can I loop anything connected to the MX1? or do I need an external hardware looper? What would you recommend? also VS looping in ableton?

Consider the following setup: TR-8 and TB-3 with No DAW. You connect a midi cable between them as well as audio TRS cables to pass the sound. The TR-8 and TB-3 play together fine, remember no DAW. What happens if you introduce a third Aira product say the System-8. How do you sync this to the TR-8 and TB-3 without needing a sync box or MX-1?

You can midi all 3 Aira instruments but you cant hear the audio from the System-8 unless its audio outs go to another set of speakers or you include a DAW or mixer into the setup so the MX-1 is the obvious choice.

If there's one thing that I hate it's that the usb slots are dedicated to Aira & Roland gear only. Why the hell would they limit it like that? Besides encouraging people to invest in Roland products only.

to be honest, Roland today is ridiculously greedy. Just take a look at their Cloud service.

One reason is that not many instruments send both audio and midi together through USB. For example the Moog Sub 37 has a USB port but it doesnt send audio I presume all the Dave Smiths, Moogs, and Korgs are in the same boat. So if you have a few of these (with none of the Aira range) the last mixer you'll be thinking of is this MX-1. But if you've already got a collection of Aira and Roland gear you will be seriously considering it. When you're thinking about creating a studio you wouldn't say geez I better buy the MX-1 first and the next day say oh no now I've got to buy all the Roland/Aira products.

does anyone know whether I can use hardware synths (audio in on channels 1-5), Aira gear (on USB channel 7) and the unused Aira-USB channels for tracks in my DAW (VSTs, samples, loops) at the same time. obviousely you can control your DAW in external mode and play hardware in surface mode, but it is possible to control DAW tracks when also playing with hardware connected?

The back panels are labeled pretty clearly and may be able to help you most the way. All PC audio comes out of one channel, but it is a programmable board for controlling some basic things like mute and sliders. I found it to be a bit buggy though and much more prefer to not use it to control a DAW but instead act as my soundboard and something to send a clock out of.
