant leader, a lifelong fighter, a defector, a pair of refugees, a reprogrammed droid; different walks of life coming to the same ship, and ultimately gave their lives for the cause. Really adds depth to the world they're in.

Tarkin was in A New Hope. It’s not the same actor because he passed away. They used cgi to recreate his face Tentacles I believe is the word you were looking for Chirrut is more attuned to the force than most but not enough to be classified as force sensitive. He can’t use it like a jedi, no mind tricks, no telekinesis, etc. He’s a master of the martial art Zama-shiwo (the inward eye of the outward hand), which allegedly allowed its users to alter their heart rate and oxygen intake, giving them almost supernatural abilities. Saw didn’t go with them because the war has taken a toll on him. Like he said “There’s not much of me left.” He has reinforced lungs he needs a breathing apparatus for, and a prosthetic leg that requires him to use cane, and who knows what else. He also probably would’ve slowed them down, and he wouldn’t want to do that. And he recognizes that he’s kind of become a monster. Yes! That’s Leia’s adoptive dad Bail Organa! If Bail’s there it makes sense R2 and 3PO would’ve been also 😁 Yes, digital recreation Leia

This movie is great on it's own but having that context makes it even better. I'd like to add that Saw and Anakin had a history together during the Clone War. Saw was an insurgent fighting against the droid army occupation of his planet and the Republic were supporting with supplies and training (by Obi Wan, Anakin, Asoka and Rex). I think they made Saw a mirror image to Darth Vader. Broken, encased in armor that is more of a prison. They even used some elements of Darth Vader's breathing sound for Saw's mask.

The reason the shots of the X-Wing pilots feels so familiar is that it is actually footage shot for the first Star Wars movie (Ep 4 - A New Hope) that they pulled from the archives and used it to create continuity to the next movie which starts about 5-10 minutes after this one finishes (chronologically).
@Ambaryerno

What they DIDN'T do is make sure that Red Leader's X-wing was actually painted like his X-wing in the original film (ILM had unique paint jobs for Red Leader, Two, Three, Four, Five, and Six, Red Twelve, and an eighth that MIGHT be Red Ten, but no one has found a clear enough picture to be sure). Sadly, by the time of the Special Edition the effects crews got lazy. For Rogue One, they just took Blue Leader's X-wing and palette-swapped it. Drewe Henley, the actor who actually played Red Leader, died the same year as Rogue One was released.

@@Ambaryerno "got lazy" - or, very possibly, had a very tight deadline. There are millions of decisions that have to be made, and priorities constantly re-arranged to fit the circumstances, and it's easy to run out of time to make a change that you hoped to have time to make but didn't. I wasn't there, so I have no idea what happened, but a lot of those vfx guys put a tremendous amount of work and love into things that are only on-screen for seconds, so I'm not sure "lazy" is the first would I would have reached for.
@Ambaryerno
@Ambaryerno 2 жыл бұрын
@@BigTroyT To put it in perspective, the guys who did the visual effects on the original film made no less than EIGHT unique X-wings (Red Leader, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, and Twelve have been confirmed from a combination of on-screen footage and photos from ILM's model shop. There aren't enough photos of the eighth to conclusively determine its identity, but is possibly Red Ten) all with their own paint jobs, and some of which even had different surface details (the engine "cans," for example, have different top straps and other raised details. Biggs' X-wing actually has a cut down exhaust nozzle on its upper left engine). Not only that, but some of those "Hero" models (highly-detailed models designed for closeups) had to be replicated as "Pyro" models (less detailed casts that were fitted with pyrotechnics so they could be blow'ed up). Keep in mind, these were all physical models! They had to be built, painted, wired for lighting, and rigged by hand out of plastic and resin, with details provided by parts scavenged from scores of plastic model kits (the X-wing's engine cowlings came from Saturn V rocket parts, while the engines themselves were from F-4 Phantom kits. The rear deck machinery was a combination of battleship and tank kits). I do a LOT of 3D model work, and believe me when I tell you that if you have a good workflow set up and you configure your material files correctly, a good texture artist could do a whole squadron of X-wings, each with unique markings, in a matter of a few days. However for Rogue One, they only made three: Blue Leader, Two, and Three, which they then "palette swapped" the squadron markings for Red Squadron (look at Blue Leader and Red Leader in Rogue One: Other than the color of the squadron stripes and ID tabs the markings are identical). So yes, I absolutely call it lazy.

Glad you liked this one. I think it's among the best of the new Star Wars movies. Fun fact: The reason it seems so familiar when the X-Wings attack the gate, is partially due to the fact that some of the pilot footage inside the cockpits, was shot for the original 1977 Star Wars, so some of the faces will look familiar. Also, we see the original "Red 5" get killed. Luke was the one that would eventually replace him. Another fun fact: The smaller, alien door gunner shooting out the AT-AT legs was played by Warwick Davis, who at age 10, played "Wicket W. Warrick" in "Return of the Jedi" the Ewok that befriended Princess Leia on Endor.

