@@HomeGymHacksandReviews fair enough That belt squat will definitely be a quality purchase but. Excellent versatility acting as a low pulley system too. As you say on the video, I wonder if Rogue will do a high pulley for it too. They've shown they're capable of merging machines together like the Donkey Reverse hyper/GHD combo I would say if they do do a belt squat/lat pulldown combo, that lat pulldown seat they sell for the Monster racks would attach somewhere on the platform and the high pulley attached somewhere above where the plates go then probably extends over the platform a bit Would be fairly high though due to the elevated platform, so probably 2.5m tall maybe?
@HomeGymHacksandReviews
@HomeGymHacksandReviews 3 жыл бұрын
@@redwhiteandblueblood there are two holes at the front end of the platform, which makes me think there are plans for something. Also, with the uprights having settings / holes, I think other add-ons are in the works. Good point about the Donkey. It just seems odd that Rogue doesn’t have a decent plate loaded pulldown option when Powertec attached a high / low pulley to a power rack over 15 years ago.

The Rhino. It’s been my number one machine from the day I got it. A lot of equipment has come and gone since I started this channel, but the Rhino remains. It’s also far more versatile than most leg machines. As for the Powertec Squat / Calf; technically it’s not a pendulum squat, although I started using it like one. It’s a good machine, has a smaller footprint than the Rhino, and it will save you a lot of money.

I have tried standing rows, which are fine; although it’s not an exercise I perform often. If the range of motion is too short for the exercise you want to do, you can add daisy chains, long handles, etc., which would increase the ROM of the exercise.

Your stance, shoes, the use of wedges, etc can make it more quad dominant. Also, your position in relation to the cable can have an impact. Some people position themselves too far away from the carriage. There is a study floating around showing the SquatMax most closely mirrors the Barbell squat. Rhino came in second. I have a couple of questions. How do you like calf raises and donkey calf raises on this? Also could you do a hip thrust if you elevated your feet? I am thinking about purchasing this plus an RM-3 rack and setting it up like a drop-in since that would allow me to add a belt squat while only taking up about 8 additional square feet of space. Would the four uprights or plate storage on the rear uprights affect the functionality of the belt squat portion? Thanks!
@jeffwalker1830
@jeffwalker1830 2 жыл бұрын
I should add I already have a rack that takes up 53 inches of depth on the floor, so a rhino attached to a 30 inch rack would add about 6 inches of depth. I could do 100% of my rack work on a half rack with the exception of squats, and the belt squat solves that issue. I was thinking of getting the rogue monster utility seat to attach to the spotter arms for use as a back rear on hip thrusts and possible as a step up platform.
@HomeGymHacksandReviews
@HomeGymHacksandReviews 2 жыл бұрын
Calf raises and donkey calf raises are good and I prefer those to loading my spine with heavy weight. A calf block on the platform is likely a better option than performing calf raises on the edge simply for a more vertical line of drive. The plate storage should not impact the functionality of the Rhino. I almost went with a drop-in when I couldn’t get the stand-alone due to it being out-of-stock. Luckily, the stand-alone became available before I spent the extra money for a rack. Like you, my plan was to do most of my barbell work on the outside of my rack.
@jeffwalker1830
@jeffwalker1830 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick response! How much space behind the rhino do you need to accommodate a standard 45 lb plate? I have grip plates so I don’t need much more than an inch or two between the plates and the wall. I do plan to use the band pegs as well. And would you prefer a smith machine or the rhino for calf raises and other leg work? I’m trying to decide between adding this or switching out my powertec lat pull down for an inspire ft2. Thanks again and have a great day!

@@jeffwalker1830 I have 13” between the wall and the Rhino. The band pegs stick out farther than any other part of the Rhino which is where I measured from. I prefer the Rhino over a Smith for leg work, but I use both because I have a lot of variety in my training. For Pulldowns, my choice will be a lat pulldown over a functional trainer unless the functional trainer has built-in leg roller pads (most don’t). If you have the space, I wouldn’t sell your lat pulldown and I would eventually add the other two pieces (from personal experience, I usually regret selling equipment unless I really dislike it or don’t have a need for it).

Thanks again. Yes I would love to have both but I’m very limited on space. The inspire ft2 has a high/low pulley and you can hold your legs down with the smith bar. It also has a functional trainer so it functions as 3 machines in a 60x58 footprint. I would actually love for you to review it! If I could squeeze both in I would have a smith machine, hi/low pulley, functional trainer, belt squat, and half rack all in a smallish dining room.

The issue I found with this... or other similar belt squat. The unbalance result. Stronger legs yes. But barely any core engagement. Not much lower back enagagement. A barbell squat is still king as it forces the upper body/core to engage/build.. 2nd best option is the supersquat machine. Belt squat is good as a warm up or finisher. Should not be used to strictly develop legs, especially going real heavy. Disproportionate result... that can cause pain and injury

I see what you’re saying and you make a valid argument. If I could squat, I would squat. However, my days of loading a heavy barbell and putting it on my back are over. Also, there are some people, I’m pretty sure I am one, who the squat just isn’t a great exercise due to structure, flexibility, etc. Also, I train my core in a lot of ways directly and indirectly. This machine has been a game changer for me and has resulted in a lot less pain and 0 injuries compared to my days of barbell squatting.

Nothing major, but nowadays, I play it overly safe with all of my exercises. For example, I don’t do barbell rows or straight bar deadlifts either.

I went from, “why the f would anyone want one of these?” to, “ok- I actually need this in my life!” 😂😂 Did you replace the plastic pulley wheel with a metal one, or do you think it’s unnecessary? Top, top review btw!! 👏🏼👍🏼

Thank you so much! lol! I’ve had this machine for a while, and I like it as much today, as the day I got it. I didn’t replace the wheel, and it is probably unnecessary.

Have you experienced fraying when using as low row?
@HomeGymHacksandReviews
@HomeGymHacksandReviews 3 жыл бұрын
No; because inside of the platform, there are round rollers that the cable travels over. That was one of my initial concerns before I got it.

@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Interesting- I though the same thing and somehow I managed it! I was using a neutral grip handle with clients and after a few circuits I noticed. But it tore up the cable.... I noticed a slice in the cable when I put together and didn't think anything of it. Maybe that? Or I have at the end of my garage so there is a slope - could that impact you think ?
@HomeGymHacksandReviews
@HomeGymHacksandReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hard to say for sure. Do you have the plastic pieces covering each of the bolts the cable touches? (I think there are 2 or 3) Best case scenario, it could be just a small surface scratch in the vinyl that coves the cable or it could be more severe than that. If it’s just a surface scratch, I would cover it with electrical tape but check periodically to see if it’s getting worse. If you are really concerned about it, and you may be because you have clients using it, you could reach out to Rogue and see if they can send a replacement cable.

Put the belt lower, more around your hips and sacrum, to further reduce shearing. When doing the Bell squat movement, look straight ahead, not down.

I don’t even notice it. When I used my old spud inc belt and the loading pin, I would need to wear an extra layer on my legs, but this newest model Rogue belt is really comfortable.

Hello I have a new Rhino and not satisfied withe the "feeling". For me it feels like, that there is a lot of tension and it doesn't feel as smooth as working out with a weighted belt. Did I something wrong with the installation?? Thanks a lot for your answer! Appreciate!! 🙂

That’s tough for me to diagnose without seeing it, feeling it, and hearing it. It should be super smooth and super quiet. If there is an issue, it would be with the cables and they should go under the stoppers and not over the stoppers.
