It will also be interesting to see if Ohtani is willing to do some Co-endorsement deals with Sasaki. If he does two or three new endorsement deals where they split the money evenly that could be 10 to 15 mill per year in Sasaki’s wallet. No other team can offer that because they wouldn’t have Ohtani available to do that. The question is will Ohtani be willing to do it.

@johnnyboyjohns29302 күн бұрын
Pay attention. Roki Sasaki will have a big share of endorsements as well. He is considered to potentially be the greatest pitcher to come out of Japan. That in itself, will garner many endorsements from the US as well as Japan (I,e, shoe deals, magazines, fashion brands, sports brands, drinks, etc.). I’m sure he and his agent have already started receiving offers and meetings for potential deals. On top of that, if he goes to the Dodgers, Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Sasaki will probably do collabs in advertising, fashion, sports drinks, etc. Why wouldn’t they, there’s money to be made!! He will make more money off of his endorsements than his first couple years in MLB. Big facts. Fanatics of other teams wants you to believe that he’ll make more elsewhere. Stop it. It’s LA.

And, why would Sasaki want to be like the #3 japanese star on a team (em, dodgers) when you can be the #1 japanese star on the team (giants!). Although it seems unlikely, I have a feeling after posey lost on burnes, he is going to be much more motivated to get sasaki. Most, if not all, of these Japanese players have handshake agreements with LAD at least a year in advance. The Japanese race only prefers Los Angeles. Ohtani was a bit different bc he had to wait for the DH in the NL, and the Angels served as the perfect waiting room.

Signing bonus is not the issue. He's going to make a decent amount after his arbitration years. And he has the largest and most powerful advertisement/marketing agency in Japan backing him since high school years. His MLB agent put out additional info on the signing process. It seems that Sasaki is mostly interested in organizational strength and pitcher development. Which also means that realistically only a few teams can deliver what he values.
@matthew012342 күн бұрын
Sasaki is the player I want us to sign the most. He has the most upside of any pitcher available and he will also cost much less than someone like Jack Flaherty. I totally agree wirh Dan though. I do think ge will sign with a west coast team like Ichiro did and more importantly a California team like Ohtani and Yamamoto did. That's good for the Giants. The bad part is I agree with Dan that both the Dodgers and Padres are more likely. He already know the Dodgers have the biggest Japanese presence of any team in baseball. He already knows the Dodgers probably give him the most likely chance to win a WS in all of baseball. More importantly he already knows that with Ohtani and Yamamoto the Dodgers are going to go with a 6-man rotation and Sasaki is probably far more comfortable pitching in a 6-man rotation since that's how he pitched his entire career in Japan. Also with guys like Snell, Yamamoto, Ohtani, etc. Sasaki wouldn't have the be "the guy" in the Dodgers rotation. He would be their #4 starter at best. They might even make him the #5;or #6 starter. So Sasaki would have less pressure to immediately perform in LA. He will have room to grow. Then the Padres probably have an advantage over the Giants too because at the moment they seem to have a better roster which in theory mught give Sasaki a better chance to win. They also have Darvish who has been there for years and as a former Japanese player could help mentor Sasaki in his transition to MLB. The Giants do have one ace up their sleeve though (no pun intended). Not only are the Giants in California but IMO they have the best pitcher's park in all of baseball. With the exception of maybe wins and losses all of Sasaki's stats would likely be better pitching in Oracle than they would in any other stadium. Sasaki is still very young and since he technically won't become a free agent for years the amount of money he can make off his first MLB contract is much smaller than someone like Yamamoto who was a free agent. That means Sasaki is going to want his stats to be the best they can possibly be so he can get his real payday when he becomes a true free agent. I think Oracle probably provides him that opportunity more than any other stadium in MLB. So I think the Giants are still in the top 3 when it comes to which team Sasaki will pick. If his main goal is to have the best stats possible when he becomes a free agent he will pick the Giants so he can pitch at Oracle.

@@Shailam718- the Giants are a NOT cheap. They just aren’t a premier destination for FAs. Before giving Willy Adames a 7yr/$182M contract, they were turned down in previous seasons by other notable players. They offered Aaron Judge a 9yr/$360M contract, making the Yankees match the offer. They offered JD Martinez a $14M contract but were turned down. Martinez miscalculated his market and eventually signed for $2M LESS with the Mets as the Giants pivoted and signed Jorge Soler for $36M. They’re trying, they just can’t get all the players they want for decent money.
