Nice deep dive. Liked your Roll20 version but this one provided excellent insights to your layering of how you broke these down

I'll be using some of these in my upcoming Spelljammer campaign. Thanks for the review!

Which ones did you end up using?

FWIW, while I agree with your meh take on Salted Legacy (not my jam) a friend of mine played it and she and het group had an absolute blast with it. I think, generally, these 2 anthology books (Candlekeep and this) have been pretty high quality, but there's just been a signficant number of adventures in them that just don't appeal to me. Which is, obviously, totally okay. But it does mean that I find it hard to believe there's a DM out there who wants to run *all* of these.

Purchasing a la carte would be a huge advantage if it were available, as I also only want to run about half of these, at best.

@@RogueWatson Yes, 100%, the way they did for Yawning Portal. i know those were kuch larger dungeon crawls, but, like, $3 an adventure? I'd buy them.

Just seen this book start to pop up in shops over the last month or so and I was intruiged. Might steal the ideas of a couple of the adventures but there's not enough here to make me fork over £40 for it.

Totally fair, it'd be nice if you could pick and choose and get only the ones you want. Hope this video helped!

I had no real interest in this book because I wanted stronger content but it seems like this is a repeat of Rime of the Frostmaiden where conceptually, there is a lot there but in the end, it will take more fixing than anything. Not really interested in paying for partial successes. Hopefully Roll20 will sell the book piecemeal so I can get Written in Blood, Orchids of the Invisible Mountain or Fiend of Hollow Mine separately from the entire book. What were your thoughts on the actual new NPCs, monsters, maps, etc that are included? Would they be useful outside of this compendium or not for the price? I will be more interested in seeing how well the Pathfinder adventure, Abomination Vaults, performs in the 5E community when it is released in March 2023.

Having all the token art for named NPCs is nice for the art gallery, but there's only about a dozen new monsters (averaging one new creature per adventure). Probably not worth the price if you're not running at least some of the adventures. I agree that it'd be nice if you could purchase the individual modules a la carte, especially as they can be individually added via Add-ons. Not sure what you mean by stronger content, though. The adventures here are mostly just as good, if not better, than other official WotC 5e adventures, and there's a huge variety of locations, genres, tone, length, etc.

@@RogueWatson what I meant by stronger content is for more than half of the adventures, your reviews started with… “I love this concept” but typically ended with some version of: the delivery being sub-par or requiring a fix of some kind… almost good. Kinda horror. Not really a strong enough fight based on the level. These comments make me feel like it is Rime of the Frostmaiden 2.0. There is a schedule for delivery of a project and we got a “kinda” product with a few stars in the pile. It’s one thing to adapt a product for your group and your play style. It’s completely different to change things because it feels like it doesn’t quite cut it.

For the bottom half, yeah, I try to offer some constructive criticism. But the top half are pretty dang solid adventures that don't feel half-baked at all.
