We have public and private schools as well but what he's referring to is the syllabus, which is recognised by the Government.

The basic structure goes like this: SSC is governed by individual states, CBSE is run by the Central Government (what you'd call Federal in the US) and has a reputation for being objectively better in every conceivable way (and is less likely to be overrun by religious nut jobs throwing in our version of Creationism or ID in it). Any kid in India would have the same textbooks, curriculum and grading system. Teachers, school infrastructure and curriculum in general are of a higher standard. ICSE is considered to be even better but it's a private school board (not government-affiliated) and is regarded as a more modern, forward-looking curriculum that aspires to do things beyond math, science and languages and also includes things like drama, music, art etc. ICSE schools also tend to be more expensive which creates a bit of social class stratification - everyone knows what the ICSE schools in their city are and telling people your kid goes there is always a bit of a flex and implies your kids will generally be more adept at speaking English and have extra-curricular skills and interests. IB (International Baccalaureate) is a school curriculum run by a Swiss foundation. It's pretty much popular with wealthy or upper middle class folks, those were about $10,000+ an year in my city . That's a lot in a country with a $1700 per capita annual income.

ICSE are schools are more expensive?? What??? My ICSE school's fee was just ₹500/month when I was studies there from 7th to 10th standard whereas after that when I shifted to CBSE, the admission fees was hella expensive. And my CBSE school was way better than ICSE because they actually had more than 25 different clubs and societies which ICSE didn't had. All ICSE focused on was rote memorization and only studies. NOTHING ELSE! 🤢

@@bratindas5814 Ah, good to know, must have changed since my time in school. Back when I was in school it was pretty basic, though I do recall SUPW until 5th which was sort of Arts & Crafts. We did have Co-Curricular Activities but it was just teachers winging it, not like a formal course in Music or Drama or similar.

Public schools in India are in terrible shape(Except in Delhi, which has allocated 25% of its budget to Education). Also different schools are affiliated to different boards.(there are 2 central boards, 1 board for each state). So, Rohan is spot on when he says that there is a disparity among all these.

Guys, there is another school system in the USA which is the IB school system that the comic is talking about. International baccalaureate. This is the only system that doesn’t require SATs for Ivy admissions. This is a common school system across Americas, Europe, Middle East, Australia and Africa.

In india, private schools are called public school and public schools are called government schools.

SSC & HSC are the certificates provided by MH State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE). ICSE & ISC are the certificates provided by Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). I don't know what certificates CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) provides for 10th and 12th exams. I don't know what IGCSE is either.

In India government schools are not good, bad in some areas and worse in some areas but yes very few government schools are amazing. Government schools have little different syllabus, little different systems depending on the state but it is funded by the central government as well. Private school are better and many private schools are awesome. Privates are affiliated by some or the other education system like CBSE (It is the system by Central Government); ICSE (It is a private Indian organization); IB, International Baccalaureate, is an international formal education system organization; these private school can also be afflicted with state education boards + these has to follow some compulsory thing told by state or central government in which it doesn't matter to which body they are affiliated with. And there are Madrasas which are Muslims/Islamic schools in which Islamic scholarly things are taught and with time they are incorporating others subjects also like social science, EVS, life sciences, physical sciences, etc. And there is a school system run by Hindu organization rss if I remember correctly those schools are called vidyamandir like Saraswati Vidya Mandir in which their way is taught and they too are incorporating newer subjects. I might be forgetting some other system. And yes private schools be it a resident scholar school or day scholars or both It is affiliated with one of these system. Schools can have any kind of activities, stuff blah blah but they have to teach the things the system they are affiliated with. All these come under more or less regulations of Education Ministry of central and state governments. And rarity there are Gurukuls also, the old style system.
