People forget Irabu was the best pitcher on the Yankee staff in 1998 and 1999 for months at a time. He wound up burning out at the end of July both seasons and being a non-factor in the post-season. But up until the end of July he was often outpitching most of the staff.

You’re absolutely right. He won pitcher of the month in May of 98 and July of 99 and in both of those months a Yankee threw a perfect game.

Teams get their international bonus pool money on Wednesday January 15. He could decide before then, but I do not think he will sign a contract before then. It would be good if he signed by Thursday so it can be talked about on Thursday and Friday before the NFL playoffs on Saturday.

I really liked Arraez despite the defense inefficiency, but if we are not going to get him how about Ha-Seong Kim? I think he would still help out this team because he plays good d and can at least get on base to be effective.

I get trying to unload some of Stro's money but he could prove to be a solid every 6 day starter this year. And Cole needs to go on 6 day. Just saying, again. As far as infield, let's go into spring with the current roster.

I look forward to the free agency after the 2026 season: the Yankees will finally be done paying Aaron Hicks (to be fair, he'll only get $1 million in 2026 as part of a buyout but still), they'll be done paying DJ LeMahieu and they'll be done with Marcus Stroman so it will give them some flexibility, both in the payroll and on the field. Plus, Giancarlo Stanton will be down to 1 year left on his contract so they will still have to pay him but by then, they might be willing to eat 1 year of that contract to maximize roster flexibility.
