So Mike said that they were going through all the files and thought this song only had the rap verses recording but found out chester recorded his parts.

You're also over 30 and by your facial expressions I can see all the memories coming back to you, the same way it happened to me. It's crazy paying attention to the lyrics today because they hit much harder. Mike's lyrics are depressing here, but Chester's voice is loaded with sorrow and anger. Goosebumps.

The small part towards the end where Chester voice echoes in the background "inside of me" just raised this song to another level. These small small details that LP mixes in the track are sooo goooooood.🔥

No doubts it's another masterpiece of LP. And this band and my life are inseparable. I love reactions of millennials. Because it was our time. But still it sounds so actual and beautiful my god it's like we never grew up and it feels awesome.

Mike wrote these lyrics, not Chester. People keep retroactively misreading Mike's lyrics as being Chester talking about his depression, and it's really getting to be a problem.

Mike has said that he took a lot of what Chester says and puts them into songs, basically writing from Chester’s perspective. Maybe that’s just something he said to help people feel more connected to the songs.. idk

@@ImCarpet There's a video called "In My Eyes: Mike Shinoda, Co-Founder of Linkin Park and Fort Minor", and near the end he answers a few questions, and one thing he says is that the majority of the time he would write the words that Chester would sing, and sometimes he would write from his own perspective, sometimes from Chester's, and sometimes from both their perspectives. He's also said that when they wrote together, they would usually start with a first draft Mike wrote about something he was feeling, then Chester would listen to it, and connect it to something totally different in his life that evoked the same feeling, and even though they were relating the words to completely different situations, they would focus on that shared feeling, and bounce ideas back and forth on how to bring that feeling out in the words, without really describing any specific situation, so that listeners would then relate that feeling to their own lives.

@@PenneySounds That’s a really good explanation. Thanks! I’ll check out that video for sure.

I get so tripped up on these new linkin park songs because they meant so much to me growing up and I really appreciate that I can see that in you too.

This song didnt make the cut because LP was set on a 12 song limit for Meteora and was not used for Minutes to Midnight because they wanted to go in a different writing direction.

The thing I heard about it was that this had all the verses but no chorus, and then while looking through a bunch of files from 2003 a producer mike was working with found the stems of the chorus, so they put it together, least thats what I can recall.

You are correct on the missing samples. More backing fill would hit a little better. Having said that. Hearing Chester again hurts my heart. He is the Rock death that I'm still not over.

It wasn't even finished /finalised and mastered before they dropped it. Which is a shame cause this could have been an absolutely awesome release! I mean just judging by what was done and Mike sewed together for us sounds real good. Can you imagine it? Mike would have polished his lyrics, More fill/samples, The ending tweaked and polished by both Mike and Chester.... Oh well that's life. Still great to hear stuff from their histrionic vault of binned goodness :)
