Not sure about you touching all the electronics with greasy fingers. Might affect 5-10 years usage, heat, light, cool down and human grease :-) Light bulbs are supposed to fail due to finger marks. Does it affect electronics and LEDs too? You even mention dust yourself at 5:51. So fingerprints and finger grease?

...thank you for this video, I've actually found the exact same buoy washed up on the beach (Kwazulu/Natal - South Africa) recently and was wondering what was inside. The only difference is that the model I found is an ISL and not an ELB like yours. Incidentally I have contacted the owners and they are based almost 1000km's from where I am.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS STICK THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IN THE OVEN AROUND 250F FOR LIKE 10 MINS AND YOU CAN POP THAT CLEAR COVER OFF AND THEN REHEAT AND MAYBE ADD A LITTLE MORE GLUE TO RESEAL HEADLIGHT. BEEM DOING IT FOR DECADES NOW.

I thought of the same. I have fixed my mums audi A6 2016 headlight that same way, it had a little hole on the bottom part of the adhesive and it had a tendency to collect condensation. Took it apart after oven which was fun, cleaned everything up and placed new adhesive.

no they are lasers.... You didnt watch the video before you reacted? There is a laser in there, but it only works on high beams. And no, it dosnt shoot the laser beam straight out of the front of the headlight, it reflects it through something else to then make that beam really intense.

On these high end BMW Laser Lights, they have Hi Beam Assist, and they can switch on and off selective diodes to stop blinding on coming motorist… (other car manufacturers do it too) hence there so much chips and lens inside. They have auto X Y axis to focus the beam and when you corner or go up or down a hill it focuses the light beam where they think the driver is focusing on. This is paired with the camera behind the rear view mirror
@Conservator.

And it works fantastically. With night vision the car can also point out (using selective beams) people and large animals that are moving towards where the care is going.

ten years, wow. people have been able to document almost all the registers of the raspberry pi camera, dunno exactly how, maybe fuzzing, but they've found crop and timing registers that let them do really silly things, like getting x000fps at 128x64 crop. imo omnivision is paranoid about documentation *because* the asics are so similar. they get to do binning and market segmentation pretty much entirely in 'software', and especially with phone sensors the spec bumps are based on reduced duty cycles. found out about that because sony is actually explicit about it in their documentation

7:48 You're supposed to remove the clips then put it in an oven @ 250 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes. Then you should be able to use a stiff putty knife to pry around the light so you can replace the lens.

Looks extremely complicated for not much more of an advantage over HID or LED. I mean yes the cut off is beautifully crisp and the light slightly brighter but it's not enough of an advantage for such a complicated piece of engineering. Also, unlike LED and HID retrofit that projector bowl is absolutely massive. That's not gonna fit very many headlights as a retrofit.

In my honest opinion, using laser diodes instead of normal ones in cars is mostly done due to marketing purposes, and not real usability. LDs are more expensive, much more sensitive and more delicate (power-wise) than LEDs, while having similar efficiency. And in the end, you still shine laser onto a phosphor which will then emit visible/usable light that's dispersed similarly to what normal LED would do. As for the power output per area - I recently tested LED H1 bulbs from Ali, that have fan from the back and only 2 large SMD LEDs. One of those touched the mat it was on and burned a hole through it lol. Pair of those 2000 lumen (each) H1s only cost me 3.5$, so it's almost for free compared to LD assembly.
@Chickenbreadlp

From what I've heared they do makes sense in projectors as a lightsource, as Lasers can produce much more pure red green and blue light compared to standard LEDs (tho often they cheap out and only use a laser for the blue component and normal LEDs for red and green, just to claim that they use a laser light source <.<) But yeah, for a headlight in a car? Total marketing BS. You don't need good light accuracy in a car, just a bright lightsource lol
@MichalHalczuk
@MichalHalczuk Ай бұрын
@@Chickenbreadlp You can get >90 color rendering index on semi-decent leds. Even shit ones have it above 60, so they're pretty good. Since car leds are slightly more complicated, and thus more costly, it would be very rare to cheap out on the most essential part - the diode. The H1 I bought as a retrofit are seemingly very nice, almost daylight-like white, and on that low budget! Even stress tested them - other than having very high spot temp, they run very cool and only at around 20W each (H1 is 100W rated). Once the laser hits the phosphor, it becomes basically a marketing gimmick I'd say.
@Chickenbreadlp
@Chickenbreadlp Ай бұрын
@@MichalHalczuk I was never arguing about CRI for headlights. For a *projector* used in say a Cinema, you actually don't want a good CRI, just very pure red green and blue light, and that's where a laser lightsource can be better then an LED as you don't rely on a phosphor for these pure color wavelengths, but then you need 3 of them, one for each wavelength...

So how exactly is the +/- 20V interacting with the capacitive touch screen? I've tried to build something like this controlled by an Arduino but driving a pad on the screen to ground doesn't seem to work properly (constant "touch"). I've been hypothesizing that maybe creating a field between two points might be more reliable. What does the voltage switching do?

The side device that looked like an electron gun could be a kind of ion pump, especially that there is some sputtering seen. This pump works by sputtering the cathode material onto the walls of the pump. This sputtered material acts as a getter, reacting with the unwanted gases. There would be a few kV DC applied between the filament and the disk stacks. It can at the same time be used as a vacuum gauge. But I don't think it it just a vacuum gauge, as it wouldn't make much sense in a sealed tube - you either don't rebuild it and you use it as long as it lasts, or if you actually break the seal, you do it to replace the electron gun and other consummables. As opposed to just re-evacuating it sooner to increase the electron gun life (which is the only reason I can think of that one might worry about the pressure in the tube that still seems to be working correctly). And hard to justify such large and expensive protrusion permanently attached to the tube, with its own many points of failure and requiring oil-absorbing beads, as just being a vacuum gauge. And the disks themselves can contain an ordinary getter as well, that reacts when heated.
