The cognac note is an essential oil (EO) made from what is called the lees, a yeast rich residue at the bottom of oak aged cognac barrels. It may also be the reason why early batches were recalled due a Schiff base forming from reactions between the lees EO and the aldehydes used in it. Also, could be the reason why the parfum is darker and the parfum cologne (newer formulation to avoid the error) is lighter. I have the parfum cologne as well, it is a strong aldehydic floral to me with just the right touches of tobacco and vanilla to make it semi-oriental. I get a touch of something leathery, in line with Isobutyl quinoline, but it could be something peppery, not sure to be honest. I think it's a good perfume. The parfum is definitely a little richer and denser. But I prefer the parfum cologne, I think he did a better job and it's much more reasonably priced.

Yes that wine leaf on the bottom of the oak barrel that the cognac sits in I meant to talk about 🤦‍♂️ You always get to play clean up and correct and elaborate things for the audience 😂 I like the parfum cologne too tbh... if it I was paying retail that is a no brainer 👏

Cranking it up a gear now, didn't think it was possible. Excellent side by side, you know what we look for. Just as Jura said about not wanting to come across as an A hole I do feel the same at times and hold back a bit on the comments. Putting that aside....there's an interesting Almond note in Castelbajac by Castelbajac released 2001. I bought it for my Wife ( then Fiancee) and she often had people remark on her 'different' perfume. It starts off with Orange Blossom and Almond and settles to a powdery almond scent. The reviews on Fragrantica are all over the place, there's one on parfumo that is similar to my experience. To tell the truth apart from being a new release at the time and spread over all the press in London....I bought it for the bottle !😳 It came with 2 small metal chains attached to the top to engage and disengage the atomiser...does look the business, well it did in 2001 but after seeing your Roja and Bortnikoff bottles...not really! There you go useless info of the day!😆

Great Comparison! Used to own a bottle of the parfum cologne but sold it because it's made by Roja Bird. I liked the perfume though. Would like to know who made this. I feel like the presentation matters a lot. I'm sure many people would get the parfum cologne version over the parfum any day of the week if they both came in the bottle the parfum comes in.

@@christoph6743 why are people so cynical? They are always on fragrantica saying a lot of negative stuff and i don't get it. Apex just came out and people are already taking a dump on it. Ok the bottle looks like AXE body spray. I think it looks cool. It's roja AXE idc i haven't smelled it. I know people hype him and he can charge a lot more than most houses usually do, but it is a luxury brand so idk. I understand it's sometimes outrageous if you don't love something and spend all that money.. but come on.

Great take. I have the parfum cologne and regular parfum versions of Creation-E, Danger, and the rest of them but haven't done careful side by side comparison. I treat the colgone versions as the more versatile, less formal, daytime-ish, dumb-reach version of the Parfums.

100 % agree. To me danger and scandal are nothing fragrances, elysium is only ok and their performance is shocking especially for the money your paying out but not only for that, it's shockingly poor performance. Enigma however I love and its performance is way better and acceptable to me. Now my choice is the pour homme or perfum and at this moment I'm having a couple drinks so God help me and I won't be able to help myself but I can already see me going for the parfum. 😢

After i just recived my samples this blew my mjnd as all the reviewers are crazy wrong. They both smelt like night and day different to me... creation e is mild and a close scent that smells like an oudy creamy womans parfume with not much standing out, well blended but kinda subtle... enigma cologn was bouncing off my skin like a power house, pure masculine and can grab you across a large room. Enigma cologn is like an aniseed cola with a alcoholic tobacoco smell. Creation e is definitely nothing alike and smells like amlond cream oud with cognac, the creamy almond replacing the fizzy aniseed, making it basicly for women

I know you posted this a year ago, but this is a very helpful video. I wonder if you think it's a unisex fragrance or for men only. I only got to sniff the opening at a counter and remember vividly the cherry pepsi smell you were mentioning, but I didn't stay for the dry down so not sure if it dries down in a more masculine way. Thanks. I'm a woman btw.

Its totally unisex IMHO... it actually dries down pretty sweet with lots of vanilla... I actually think the opening is more masculin than the dry-down 🙂 However I do think the tobacco & Cognac make it lean masculin... but anyone can wear this & smell amazing! Hi there Ramsey. I've found a bottle in EDP concentration of Enigma. The seller said he bought it few years back. What you know about the edp? The color of the juice it's almost like parfume, amber and dark. Might be a maturation process. Would you go for edp of parfum? Regards

Cant find it & when i do it seems really marked up.... although I have the EDP concentration of a vintage paper label version of scandal pour homme and really like it 👍 Probably my favorite take on pour monsieur .. tiffany for men... ysl pour homme... really like the way Roja did scandal edp although that genre is not my favorite as you know 😄

Yes. Any paper label is the way to go ... But the prices are crazy. Think I just saw the EDP on fragrance ex if I'm not mistaken. But I'm sceptical it's actually the EDP. I've not smelled Scandal but I recently got Reckless which I'm really enjoying. ✌️

Tried both the parfum & cologne version, and yes exactly what you said the parfum is heavier on the amber, vanilla , and benzoin, i would say richer, but not by a lot to justify paying double the cost with less juice, with parfum version money i'll just saved up a lil bit more and go for amber aoud or diaghilev The cologne is fresh and lively while still captures the enigma dna well and I prefer this version more since i do love more of that floral on the cologne. considering the price per mL as well... it's a winner 🎉