I'm so glad you finally did this one! I've been waiting for you to finally watch this. IMO, Rogue One is the BEST Star Wars movie. I went in not knowing how this would go and it blew me out of the water. I also spent a massive chunk of this movie both crying and cheering. I did not expect to get so attached to this rag tag bunch like I did, but I started crying the moment K2SO sacrificed himself. I knew, without a doubt, that ALL of them were going to die. And each death just GUTTED ME. That scene with Cassian and Jyn on the beach where they hug and watch the explosion knowing that they were going to die, but also knowing that they got the plans out to save the rebellion and that they weren't alone in the end.... Ugh, it KILLED ME. And also like you, I SCREAMED when Vader was in the dark corridor just breathing menacingly before igniting his saber. That man literally turned off his life support on his suit so the chest panel wouldn't light up JUST SO HE COULD MAKE A TERRIFYING ENTRANCE. Vader is the most EXTRA person to exist and that's bc Anakin was ALSO the most dramatic, extra BAMF to exist. Vader's dramatics and deadpan humor is PROOF that Anakin is still alive in him.

@@clutchpedalreturnsprg7710 The big thing I noticed about R1 is that it is in a different genre than the trilogies. Those are epic heroes' journeys. R1 is more like a war film, such as the Guns of Navaronne or the Dirty Dozen. Lots of those were made between WW2 and Vietnam, and a lot of them had all the main characters learning to work together despite their differences and then ultimately dying in the course of heroically fulfilling their mission. Solo was yet another genre, a caper movie like Ocean's (pick a number) or The Italian Job. This leads me to suspect that Disney's plan for the Star Wars franchise is to recreate everything Hollywood has ever done but translated to the Star Wars universe. That could keep them in seemingly fresh material for a long time. But R1 wasn't just a war movie, it was a pretty damn good war movie even by the standards of real our-universe war movies, and that was pretty damn impressive.

Good morning Dasha! You've found one of my favorite "Disney Era" Star Wars movies. If you haven't watched them yet, you should definitely watch the animated SW series The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, and Rebels. The character of Saw Guerrera was introduced in Clone Wars, but also appeared in Rebels. He has a pretty tragic backstory that I won't spoil. Let me just say that there's a valid reason that he is such an extremist. Cassian Andor is a character we will learn more about, possibly later this year, when he gets his own "prequel" show called "Andor". Obviously, he dies in this movie, so the series will take place prior. Filming has wrapped for it, and it's in post-production now. 2:25 - Cassian wouldn't have killed his informant if he had been able to escape with him. In a way, Cassian did him a favor (as odd as that sounds) because the Empire would certainly have tortured him until he gave up the information he passed onto Cassian. He did what he did to protect the Rebellion as well as prevent the informant from a long-suffering death. K2-SO is my new favorite droid. 6:55 - Fun fact: The actor who played K2-SO actually but accidentally connected with Cassian's face in the slap. If you look closely, you can see Cassian using his hand to hide the smile he got from it. 10:15 - Saw knew that if he tried to leave with them, in the condition he was in, it would cost all of them their lives. He died as he lived, putting the fight against the Empire first, before anything else, including his own life. You saw (pun intended) that he had robotic legs and had trouble walking. There was no way he would have made it out of there. 23:00 - Yes, they included some "unused" footage from the original movie for the squadron leaders. That was a nice touch, I think. 28:38 - This was Vader at the height of his power. Before he found out his son was alive, and the "Anakin" within him started to re-emerge. He was fully emersed within the Dark Side at this point. 29:00 - Rogue One butts right up to Episode IV, and they make a perfect double feature. When I saw Rogue One in theaters, I immediately hauled ass home to watch Episode IV. I cannot watch one without watching the other, at this point. I saw the original Star Wars in theaters back in 1977 and have watched it well over 1000 times since. But ever since Rogue One came out, I simply can't watch either of them alone. 29:28 - Yes, Leia was in fact digitally "face swapped" with an actor who played her on set. The audio of her speaking was done with audio from A New Hope. Much like Tarkin on the Death Star, a stand-in actor was motion captured and had the face replaced with digital technology. They weren't "perfect", but I still give credit where it's due. They did a damned good job of it, even if it wasn't perfect. My only criticism of this movie is that it COULD have been longer. We could have gotten a little more backstory on some characters, but I still love the movie as it stands.

You're correct, that was a digital creation of Princess Leia as well as Grand Moff Tarkin from the original Star Wars movie. Rogue One is (in my opinion) the only good Star Wars movie Disney ever made. I truly hope you don't watch the "sequel" movies. They split the Fandom and made a mockery of the Cannon from the original 6 Star Wars movies by George Lucas.

