Just built this in Bedrock 1.17.34. It DOES work, and it works well for a 100% AFK solution. The rate is just very slow, and works best as a passive trickle farm over long periods of time... so be sure to build it near your base so it stays active.

So I just finished making this whole setup and the sticky pistons aren't triggering... I've tried placing mushrooms myself to test it and the pistons won't move at all. The Observer is facing the correct way (towards the mushroom) and there's a redstone torch on the back of the Observer as pictured. Anyone know why it's not being triggered? I've tried it now with several combinations of things (with or without redstone torch, with redstone block, etc) and I can't get the pistons to respond to any block changes.

Do you see the redstone torch turn off? If you dont see it turn off then your problem is with that

I built this exactly as shown and it works very well, but I do have mushrooms spawnning on top of the observers. If I put a row of glass on top of the observer's, would that force the mushrooms to spawn in the two podsol rows, or would I just miss those spawns?

Place glass. It does work. I built almost this exact build in my test world and glass will keep it from growing there.

A R Sticky pistons should be placed with an air gap between it & the podzol.

I ran a test and make sure you do not use mushrooms in your setup mushrooms spread in clusters it will literally stop working if you have 5 mushrooms of the same type in a certain area

If you build the farm too large than the mushrooms will not be able to spread since they would've already reached a cap, that could be the issue

Do you have a redstone block or seething powering the block next to the hopper for your rail line? If so, just move you redstone block or whatever you have powering you hopper to the other side of the build.

built in 1.20.1 i think its working but the mushrooms arent spreading to the podzol very much the spread to the observers first. is there some kimd of bug or is this normal?

Mushrooms can grow on any block as long as it is dark enough

so, in the wiki it says they wont spread if there are more than 5 in a 9x9x3 area, is this outdated? cause every spread based farm I see have a lot more than 5 shrooms in the area... I'll start a new "dwarf" project and go underground asap, with a sapling or two to get the sticks for the picks and torches and stuff and was considering having my nutrition based mostly on mushrooms, I'm trying to understand all I can and throw in as many farms as possible before I even have a decent stock bonemeal, so, do they really spread after 5? They will not spread if same type mushroom more than 5. Thats why they put 4 each different type.

Make sure you have the redstone torch on the back of the observer and make sure the face of the observer is facing where the mushroom will grow.

@@NeoTuck25 from the design here it needs the torch. The piston is extended because of the torch. Without it, the piston would not be extended and therefor wouldn't have anywhere for the mushroom to grow.

Took a lot longer to make in survival than it should have but very nice, do I have to be nearby for mushrooms to grow? Why does the cart always get stuck on nothing

Minecraft getting stuck is a glitch in minecraft. Happens sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. And yes, you have to be near the mushrooms or within render distance of the mushrooms so that it is loaded within the chunk.

This doesn’t seem to work anymore. I only have 4 modules with brown mushrooms, 8 mushrooms total between the 2 center layers. Nothing has spawned in almost 3 hours of AFK.

Same for me but 10 modules (20 mushrooms total). I used trap doors on top instead of glass but I can't imagine that affecting it.

seems like it might be due to this mechanic, according to the minecraft wiki, mushrooms can spread to other blocks "if there are fewer than five mushrooms of the same type in a 9×9×3 volume around the original mushroom." I'm removing all but 2 mushrooms to see if they start spreading. If that works, you'd need to stick to 4 units total, with 4 of each mushroom type, for it to work at all

@@MikeRougeau mine does work now but it's so slow it's not really useful. Take a grass block to the nether, place a brown mushroom, and bone meal it. It will grow into a giant mushroom and you can harvest it for brown mushrooms. I spent maybe 15mins doing this and have all I could ever need.

yes, but you will need to keep the light lvl low. Podzol is easy to make so it's just making everything easier

You would have to use a silk touch tool on the large mushrooms to get the mushroom block. Hope that helps!

So instead i put redstone torches then i put mushrooms by manually so the observers would sense the mushroom and make the sticky pistons go back when it sense the shrooms and then the pistons put the dirt back and now everytime a shrook grows the observers picks it up, if this happened to anyone else, i hope this helps
