Laning in league of legends can be understood as neutral in fighting games. Champions are comprised of zones defined by ranges of their abilities and auto attacks, and multitude of various other factors. Then it's just a set of edgings between each other in real time. You put this base concept with minion waves and the jungler and you have what is known as -top lane-

if NA truly goes for a 0-18 with even a wild card team in one of their groups, that region is truly doomed. could consider reducing actual groupstage-lock teams and add more wildcard play ins, so the bad teams get filtered out earlier

I think at that point, they should really look into changing the world's format all together, especially with it being such a hot button issue recently. I've seen several good possible formats being proposed from league figures, I hope Riot considers them. As for NA, they seem very lost in groups so far and they seem to be performing unusually bad this year (even for NA). Not sure if it's the gap getting bigger or simply a combination of things in the league that led to a lower level of play (i.e. TL's roster imploding, EG underperforming and their adc having to take mental leave, C9 Roster changes/LS coach drama mid split, etc.).

​@@Whyisthatlamptalking I'd actually love some swiss stage style play ins. like... take the 12 regular play ins teams, add the 4 pool 3 teams to get 16 teams in there. only thing im not sure is how to initially seed the swiss stage, perhaps its just lottery and afterwards seeding is done by game length or sth. teams with 3 wins are through, teams with 3 loses are out. at worst any team has to play 5 games, at best 3. its also some variety to the other formats of groups and knockouts. thus it wouldnt be as bad for the actual good teams, because they can get through play ins fast and be done with it (and the shit teams get eliminated equally fast) and you have some decently competetive games at the end of it for sure. last thing to do would be to figure out how to then seed the 8 teams into the 4 groups. (if you keep the groups and dont scrap that alltogether)

I Think a good way to refer to the pre-objectives skirmishes is that they are "Taxing" fights, because the goal in these isn't really to directly gain something from it for yourself but rather force the opponents to lose important ressources (Summoners, ultimates, sometimes even just vision or waves) making it harder for them to stabilize and set-up before the more important fights.