@@MadSlantedPowers To each their own. I was willing to give the trilogy a chance and then after only seeing The Last Jedi a single time in the movie theatre (and a guy in a wicked Kylo Ren costume quickly left the theatre before the credits finished). I knew something was wrong. Then the hate and vitriol from Rian Johnson cemented my dislike for that trilogy. So that old saying about protesting with your money or your feet. I have not, nor will I ever watch the final movie. I have not supported Disney since and believe me when a company starts feeling it in the financial reports...you know it's working. As for Reactors. I simply click on a video and do a dislike and click away. You an call it childish if you want...but I'm allowed to feel how I feel as much as you are. When you stoop to the point of name calling and trying to de-legitimize a persons opinion. That just tells me my words and actions struck a nerve and were effective. 😏

Great reaction as always! Now I think, you are a Star-Wars-Expert yourself! I think Gerrera was literally too slow to escape the attack of the Death Star and he didn`t want to endanger the others if they are trying to rescue him. Then, I think, the Death Star didn`t choose a "point" to shot, but made a first test-run. The first real "demonstration" was in, as you know, Episode IV with Alderaan.

I have been a huge Star Wars fan since I first saw A New Hope in the theaters, multiple times, when it came out in 1977. I was 2 years old and dad got me hooked! Before Rogue One, I would have said that I'm an Original Trilogy fan...now I say that I'm an Original Quartet fan as I've added Rogue One to A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. I LOVE Rogue One! It's a very Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven film and a great addition to the Star Wars Universe!

The scenery just in the beginning is shot near a town called Vík. And the beaches all around Iceland are mostly like this pitch black sand. But this is near that town in the south east part of Iceland. I really like this movie and the droid is just awesome. Its really compelling when a robotic character like that can bring me to tears when it dies. That's a sign of a good character. Also the last 30-40 mins of the movie is one of the best Star Wars thing since Lucas did the prequels, phenomenal stuff. And the ending where it ends just before New Hope would begin, really nice touch.

You manage to provide commentary without missing any details and you have a good knowledge of Star Wars to recognize the connections to the rest of the franchise. If you haven't seen it already, I would highly recommend the Andor TV show to complement Rogue One.

Trivia: Anthony Daniels was jokingly disgruntled that Alan Tudyk was allowed to play K-2SO in the relative comfort of a motion-capture suit, whereas Daniels had to endure years of discomfort and injuries in the C-3PO costume. Daniels laughingly cursed at Tudyk after Rogue One's premiere. Tudyk later said that a "F*** you" from Daniels was one of the highest compliments he had ever received. Great reaction, Dasha👍

In English we say "Kill 2 birds with 1 stone". but it's the same idea. Loved your reaction when you realized that only ONE PERSON in the history of movies could cast a large shadow like that... Darth Vader! :) You were right to recognize the 2 pilots in the X-Wings... "Red Leader and Gold Leader". During the filming of Star Wars (1976 was when most of it was filmed) the actors would make 3-5 takes of the same scene, saying the same words in slightly different ways. The director and editor would pick the version they liked the best and add it to the movie, and cut the rest. The scene's in this movie were the speaking scenes that was left out of the original Star Wars. Lucky for us, Lucas Films still had all the old takes and scenes that didn't make it into the original Star Wars, but they added unused scenes with Red Leader and Gold Leader almost 40 years later! And I could tell that you recognized the interior of the ship, but you could not find the words, just before the BIG reveal at the end of the movie with the Galaxy's favorite Princess! :) Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie, tied with The Empire Strikes Back.

A lot of great easter eggs in this movie, the writers paid attention. 1. Saw Guerra is in the Clone Wars series 2. In a New Hope when Tarkin and the other Officers are at the table where Vader chokes the guy, there is an empty seat. That seat was Krennics seat 3. Chopper from Star Wars Rebels can be seen briefly and Hera Sendula from Star Wars Rebels is called over the loud speaker. The Ghost from Star Wars Rebels is also seen during the final attack. Best Disney era Star Wars movie by a mile!

Sceneries: Iceland and Jordan desert are beautiful add to this the gorgeous cinematography by Gareth Edwards... The scale he gives to shots is really good, something JJ Abrams couldn't get remotely close to in the Sequel trilogy... If you watch Clone Wars and Rebels, you'll learn about Saw Gerrera's past and how he came to be that radicalized rebel that the Rebellion didn't want to interact with anymore. He lost a lot of his life and himself in those ongoing wars (spanning over 25 years give or take... That man is broken. Funny how the SW movie with no Jedi makes you understand that the Force is still there, mystical and real at the same time. Chirrut might be slightly Force Sensitive, not enough to be a Jedi but enough to fight like he does with some training. And as you have probably guessed is a member of the Church of the Force, the civilian ans secular branch of the Jedi Order. What he is makes you understand that one must submit to the Force and not just control it. The Force controls all of these characters destinies and then they die when they have accomplished their purpose to the Force. Something Qui Gon Jinn was into in Phantom Menace, submit to the Force opposite of trying to make it bow to your views, that's why Qui Gon acepted that Anakin's future might be bad, it was the Will of the Force. The arrogant Jedi Order tended to consider him a radical in a way because of his view on the Force. "We need a statement, not a manifesto", go and tell that to some dictator invaiding a certain country right now. Here the Death Star is just operating at minimal power. It is quite powerful already as you can see... You are surprised of Krennic's action to kill the scientists either way, remember Tarkin when he blows Alderaan either way even when Leia seemingly confessed the location of the Rebel base. Notice that without Rogue One's sacrifice, the Empire nearly one with just firing a single shot... Stay safe in those troubled times.
