That is indeed an HDMI "B" Dual-link connector. They were never used, hdmi spec 1.3 came and increased the speed without needing more diff pairs.

When getting a Rhode&Swartz the first thing to do is recover from the price tag.

Nah you just get the base model and hack the firmware for free upgrades.
@philippeannet7 жыл бұрын
R&S is not precisely known for their 'hackability'... so far, nothing known for recent scopes...
@DOGMA11387 жыл бұрын
all the upgrades are done via software licenses only on the same base model, you don't even really need to reflash the firmware you just need to know the serial number of the scope to generate a license key.
@philippeannet7 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah ??? With what algorithm, please ?????? This is the case for many, many brands and models, but the generation scheme is far from being 'public', and while some brands/models are cracked, some (and R&S is one of them !) remain unharmed so far ! If you've got hot news, I'd glad to hear it !!!

Looks pretty fancy, but I still dont get the glaring screen. Having finally played with a new R&S scope at uni I do really like the intuitive user interface they put on it with the touch screen. Worked a lot better than I thought.

As you would expect from R&S.

Shiny screen is only an issue if there are lights reflecting off it when in normal position - in this case an antiglare screen protector is a reasonable fix ( and protects against scratches) , though the Keysight glass antiglare screen is a lot better.

I own an RTB2004 and I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to an RTM3004. One thing that I find a bit annoying about the RTB2004 is that the UI feels a bit sluggish when switching modes, navigating menus and such. I wonder if the RTM3004 is more snappy, that would be a big plus for me.

MIL-STD-1553 is still used in aerospace but modern systems uses SpaceWire or ARINC which you will find in every modern airplane.

MIL-STD-1773 is the military standard used for fly by light. There are still plenty of military aircraft being developed with MIL-STD-1553B though.

Fantastic idea with the USB communication choice on the active probes. Why go to the length of designing your own protocol when USB can already do what you need? Does make me wonder what happens if you conect the USB interface on the probe to a PC... I'm sure windows would just be like wtf is this, but linux may actually have some interesting things to play with

That power analyzing functionality would be so so great to wipe out the Fluke 17xx. Getting 3 phases with full power analysis ability at 10 bit then being able to correlate it against vibration analysis tooling = a process engineers wet dream. I'm guessing their power measurement functionality is more for single phase applications (seeing how clean your SMPS is, etc) and IoT/MIMO stuff. That scope basically seems absolutely perfect as for you as a dev (rather than a field) instrument though considering what you do (lots of power problems for CC with LEDs and then tons of uc stuff so UART/i2c).

Mmmm, no thanks. I think that I'll hang on to my Rigol DS1054Z (which "fell" on its head, and now thinks that it is a DS1104Z). $349 USD, and it does everything a home enthusiast could hope for. It's also my work scope, and at 350 bucks, it isn't the end of the world if it walks off on the job.
@uzaiyaro6 жыл бұрын
MrWaalkman it’s a completely different part of the market, though. The rigol is an awesome scope and nobody says otherwise, it’s just that mixed signal scopes can get pricey real quick. $350 for an oscilloscope is about as cheap as they will ever get, there’s no room to move on that sort of price. And you sure as hell are not getting *any* mixed signal scope for much change from a grand.

@DonkeyLearningIT7 жыл бұрын
I would never measure anything above 100KHz, so I could not even use its 1GHz bandwidth. I think these scopes are for companies who are developing fancy high frequency boards using DDR3 RAM and such.
@MrDubje7 жыл бұрын
Exactly. What I meant was: the info might come in handy for the day I even get near such an expensive device... Oh wait. I had the "delight" to operate an Infiniium with 17" touchscreen (or so) at work (forgot which model, we rent it!). Unusable for day to day measurements, but fun nonetheless.
@DonkeyLearningIT7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, renting is not a bad option. At the end of the day the bandwidth/features these high end scopes will be rarely used. For a hobbyist or for a repair shop it is way too much of a gear. Though, what I hate is that they try to make even more money on you by asking you to pay for serial decoding or for any decoding, which is a standard feature on a cheapo digital analyzer.

Mike, can you actually keep this scope, or you have to send them back? In Germany the rules are clear: you must send back the device, otherwise you would need to add its manufacturers recommended price to your income, and pay lots of taxes on it.
@jonhdoe13957 жыл бұрын
This is absolutely retarded. I assume they make you also pay income tax on birthday gifts?
@DonkeyLearningIT7 жыл бұрын
You must pay extra tax *if you receive a donation* I joke you not. Practically they are desperate to raise money, and they will do anything to get the cash out of your pocket. These socialists are worse than bankers.
@Nermash7 жыл бұрын
Only if you report it :)
@DonkeyLearningIT7 жыл бұрын
They will bend you over (and not just) backwards if you do not report all cents you made/got donated. Otherwise they will give you HUGE fines, or even time behind bars. Interestingly if you hurt somebody, you can easily get away with that, as long as it is not about money, or against the state.

that doesnt sound like good rotary encoders... sounds cheap as f.. 1:13 likely not as bad as Siglent that as I understand don't even have indents. are this Rohde & Schwarz lubricating social media influencers with this R&S gear, as I notice both you and this other fellow mjlorton ended up with this, but he never explains if it paid pr0m0tion on any of his videos - and something it obviously will be if a vendor lubricates you with an item in exchange for promotion/advertising/displaying. so kudos for keeping this transparent. and follow our rules here in YT and inform it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fojXgHSNjL5jZ5I as a shareholder in alphabet inc.. I really would prioritise that YT took actions on channels that don't as Techmoan also explain above.. as its gone berserk the last 5 years not least from CN companies trying to lubricate with goodies left and right, in exchange for pr0m0tion and its one slippery slope, where the lowest common value will become the norm and any aspect of transparency will be out with the bathwater..
