RoKanGo to Kodaikanal - Part 2 - Altaf's, Dolphins Nose & Paneer Soda

So this is part 2 of a 4 part Vlog of our journey and experience in Kodaikanal.
In this video we hit Altaf's Cafe for some killer food, have an underwhelming experience at Dolphins Nose and try some Paneer Soda?!

In Malayalam we call rose extra as "panineer" . Neer means water. Paneer is just another spelling. Meaning is same in Tamil also.

Panneeeru in Telugu. We can see it being sprinkled over guests to our weddings in Telugu states. Idk if we're doing this anymore. The wedding I attended about 15 years ago had it. Maybe that was the end of it. Idk. Edit: Idk the current scenario because I'm not attending any weddings; my whole life has shifted from real-world to online, it's been about 5 years like this and I hate it and I can't seem to help fix this.

Paneer means rose-flavored water. It also refers to one of the rose varieties called “panner/paneer”. I think that's how the name came about. So the rose-flavored soda is popularly known as paneer soda in Tamil. Did you visit Poombarai and Mannavanur?

Not sure how u guys do it! I mean when I see that a video is almost 15 mins long, I tend to avoid watching it. But it was u guys (I follow u on Insta as well, so I know u are good!), so I decided to watch (the 1st part). And I was hooked right from the word go! And u did it with this one again....I just did not know how 15mins flew by! So...kudos on that - keeping the audience hooked for that long a time - a Herculean task in these times!! Hi guys..big fan. Just fyi, "panneer" (With double N) is a type of rose. What you had was panneer soda. It is the favourite drink of most of us(people born before 1995) here in TN. In very small shops, it traditionally comes in a glass bottle with a "goli"(marble) that acts as a cork for the bottle. It is not the paneer(with one N) made from milk.

Dolphin’s nose is no where near what it used be even 12 to 15 years back. No wonder people felt the trek is not worth it. I have been to Kodai multiple times..now seeing your vlog makes me sad as there are so many shops all over the place and the crowd😮. There was time when after 6 pm it was hard buy anything, but God it used to be so beautiful and felt heavenly. I hope you visited croakers walk. BTW paneer in TN means rose water. It’s primarily used in wedding or functions and is sprinkled on guests at the entrance as they are welcomed. It smells good and feels nice. Its sad you went all the way to Madurai and didn’t visit the Meenakshi Amman temple, forget the Taj , it’s beautiful and an engineering marvel. Next time, if you go please do and don’t forget to try Jigarthanda …it’s a vey famous drink in Madurai.

Hi @rohit 😅 panner soda does not necessarily mean that mixture of the drink should contain paneer in it. It is one of the drink where the rose essence is mixed with the drink. In tamil we paneer means rose just for your FYI. Wherever you go within TN state you will find this drink very easily as it is demandable.

Lovely vlog! Also, it is not a scam, paneer rose is a type of climber rose variety, and as mentioned above + below by all other folks in the comment section, it is one of THE best OG refreshing drinks, especially one that can be had during summers! Don't know about the brand you guys had, but do try the local ones that are sold in bottles with goli that needs to be popped before consuming! P.S - Roohafza is totally different (though it is also made of rose!) can never be compared to paneer soda! :)
